Barbara, the owner, delighted us with blackberry muffins with the berries from her garden. Iowa-grown sweet hickory bacon and an egg and cheese tart. We share a love of gardens and Barbara did not disappoint. Her tour of her lush trees and plants was a highlight of the trip as was the intricate woodwork throughout the mansion.

I was able to check in late with no issues. Barbara was kind enough to offer me directions to her B&B. Upon my arrival, the check-in went smoothly. The room I stayed in has a window A/C unit, & was cool. Barbara has a collection of menus from various restaurants around town. Several restaurants are within walking distance from the mansion. The Fireside Room is very spacious. The bed was comfortable. During my entire stay, it was very quiet, which I liked. Barbara arranged breakfast for me the following morning. Juice, water, coffee, thick cut & crispy bacon, an apple streusel muffin, & eggs with tomatoes & herbs. Everything was delicious! I enjoyed my stay at the bed & breakfast. The mansion has a lot of charm, & the garden is absolutely beautiful. Barbara is a gracious host, & I hope to stay at the mansion again!

I called the front desk and they offered a fan to help cool the room. The accent chair by the bed had a round stain in the middle of the cushion about 5 inches in diameter. My room was very clean and quiet, except for the hum of the wall-mounted air conditioner. Even though the motel was almost full, I could not hear my neighbors at all. Room decor is modern and uncluttered, and there with the bonus of a small refrigerator. The bed was firm and comfortable, lots of hot water, Wifi is free with acceptable speed. Nice staff too. The room came with a hot breakfast, available after 6am. There were eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, cereal and cinnamon buns...but they were out of yogurt and fruit. Other amenities...there is a smallish indoor pool, with a separate hot tub. This was another nice bonus after a long day on the road. If you are traveling on I-80, this 20-minute detour was well worth the effort. US Highway 6 is almost as fast as the interstate, and an opportunity to get off the slab is really nice when you are crossing the country. Plus you get to see a slice of what makes Iowa lovely...farms, small towns and good folks.

The room here was very modern with plenty of amenities, including a fridge and microwave. The king size bed was super comfortable and included a down comforter underneath the top blanket! Very cozy after a long day on the road. The wifi signal (no extra charge) was excellent as well. The woman at the front desk was so polite and helpful. She even came out to give me detailed information on where to park and how to get to my room. The check in and out process was quick and easy. Breakfast in the morning was plentiful with plenty to choose from, even after 9, when it was served from 6-10. Make your own waffles, breakfast, juice, fruit and much more. The only minor thing to note is that the indoor pool was chilly, but I know it costs a lot to heat a pool, so I can't complain too much. I absolutely recommend this Super 8 for a pleasant and affordable stay.

She was very welcoming, put us in a room she thought we would like, and made sure that our dogs had plenty of water and treats. I really appreciated this touch from a fellow pet-lover. No complaints about her. The room, however, wasn't the cleanest. There were flies (not necessarily anyone's fault, but annoying), and the bathroom had mold. I'm not super picky, especially in these small, mid-west towns, but I don't like finding mold... Her husband was not very friendly. When we turned the keys in the next morning, he came to the door in his pajamas and didn't ask if we wanted breakfast, which was supposed to be included with our stay. He just said thanks and closed the door again. Overall, fine for a 1-night stay.
