Great place! If you ever find yourself free between the days of M-F, during the hours of 9-3,…read moredefinitely volunteer! If you don't have time to volunteer, they are a 501(c)(3) non profit org, and accept donations. I stopped by today with my mom seeing if they needed any help (labor or donations) after the storm. The executive director greeted us, gave us a tour of the place and informed us of all they do there. We helped serve a nice, hot meal to the guests. Taken from their website: "At the center they will find a welcoming atmosphere where they can relax and hang out. The facility offers shelter from inclement weather, clean restrooms, hot showers, a laundry, lunch and other necessities. Beyond the temporary basic needs, there are also mental health providers, support groups, and life coaches to help the men and women get out of homelessness." "It's exclusively committed to assist the homeless with today's basic needs while preparing them for a better tomorrow". I'm hoping to be more involved with 1960 Hope Center while my office is in the process of recovering from Harvey. They're always looking for volunteers, you can sign up to volunteer on their website or just stop by and get a feel for the place. Great place for people needing a hand with starting a new chapter in their lives. If you have an eating establishment and ever have an excess amount of food or are feeling generous, this is a great place to donate food to those who might not be able to afford otherwise. If you have a special skill set, they can definitely use you somehow. Some of the volunteers they have are aestheticians, barbers, teachers, psychologists, nurses, etc. Let them know and they can add you to the schedule so you can have a specified day to help those in need with basic needs.
