This place is huge! I feel like there were 20+ salon chairs! I have super thick curly hair layered and long down to my waist and typically do my own blowouts or go to Dominican hair salons. But sometimes I just don't have time to spend 4-5 hours there (if you know you know) so I had been on the hunt for a standard salon where I could get a blowout in a pinch. Shag86 did not disappoint! I had been referred there for color specifically but decided to check them out for a blowout. I booked an appointment online just because I didn't want to wait til the morning to call and risk there being no openings. They have late weekday hours which is great for us working girls. I saw Jamie for a blow out brush set on a Thursday at 6pm. I was washed, blown out and in my car within an hour. A miracle for my Dominican hair. And my hair was silky smooth AND survived over night. Another Dominican hair miracle with just a blowout and no roller set (again. IYKYK). The staff were super friendly and welcoming and the salon was spotless, bright, and airy. Hit or miss. Staff is always extremely nice and welcoming. However, the quality of the service provided has significantly decreased the past couple times I've been here. When I asked for a specific length bang cut, my stylist (I will exclude their name for privacy reasons) proceeded to cut my hair a significant amount more. She then proceeded to tell me that this style was so I didn't have to come as frequently. I appreciate the gesture, but I know this was just a coverup and she knew she messed up my trim. Following this, I proceeded to wear headbands to cover some of hair until it grew out. I'm honestly disappointed, I really liked Shag, but I'm not sure if I'd want to risk another bad cut. 50/50 read more

His tutorial was exceptional & Janelle was a very quick study, correctly answering his questions as he grilled her. I want to start off by saying I have received bad hair cuts before but never felt the need to complain or write a bad review but I'm just so disappointed at how my hair came out. I went to shag 86 to get my ends cut but came out with a botched disaster. The stylist I received was graziella. My haircut was extremely choppy and uneven as if a child cut my hair. Towards the end of the haircut she used thinning scissors to try to make it even, making my hair cut even worse, especially since I have curly hair. She even went to the extent of saying how awful and horrible my hair is which made me uncomfortable. I'm just very upset that I now have to wear my hair in a bun or French braids until this hair cut grows out. Besides that the salon seemed nice and the owner was super friendly but unfortunately I will not be returning to shag 86. read more
