So when I came across the FOMU here in Antwerp on Yelp, I was intrigued to give the place a try. You can tell from the outside of the building, its not really that large of a museum, its four stories but there were only two stories open during my visit. The cost of entrance was around 8 Euros or so, they take all cards and cash. Seeing how only two floors were open, my time here wasn't long. The most interesting part of the museum was being able to look at all the old film and camera equipment that they had in their collection. If you're not a big fan of photography, I'd skip this one.

You have space to enjoy admiring all those crazy machines created by this artist! I always wonder how many of them actually "worked"... apparently the submarine can go 7 meters deep! Enjoy! A helpful booklet was provided when we purchased our admission tickets. Bathrooms were downstairs along with free ockers where everyone was required to store their bags or backpacks. Housed inside the former Red Star Line building, the museum covered a wide range of topics about the history of the Red Star, immigration westward, people profiles, fleet of ships, conditions by class of service and more. We also climbed all the way to the top (a lot of steps since the elevator was OOS) of the attached tower for a view of the surroundings. The tower was supposed to look like a ship's funnel. It was one of the least crowded museums during our visit. Worth seeing.

The history, stories, description and depiction of the travel accommodations, interviews with some of the passengers, the trials to cross Europe just to get to Antwerp, the struggles... awe inspiring. I left here with a profound appreciation for the commitment of these people to find a better life. They do an amazing job over 3-4 floors bringing this epic individual journey to life. A visit here will stay with you for a very long time.
