Rockingham Renovations

Rockingham Renovations

We called hoping for help before the holidays, and John was at our house the very next day to look at the space. From the start, we trusted him immediately--he was kind, thoughtful, and asked all the right questions. We received a clear, detailed quote the following day, and the work began within the week. The project was completed in just 3.5 days, well ahead of our proposed deadline. John even drove all the way to Massachusetts to pick up our materials to ensure everything arrived on time. When our shower doors were mistakenly delivered to a neighboring house where another construction project was underway, John walked up the street, spoke with multiple people, and personally carried the doors back to our home in the snow and cold. He and his brother took great care of our house, laying down protective coverings so no mud was tracked inside. They handled every detail seamlessly--figuring out water shutoffs, garage access, power, and everything else they needed with minimal interruption to us. Our children were home from college, and John and Dave were incredibly accommodating, moving their trucks in and out of the driveway at all hours to work around our family's schedule. They even managed to open a Tostitos salsa jar we couldn't get open! Their workmanship is outstanding. They presented us with four pricing options, clearly explained each one, and helped us choose what truly felt like the highest-quality solution. We absolutely love our new shower. Having a renovation project while working from home, with adult children coming and going and pets underfoot, can be stressful--but with John and Dave, it felt like having trusted family members on site contributing to a calm, happy home. Their attention to detail is remarkable. John even returned an off-white item to ensure every element matched perfectly and the final result was beautiful. I truly can't overstate how fantastic they are. Rockingham Renovations has my highest recommendation, and we can't wait to have them back for our next project.

Ats Equipment

Ats Equipment

I rented an excavator from ATS to pull stumps and bury them in my back field. When I first…read morecontacted ATS I explained to them that time was a factor as we only had a few weeks of good digging weather left before the ground would freeze. We discussed rates and I expressed concern that I would finish before the month rental and end up paying for time I wasn't using the machine. The whole time I was getting the feeling that I was annoying the gentlemen I was discussing this with by asking questions. Eventually I was assured that you only pay for the time you us and decided to go forth with the rental. On my end, I got everything in order, post-haste. I delivered the insurance binder and was told that they were having a difficult time finding a machine. A week goes by... I have to follow up with ATS as they were not calling me, leaving me to wonder when and If the machine that I already put a $2500 deposit down on, was ever going to show up. I was forced to call back a few times looking for info before finding out that they were now having a hard time finding someone to deliver the equipment as they gave their CDL-A driver "time off" finally, almost a week later, they managed to deliver the machine but not until 5pm the day before thanksgiving. When I approached the driver to see if he needed a hand, he replied flatly, "No." and walked away. Then when I got into the excavator I noticed that there was no thumb on the machine. Something I had been told a few times, would be. This was frustrating (not to mention I was paying for it by the week). Then I noticed that the door was hanging on by (almost literally) a thread. which meant despite the cold I either couldn't close the door, or had to climb in and out of the front window (no easy task). It took ATS three days to come out and put the thumb on during which time one of the tracks fell off the machine completely! (luckily I was able to fix it myself) and a bucket pin broke in half! (luckily I was also able to fix it myself buy stealing a pin from the clean-up bucket) So far I was not impressed to say the least, but also being a veteran operator, I knew that machinery in much worse condition was still used on job sites today and so I took It all in stride. That is, until the final bill came. I ended up finishing my project in three weeks instead of a month ( or should I say that my project was cut short due to weather, which wouldn't have been a problem if ATS was able to find a driver and deliver the excavator a week earlier) ATS came and picked up the excavator a week ahead of schedule and had assured me that the machine didn't need to be cleaned before picking it up, which was a relief as everything was now frozen solid. But much to my dismay, the bill was for over $5000! How was this possible when the rental cost for the month was only $3800? As I looked over the bill I saw that I had paid more because I only kept the machine for 3 weeks instead of a month. there were also a lot of added hidden fees they never told me about. For example I was charged $200 for the pin that broke! They charged me a cleaning fee after I was told I didn't need to clean it. And despite the fuel meter saying full, ATS managed to cram another almost $100 dollars with of fuel into it by charging me $4 per gal! That's only a few examples. All in all I felt totally taken advantage of and will NEVER rent from ATS again.

Update: continuing to realize just how badly I got scammed. Basically I fell down the stairs and I…read morewanted them to be safer by increasing the depth (if you are looking at the stairs it's the front to back distance of each step). All he did was use larger treads with more overhang. The *effective* depth (surface area you have to work with when walking down the stairs) didn't actually change. What I wanted would mean dismantling the entire internal frame for the staircase. He should have been clear that without changing the internal structure it wouldn't accomplish what I want. I guarantee his response is going to be something like "you knew what the job was" etc and make this my fault. People outside the industry don't know what these projects entail that's why we rely on builders! That's why I trusted him! A business owner with integrity would say okay how can we make this right but this is the type of person who thinks everything is someone else's fault. In his mind because the way I confronted him was "rude" and the fact that I didn't see all the problems initially absolves him of any responsibility for the way he left my house. Please please please do not trust him. ________end of update The project was new stairs. We agreed to $4500. Okay, great. Later I offered to buy the materials ahead of time (to get a military discount at HD) then he didn't take that off the total price which I didn't realize until like 3 weeks later. I texted him and he said because I asked him to put a new piece of ceiling trim up (he took it down to look behind it and in the process it was like basically destroyed so yeah obviously). I said there's no way that cost over $600. He responded I never said it was. So I don't understand his reasoning. Half his texts don't even make sense. Anyway I moved on to my complaints about the quality of the end result. I told him I'm mad *now* because I didn't think the final product was that bad until later when I realized just how many problems he left for me to fix. The way he responded to my concerns with the quality of his work was so immature and unprofessional. Basically he tried to gaslight me into thinking his sloppy end result is somehow my fault. Example 1: The wood putty he used around the aforementioned trim is haphazardly caked on and around. It looks like he did it half asleep. He said what did I expect when I asked for new trim at 3pm. Ok? So being tired justifies an ugly end result? Ridiculous. Example 2: The wall paneling around the stairs got damaged in the course of the job. He thinks it's my fault for asking him to replace the white trim on the side of the stairs (I didn't). But that doesn't make sense because there was damage to the bottoms of the wall panels around ALL of the stairs. Either scratches, chunks missing, or wood stain on the walls. He said to just paint over the scratches and missing chunks. I understand that there's going to be damage when you are replacing a whole stairwell but it's expected you patch any damage you do to surrounding structures during the job. He disagrees. In fact when I said that he lashed out at me saying I should have said something at the time and I'm "rude as f*ck." Screenshots of the conversation are posted.
