And they fully know this. But because they're disrespectful to their customers, they made me wait two weeks, and then sent me a $250 invoice, asking me if I'm willing to pay. No. I'm not willing to pay you $250 for five minutes of your time. You're insulting me. And now I'm stuck with a remote that doesn't work, and no one to help me. That's called screwing your customer. I have a two story wall with 25 ft ceilings that get direct sunlight every morning. While it's an absolutely gorgeous view, it gets really hot and even unbearable for any guests crashing downstairs. Did some research and knew I needed solar roller shades. We had motorized blackout shades installed 3 years ago when we moved in to a new unit. They are beautiful shades but have frequent issues with the programming. They often get stuck and will not open or close completely. We called Shades by Design to come do a repair/reprogramming as they were the company who installed them. Getting anyone on the phone to even schedule the service appointment took multiple phone calls and several empty promises of being called back, but finally we had the appointment set. They contacted us the day before to ask if they could come later, we said okay despite it not being convenient for us but we needed it done. We were called in the morning, told they were about 20 minutes away and coming to us next. Over an hour goes by. We then get another call that they had an issue and they are now 20 minutes away. Over another hour goes by without any update, we call the company and they said it will be at least another hour and a half before they can make it. What poor communication and major disrespect of our time. We work night shifts so we can't just stay up all day waiting around for a service that may not even come. We cancelled the service. Nice products but poor customer service in our experience. We intend to schedule service with another company. read more

I don't know how this company has such a high rating. They were amazing in the beginning, during the sales process. Itai was very helpful and attentive, but as soon as the order was place he completely disappeared. I used SBD to install curtains and new shades in my living room as well as to install a motor on my bedroom blackout curtains. They were very expensive, which I didn't mind because I thought I would be receiving the best service. But I didn't. When they took the blackouts they replaced them with flimsy paper which made sleeping hard. In the past companies have replaced the curtains with a blackout material. I really had to stay on them to return the hemmed curtains and It took over a month. When they were finally returned they told me to setup the motor application myself which was not easy but I got It to work for a few weeks and then It stopped. So that sucks... I needed them to hem my living room curtains because they stretched with a few months time. They used this opportunity to charge me more. Today they still are too short and not the right length and overlap in an ugly way. I ended up just using my old guy to come fix all of their work for half the price. My finally opinion on shades by design - not impressed and would not recommend. read more

I got a very good vibe from Gil and started to refer him to clients asking if I knew anybody who did window treatments. I have found this company to have great communication skills. They pick up the phone when I call or always return my call in a very timely manner. They confirm appointments and follow up afterwards. They show up on time which is very important to me. I have gone to properties and had to sit there for an hour waiting for some people. I understand this is Miami, traffic is horrible and when you deal with high-end luxury condos, delays are normal. However, Shades by Design has the common courtesy to call where many other companies do not. Their prices are fair and reasonable and they stand behind their products with a more than fair warranty. Instead I got Raymond, a condescending sales guy who didn't ask what I needed, made assumptions, tried to contradict what I said and talked over me as if he knew better. Mansplaining at its finest plus inappropriate personal questions and suggestive bedroom comments. And when told there were other companies bidding for the job, his reaction was to tell us that his pricing is very high and many can't afford it. Had he asked, he'd have known that I'm most interested in quality of service and product, not price. I'm glad I wasn't alone with this know-it-all creep. Y had my curtains window installed 3 weeks ago, not happy with them, after they were installed the second day one of them fall off, they came and fixed it, but now after checking them out well, there is a gap an inch more or less on each side of the curtain and the wall, the represent sent me a text telling me that is normal, but I check and see and it is not the the way he say, one of the sides of the curtain is not straight you can the cut is uneven, I waited long time to do this proyect and now not happy with it I don't recommend this company at all read more

These guys did an amazing job on my friends penthouse in MIA. Every room had beautiful electronically controlled shades. With 3 different shade modes-it kept the place really cool during the day, while still being able to enjoy the views of the beach. This all started when my husband and I deciding that we would like to have some automated shades installed in our living room and master bedroom. We have direct view of the ocean and the morning light can be intense. We called several companies to come out, take a look at what we wanted and give us quotes. One of the companies that came to our condo was "Shades by Design Inc" located in Miami. After exchanging some initial email with basic specifications, Gil came out on a Sunday to meet with us. As soon as Gil came in the house, we immediately felt more comfortable with him than with the other people we had spoken to. He was on time, professional and helpful making several suggestions that we would not have thought of. Within 45 minutes, everyone knew exactly what needed to happen, we shook hands and waited for their quote. Several days later (the time frame that we agreed) we received the quote from Gil. Just so we are clear, they are not cheap, but I am very particular about quality and was convinced that they were the only ones who had the capability to do exactly what we wanted. We agreed on a price and paid the standard half up front. Gil and one other employee installed the shades. They were on time and we were left with zero clean up after they finished. The end result looks amazing. What can I say? I am blown away. We love our shades and the experience could not have been better. A guilty confession about SHADES BY DESIGN I confess we had a fabulous experience with Gil Breef and Shades by Design! Why is it a confession? Because I felt guilty I was thoroughly enjoying our new space but hadn't yet written this review, especially considering that I called SBD based on the online comments not a personal recommendation. Our experience was really the best! So here it goes, at last: *Their first on-site visit (punctual, professional, prepared, personable, patient and knowledgeable) was so far above expectations that we decided right then and there to retain them and call no one else. *From the outset, it was evident that they were far more than top-notch purveyors and installers of a broad range of fine and elegant products, which indeed they turned out to be. *Gil Breef also has an extraordinary design sense and keen problem solving skills, no doubt honed-in through years of experience. *Among the issues they had to address: relatively low ceilings; floor to ceiling glass doors one entire side of the three bedroom condo; direct sunlight/sunrise in the bedroom; an exuberant ( messy) chef in the small kitchen asking for "wipeability" and zero aroma absorbency ; city and bay views throughout requiring different light treatment options depending on time of day; a design that would work harmoniously with a British Colonial style, blending both tropical and traditional influences. Gil introduced us to a great Hunter-Douglas product called Luminette that interacts magically with light: translucent/view blocking but plenty of light, translucent with full view, and fully- open, of course. This ingenious hybrid of sheers and verticals elongated the floor-to-ceiling "feel" in an elegant yet unobtrusive way. The master bedroom's Luminettes were complemented by a motorized light-blocking shade that stays pitch black even on the sunniest morning... The kitchen issue was solved with special panels, and the custom office got a perfectly- sized wood blind to hide office equipment and supplies (Gil's idea). To the above add the flawless restoration and upholstery of two antique, heirloom chairs and two banquettes; the selection of upholstery and other accent fabrics for additional pieces. Oh yes, one last but very important item, the project was completed on schedule and on-budget, except for the things I kept adding (and don't regret for a minute).
