It's a kind of half way house between traditional and new wave joints. All the dishes I've ever had have been superb, whether meat or veggie. There's a bar upstairs where you can wait for tables if it's busy, but during the week, due to the size if the restaurant, it can seem empty. Friday and Saturday nights are normally better though. There were a few points which let it down, the service was quite friendly and attentive at first but towards the end the waiters all seemed rushed off their feet and took ages bringing the bill and then finally actually coming back for the payment. The food hadn't taken too long to arrive, but when it did it was all a bit on the cold side. Finally, the dish I had was supposed to be fairly hot but was really mild, and although hotness of a dish is always subjective this did seem like a bit of an extreme. They also have a hygiene rating of 3 out of 5 according to the Scores on the Doors website, which isn't that great. Overall I'd say it's worth going to if you really fancy an Indian but not worth making a special effort for.

Salmon steaks were cooked to perfection, the Biryani was filled with flavour and the Gun Powder potatoes made a lovely addition to our plate. Service was great! The proprietor of my B&B (Chimneys, also an excellent find) had recommended this restaurant. The waitstaff was just attentive enough, without being intrusive. I knew I wanted samosas; they arrived piping hot and were delicious. I'd asked for a recommendation for one of the six or so vegetarian choices and so went with the neramish (niramish). While not spiced as heavily as some Indian dishes I've ordered, it was flavorful and tasty. Super large serving, and I completely overate it as well as the biryani rice. I very much enjoyed my dining experience at Bombay Butler!
