There is systemic injustice at Harvard Extension School. Their policies as stated on their website…read moreare not upheld. I had a professor who graded anything beneath a 90% as a 0%. So, in other words, if you don't get an A you fail your assignments. I withdrew, brought this to the attention of the Dean, and asked for financial credit so I could take another course instead. She did not respond but simply forwarded my concern to a registrar who refused to do anything about it. The registrar said, wrongly, that the professor was acting in accord with HES policy. The grading system on the website does not in point of fact map onto the grading system of all the professors. So be forewarned that you may end up with a professor who will give you an F if you get less than an A. Don't waste your money at HES and don't expect the administration to act justly. I've matriculated a different program. HES just lost the 30K they would have made if they would have simply rendered a just decision.

There are no Financial Aid options coming from the university itself, and 2 out of 3 student loan companies that their office recommends actually don't really accept Extension School students. The third one needs a lot of extra paperwork that the school isn't willing to help with. In order to enroll you need to pay in full and you don't get a letter of enrollment until after the drop out period, when it's too late. You can't get a loan without paying and you can't get enrolled without a loan. So it's a chicken and egg situation that has no end. They say the university helps cover for you until the loan is approved, but in reality, you have to pay in full first and they will reimburse you after the loan is paid. Which defies the entire point of asking for financial assistance. There is a very short window in which to apply for the loan after registration before being dropped out for non-payment. Paperwork takes more than a month, which is not nearly enough to get everything done. I've spent hours and hours with both the lending officers and the financial aid officers, and in the end, nothing got solved. Nothing. I am unable to join the courses. I am unable to get a loan. I feel like my potential is wasting away... Harvard has failed me.

The teachers are incredible. They each embody the type of kindness we need more of in this world. They model patience, respect, grace, gratitude, and kindness at all times. They teach these qualities with elegant purpose, integrated into a curriculum that beautifully weaves in discussions of diversity, respect for differences, and peaceful resolution of conflict. On top of their wonderful work to promote strong character development and peace, Montessori Escuela runs a top-notch educational program. The students positively thrive. They excel academically (we are constantly in absolute wonder at the students' work), while most importantly developing a true love for learning. Our family only speaks English at home, but to our delight, our daughter is seamlessly learning Spanish. When you enter Montessori Escuela, you step into a beautiful educational preserve. The children are happily involved in their various "works," often helping one another. The sunlight shines through the windows. There is a reverence for concentration and true accomplishment. The children are smiling, truly genuinely happy, absolutely thriving in their special discoveries. Our daughter comes home happy, singing tunes from "Circle Time," and enthusiastically telling us stories from her day: what object was in the "Mystery Bag," what foods they prepared in the kitchen, what project she is working on (and can't wait to get back to!). The range of projects from all subject areas is mind-blowing. We love the influence of the Montessori method that we see trickle into our home: she understands the value of organization, responsibility for her own actions, and quiet focus. She is truly excited to initiate things like sounding out words or seeing how high she can count, with a twinkle in her eye. This happens at home without prompting - seemingly from an internal curiosity, although I know it has been significantly cultivated by the loving educational environment of Montessori Escuela. I cannot say enough good things. I feel incredibly grateful to this preschool. This program is a hidden jewel!

On the very first day, her teacher, Qiaoling, snapped at me, saying, "I sent you 2 text messages and an email yesterday! You didn't respond!" I replied, "What number did you text? I haven't received anything, and I don't check email on Sundays." It was clear she didn't speak to other parents in this manner, and after observing I was the only Black parent in the class it became apparent what was going on. Despite a conversation with the director after my daughter reported being yelled at by Qaioling (after we exchanged contentious emails), things seemed to improve for a day or two, but I should have expected more issues. Qiaoling refused to update me about out of the ordinary classroom changes that affected how I needed to dress my daughter for activities like water play or nature walks, which caused my daughter distress because she was unable to participate and felt I was dropping the ball. Additionally, she didn't inform me about an assembly performance on the last day. During the drive after pick up, my daughter was in tears after feeling isolated because the other children had their parents present at the assembly and she didn't. It's heartbreaking to think of an adult intentionally causing a child to feel neglected/alone and that their parent isn't doing their job. This was flat out cruel. She's an all around spiteful/wicked woman. Lesson learned.

The one caveat I'd say is you kinda have to know what you want: This isn't a hospital or slick business operation where you make an appointment with a receptionist, get measurements by a technician, have them sent off to the doctor, and have a grad student come back and go over the results with you then follow the doctor's treatment plan. I decided to work with them after reading how neurofeedback could, in Sebern Fisher's words, "calm the fear-driven brain". I feel respected as a peer, never labeled or talked down to. Larry, whom I work with most frequently, is easy-going and works creatively with an impressive array of neurofeedback equipment. Larry and Paul have worked in this field for decades, and use not only classic neurofeedback but also LENS (Low energy neurofeedback system), Neurofield, HeartMath, Z-score training, ILS and more. I personally recommend starting with a qEEG so you can follow your progress with an amazingly detailed brain map as a baseline comparison. You won't regret it!

Most helpful was having Brett review my work at different points during the process, and offer advice on how to proceed. Thank you, Brett, for an enjoyable reintroduction to drawing. I look forward to taking another class. The CCAE could do better in communicating what to expect and in keeping the listing up to date. The description says it's 6 hours but it's listed as running from 10am-2:30pm. The supply list was incorrect so I purchased much more than I needed and didn't have items that I did need. They should also note that you only have about 30 minutes for lunch and Cambridge eateries can be very crowded on a Sunday. I would have brought a lunch.
