I'm really glad I signed up my daughter for these soccer lessons. Each week, she engages in a 40-min session, where she gets to interact with others kids, and learn developmental skills appropriate for her age group. They learn things like stop, go, wait your turn, and following direction. They learn how to work in a group, and also to work independently, or with partners. They learn to run, kick the ball, but do other things like kick the cones, run around the cones, etc. The activities from week to week change, nothing's really ever the same. She's not learning soccer moves or how to play soccer, per se, but rather just developmental things that are fun and important for kids and their learning. The classes are setup by age level. I will say that my daughter is one of the younger ones in the class, and I do find it harder for her to follow direction compared to the other older kids. There are no makeup classes which is the only bummer, except when it gets rained out. Oh well. I love the little soccer shirt they provide on the first day of class with their name on it, and you can also upgrade to get soccer shorts and socks (so cute) for an extra $20. The locations are spread out across the city, but I love that the one I go to is within 5-6 min drive of me, and the parking at Golden Gate Park is very plentiful at Mother's Meadow each week I go! The coaches, Brian and Jesse, are wonderful, so passionate. They're so amazing with all of the kids, they're very patient, kind, and also help with redirection. They're very enthusiastic, and have lots of energy. What else could you want from a soccer coach?! They also can remember your child's name from week to week, they have great memory! I would highly recommend SF Tots to your child to get them out of the house and learn new things with this fun and engaging soccer class. read more

Coach Brian is a phenomenal teacher and has that natural talent for interacting with kids. Being a father himself, it is obvious that he knows how to engage them and teach them in a developmentally appropriate way. Classes are designed perfectly for each age group and keeps kids participatory throughout the entire time. You can tell teachers care because they learn kids names straight off the bat and go out of their way to get on their level and talk to them even if they're hesitant in the beginning. We've been part of the SF Tots program for 4+ years, and we absolutely love it! My son started when he was 3 (he's almost 8), and now my 4-year old daughter has been in it for almost a year. The SF Tots owners and coaches have been excellent! They really focus on kids' development and making sure they have fun. My son is really energetic, and this was a good outlet for him to get his energy out. Although he has since "graduated" from SF Tots, he still has such positive memories about his time here. The best part is he developed his love of soccer because of this program - thanks to Coach Brian! My daughter, on the other hand, takes a lot more time to warm up. She's shy and timid at first, but once she feels comfortable, she is out there running and having fun. Coach Josie, Coach Anna, and Coach Brian have all been so wonderful in making her feel totally at ease. They don't ever force kids to do anything they don't want, but they do try to get them to participate at their own pace. Kids aren't "one size, fit all", and the coaches at SF Tots recognize that. They are super patient and kind. We love this program, and we plan to keep our daughter here for as long as she wants to play! read more

I can't recommend this program enough. We discovered SF Tots through our neighborhood soccer shop and started our son when he was 18 months old. He is almost 2.5 years old now and has learned so much- patience through waiting his turn, body coordination, listening to instructions, cleaning up after a himself, counting, and even singing songs! When I first started taking my LO to SF Tots in my area I almost dropped out of the class. My son was crying hysterically and we couldn't participate and we ended up going home early. I decided to give it another try in a different location. We chose a class in Potrero Hill which was a long drive from outer Richmond. You meet at a park which is a huge plus for us and it's by a nice Whole Foods. My LO was crying again but coach Wayne took the time to make him feel more comfortable the 1st day and afterwards coach Sheldon & coach Amy were really kind and helped him feel less anxious. The coaches really know how to handle the toddlers that happen to be having a bad day and help with the transition. If you have a shy toddler or a toddler that needs a little more TLC I can recommend the Jackson Playground location. read more

The instruction is so much more than just building soccer skills. My 3yr old loves going to HoopsterTots and is fond of Coach Alan. Their program is filled with fun activities that teach fundamental basketball moves in a group setting. The coaches are friendly, energetic, and patient with the 2.5-3yr olds, which is impressive. I've been a soccer coach for close to 20 years and I brought my 3 year old to SF Tots in Noe. I was surprised how little soccer they played. The coaches were very sweet and animated but the exercises were unnecessarily complicated and required a long narrative with complicated instructions that were way over the heads of the little ones. I think it is important for kids to learn about teamwork and taking turns but waiting for 8 kids to go through an exercise before it's your turn is demoralizing and kids get distracted. The exercises should involve all the kids together. When there are exercises that require waiting, they should wait for a short time. Also, the coaches did not keep and eye on who was involved, if a kid misses part of the exercise due to toddler stuff (crying and sadness...) then wait in line for their turn and the exercise is ended right before their turn. This happened on multiple occasions. I think the coaches should be more aware of the kids and welcoming to them. I was very disappointed especially because I took the time out of work to be there to foster a love of the game with my kid. We will not be back. read more

My 4 y/o attended SocTots for several weeks. The class sizes are well-balanced to the number of coaches. They work to keep the children engaged using lots of fun-play for skill building. Class sizes can be small and they may combine classes, so depending on your child, you may want to ask for a class adjustment. Coach Liz seems very open to accommodating the child's needs. If you go to the Embarcadero, avoid the Embarcadero as much as possible! Saturday traffic is terrible. Taking Sansome/Battery makes the drive there super quick! Overall, highly recommend! read more

My son is now on his 5th session with SF tots and we love it! The coaches we have had are all amazing. You can tell they love what they do and are so good with kids with different personalities. My son is now in the 3.5-4 year old session which is a non parent participation class and I was nervous about how they would handle my wild child who sometimes drifts off to do his own thing and his coaches are so good with getting him back to the group without having us intervene. We look forward to him continuing with SF tots and for our newest little one to be apart of it as well once he's a little older. read more

My son joined the SoccerTots Koala II program just after he turned 3 yrs earlier this summer. We just completed our first 10-weeks of classes and registered for another 10 weeks. What I love about this program: - The class is designed perfectly for the age group. It teaches soccer skills via fun, engaging games and exercises that my son enjoys. If you're looking for your really young toddler to understand technical soccer terms and get into formal drills, you won't find that in these classes; however, they learn basic dribbling via "penguin kisses" and other skills while having a great time and getting good exercise - The coaches were upbeat and positive. They interacted great with the toddlers - were just a little firm at times (to attempt to get kids to follow instruction) but appropriately so. They were patient, playful and connected nicely with the toddlers - The coach ratio to students was great. I'm not sure if this is always the case, but in our class it seemed that there was about 1:3 - Parents were allowed to participate (and expected to step-in and assist should a child need the attention), but at this age group of 3 - 3.5 yrs we were also able to be more hands off to allow the kids to learn how to be instructed by other adults which I think is great preparation at this age for preschool and kindergarten I mentioned directly to the SoccerTots program that I was disappointed a couple times when the class ended ~5 minutes shorter than scheduled. I like them to run the full time so I feel I'm getting the best value for the $ paid, and so that my 3 yr old runs / exercises 5 minutes more in class (increasing the chance he'll take an afternoon nap ;-) read more

I've been meaning to write this for a long time---SF soccer tots is amazing in so many ways and looking at the reviews, I'm not the only one that thinks so! My 5 year old son has done two 10 week sessions and every week I'm impressed with Coach Brian. If my son is having trouble getting the field, he comes over makes a few jokes to get my son laughing and takes him by the hand. I had a special request of Brian unique to my son and each week he has done so much to help. I am also blow away with how he talks to the kids, he truly gets how kids think. When a kid misbehaves, he addresses it right away without scolding and if needed, has the kids talk it out. I've seen him work with kids with special needs too and he is just as stellar. Another reason I like Soccer tots is because instead of just scrimmaging, the kids are learning footwork and body mechanics through play and games. Each week is different to keep kids excited and having fun. At the end of practice, there is usually about 10-15 minutes of 1 on 1 or 2 on 2 scrimmaging. I could go on and on but soccer tots and Coach Brian deserves each of the 5 stars. read more

Soccer tots is a wonderful, age-appropriate program for kids of all ages. 3 years and 2 kids later we are still attending almost every season. The activities are decently versitile, primarily game-based, and require parent participation for the younger kids. (In the older groups, you can just sit back and drink your coffee on a foggy Noe Valley morning.) I wish they would rotate the exercises a bit more, but my son doesn't seem to care that he is playing "farmer n the fox" for the umpteenth time. My 2yo lives for the soccer day and can't wait for a new season to start. We do miss coach Dan, he was a true star!!! Overall, a great neighborhood activity at a reasonable price. read more

Okay, my kiddos have now experienced both Soccer Tots and the other guys -- S. Kids. I can now say, hands down, soccer tots his the BEST option for little ones to have some fun with a soccer ball!!! They just have a great vibe. ALL the coaches are friendly and cheerful -- just what a kid (and parent) needs! HIGHLY recommended!! My 4 year old son absolutely LOVED Soccer Tots, and not just because he got to wear a sweet uniform with shin guards! The coaches were excellent and very experienced at corralling young kids. My 22 month old son LOVES soccer tots! We've had a great experience in our first session. I'm amazed that kids this little can like it so much. There's a good variety of kicking the ball, playing with hoola-hoops and noodles, running fun "obstacle courses" with tunnels, singing songs and so forth. It's a jam-packed 45 minutes and he loves it! The coaches (Liz and Cathy were ours) are wonderful and really engage with the kids, which is very nice. read more
