Their website says: "Our on-site crematory allows you to be sure your loved one is never out of our care. It matters!" When I picked up my mother's remains and death certificates, I was incredibly disappointed to read that cremation was actually performed by Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home in Yankton! No one even called to let us know! THIS MATTERS!

I am going through the same thing but money disappeared from the so called life insurance(I know nothing about) and benefiary was Willoughby/Ellsworth (owned by same owners Robert Ellsworth, Terry Lee and Alex Nurnberg) Funeral Home. Has this been going on all these years? Your post is from 2014. My personal advice. Do not use Willoughby Funeral Home. South Dakota Laws 34-25-25: The funeral director should have death certificate filed within 5 days of death. Federal law: restricts how trust funds are invested . Overcharging, marking up prices and unnecessary services. The funeral home must give you a itemized general pricelist so ask for it before the funeral. The FTC Funeral Rule: The funeral home must give you a (GPL) statement listing every good and service you selected, the price of each and total cost immediately after making the arrangements. To all those who lost a loved one I am truly sorry but don't let a funeral home (Any funeral home) take advantage of you for your loss of a loved one.

We did not get more, but he got more $$. Death is money to Terry, he sizes up the family's financial ability and charges accordingly, at least in our case he did. Make sure you get everything in writing and record all conversations with Terry. He charged A LOT more for his services then he stated and outright lied about it. A couple weeks go by and I called to tell him where the remains need to be sent and how many death certificates I need. Another week goes by and I send an email in which he replied he will ask the doctor to sign off so he can order the death certificates. I don't hear anything more so I emailed again a few days later. I received no response. I called twice and was always told he was not available and never received a call back. It's been a month since his passing and I had yet to receive the death certificates so I chose to pay the money and order them on my own. I received them within 2 days. I was frustrated with the lack of integrity and follow through in a sensitive time when I need specific documents since I'm executor of the will/trust.

His clothing he was wearing was never offered back to us and never returned. A green burial is supposed to be less cost than a conventional burial from what I have read, similar to a cremation since there is no embalming, no casket, etc. We did not have a service as my Brother would not have wanted a big thing made out of his passing, just family and friends at his grave site. I was still charged 9,770.00 and I had to write the check out in the parking lot of the cemetery office as Ellsworth had paid all the costs and wanted their money back immediately before they even laid him to rest. Very poor in service in my opinion. Taking advantage of a family at it's most vulnerable time.
