We contracted Shade Builders for our patio cover project. We are so happy with the entire process. Robert Bambusch came to give us an estimate, which included the requested electrical work. He also was with us to present the paperwork to the HOA. After approval, he quickly ordered the materials. Once they were delivered, the work began quickly. We got our lattice, patio cover installed a few days ago. We are VERY pleased with it. Rob and Rachelle were easy to work with and although we had a few hiccups along the way they both handled them professionally and gave me great customer service. The installers were amazing. They had everything completed in less than 4 hours. They talked to me prior to the install making sure it would be done how I wanted it. My seller hired Shade Builders/Terrific Termite to do termite repairs on a home I purchased. I tried to contact them for months to complete the repairs with no response. They left two dangerous and unstable posts holding my deck up and a bunch of materials around my property. I tried to get them to refund either me or my seller and they offered a partial refund and tried to say the $60 worth of materials according to Home Depot were worth $600. No idea if they ever worked it out with my seller. The report they did found $1700 in repairs were needed and I've had three other inspections done totaling in about $7000 worth of repairs actually needed. read more

They worked from 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM. They were so pleasant and the workmanship was very impressive. Their clean up at end of job was also very well done. I would highly recommend this company. I can't say enough about this company and their staff...Robert first came to our home to give us a quote and it was the most affordable yet quality quote we got after trying over 5 different patio companies. We felt comfortable with Robert and his staff! Rochelle is great and keeps you updated on invoices, when the supply comes in and when the build will be scheduled and you can call her anytime with any questions. On the day of the build we had Tony and one other worker come and they were amazing! For a build to be going on in your backyard which usually is a huge mess (I have kids and a busy schedule) I was presently surprised that it wasn't a huge mess like I anticipated, I think I'm trying to say, the build was so neat and organized and clean! Tony asked me questions before doing any detail work to make sure I was aware of any details and how I wanted things to look which was so refreshing to be asked before so we didn't end up with something we didn't like later. They installed the beautiful patio cover and electrical and put in all the fans and a new light fixture and new outlets. We have gotten so many compliments I would give them a 10 review if I could-for all Covid craziness also, this build was the smoothest part of our patio renovation and I'm so glad because it's reassuring because it's such a big piece in the yard. I scheduled a time for Rob to come take measurements to get an estimate for a lattice patio cover. He was supposed to come out Monday but ended up coming on Tuesday. I had several meetings that day so didn't have much time to chat with him but he came and measured. I told him (as well as the person I schedule the appointment with) that I needed the estimate as soon as possible as I had to submit it with other paperwork for HOA approval. Rob told me he have it to me Tuesday night. No estimate Tuesday. I left 2 messages on Wednesday with no response. I left a message and text on Thursday explaining the urgency (I don't live their full time and was leaving on Thursday; wanted to get the paperwork in to HOA for review so I could get the project started next time I was in town.) Finally got a call late morning on Thursday. There was no apology for not calling me sooner or for not providing the estimate when they told me I'd receive it. The lady who called said Rob was too busy to get to the estimate over the past couple days, hopefully he'll be able to get to it today. I once again explained the urgency to her. Again, received no remorse for lack of communication or any sense that my business was important to them. Here we are on Friday afternoon and I still have yet to receive an estimate or a phone call from Rob. It's very unfortunate because the positive reviews on here seem great. Rob explained that he's done a lot of work and installed a lot of patio covers at our complex (familiar with our HOA rules, etc.) Not sure why there was a break down in communication. The materials took awhile to be received by the company, but it was the sign of the times as all construction companies were having trouble getting their materials, due to the restrictions of Covid just being lifted and things starting to open up. The installers were great Jose Sr. and Jose Jr. did an excellent job they were very professional, fast, and cleaned everything up afterwards. They involved us and always asked questions of the placement of the structure and where we wanted the lights. The quality of the patio is excellent lifetime warranty and the service was excellent. I agree with M B. I took the chance of allowing Shade Builders to build my alumawood overhang because they claimed to be able to build better for a lower price. I had another reputable company give me a higher bid so I went with the lower bid. Big mistake. I only saw the owner (Rob) when it was time to pick up a check and he wouldn't return my calls. He agreed to build something that he never got engineered and ended up costing me more money in the long run. It took them two months to complete my patio and it is still not the design that we agreed to. I have an open claim with the CSLB because they didn't build what we asked and their work is sub standard. Rob helped us get the most out of our design ideas. He measured, studied, and tweaked our ideas and came up with a plan and color samples that he gave us to present to the HOA for approval. It sailed through and he came out and demolished and removed the old structure, repaired what was needed, and built the beautiful new pergola. This builder does not even deserve 1 star. My mother received three estimates for demolishing and rebuilding the Lanai in her yard. The proposals were from a handshake to detailed. Because I am in construction estimating she ask I review them. Shade Builders was the handshake. I asked my mother to get a written proposal, and what she received was a email with a dollar amount. The other contractors provided a list of materials with lump sum cost, labor with lump sum cost, and length of time it would take to build the structure. I called the number my mother provided for Shade Builders and a harassed woman answered the phone saying she was running late to an appointment with her physician but would send out the proposal the next day. After four days I called mom and asked for the office number, which was disconnected. I called the woman back and was told she was having problems with the scanner and had left a message for me. I don't know about you but I have never not received a voice-mail. The next day I received four emails with pre-approved structural drawings, not the information I needed or asked for. In response I asked three questions and this is what I received in reply: "You are making this such a big deal... really, we don't want your job I don't have time to resond to all your stupid questions. Go type a proposal or something." WOW! Really?! FYI: I cut and paste her response. read more

He is typical of so many "one job: contractors in the desert. He advertises constantly, but what he needs to do is to satisfy the customers he has, who in turn will recommend him to others. He cannot be trusted and is only out to make a fast buck, and his crews are anything but professional. Do yourself a favor and accept a higher bid from a reputable contractor, someone with a good reputation, who actually is concerned about customer service and treats his customers right. If you fall for his low price and actually use him, make sure he pulls a permit with the city you live in and have them inspect his work BEFORE you pay him. read more

When he responds he does good work. Communicating is a real problem. He offers a "LIFE TIME WARRANTEE' BUT that only works if you can talk to him. Yes Rob's business manners are a bit unorthodox but my pergola came out beautiful and the only issue I had, being slightly off center was dealt with immediately and to my satisfaction. I hired Rob to do a 8' x 13' patio cover. Watching his crew do the installation was like watching the keystone cops. What do think of a crew that uses a bottle of paint for a spacer to space the lattice and wind up dropping it on a brand new co create patio. I paid Rob with a check and have yet to receive an receipt. His crew left all their excess material and after 30 days Rob has not come back to clean up his mess. I have left numerious calls for Rob but he will not return calls. A few days ago I noticed an end cap was coming off one on the aluminum beams. I figured what do I have to lose let me try to call Rob and see if he is honorable enough to stand behind his work. Well it must of been my lucky day, I called Rob's number and low and behold someone answered the phone! But it was not Rob a lady answered the phone and listen to my issues and told me someone would be calling me back to set up a time to make the necessary repairs and take away the excess materials that Rob and his crew left. No one has ever called me back (not surprised) the bottom line is no receipt for the job and he doesn't warranty his work nor clean up his job site. I will be contacting the contractors association and be making a formal complaint against Shade Buliders. read more
