My husband and I finally made it here in January this year for a weekend brunch, and then the…read moreweekend after that, and then the weekend after that, and then the weekend after that... It's entirely possible we came here 5 weekends in a row! So it's fair to say this is definitely going on the list of favourite brunch places. Consistently: the food is delicious, the coffee is good (they do BOWLS!), the staff are lovely and efficient, the place is big enough that you can usually easily get a table, and there is plenty of street parking around. And it's less than a 10 minute drive from our house. Bonus. They have a range of breakfast & lunch items on the weekend - sweet, savoury, and hearty smoothies or juices - and they are open til 2pm on Saturdays and Sundays, which I like because it means you can come in for a proper lunch instead of just a very late breakfast (sometimes it's just difficult to get out of the house before midday on a Sunday, you know?). They will also try to accommodate any specific dietary requirements, some are marked on the menu but if you can't see it then just ask and they'll work something out if they can. I came here with my mother on one occasion and she was happy, despite her ever-expanding range of food intolerances, so that's quite an achievement. Word of warning though - the Famish'd breakfast (basically the equivalent of a 'big breakfast' anywhere) is GIGANTIC. Order it only if you're prepared to be in a food coma for the rest of the afternoon.

Emily's Sweet Treat is in a little set of food shops on Sandgate Road and unless you knew about it you probably would drive right past. What a horror that would be. Filled with absolutely beautiful looking sweets and a small brunch type menu this is a great place for afternoon tea. (n.b they also do a high tea!) I chose a flat white for my afternoon fuel up, which was really good and strong, plus a red velvet cupcake. Guys. GUYS. This Red Velvet cupcake is something else, the cake was fluffy and the icing was buttery but still light and delicious. I think I'm in love! I also got 2 macarons to take home because they looked incredible (and there was a 10$ EFTPOS minimum). All in all I can see myself going back here so many times, someone is definitely going to have to restrain me. Everyone else can keep their crazy donuts as long as I can keep returning here!

Perfect amount of vanilla, which so many places get wrong. Prices are good, just need to work on serving sizes.

There's not much choice for food out at the DFO, except food court food, so I guess this place does ok for itself.

There is a good selection of wines and beers, but the prices can be a bit on the "wow I can't believe it costs that much for a Coopers here." So maybe if you want to get your drink on after work and you work out near the airport and you don't have to drive and you have the money, go for it.

Between us, we've had the breakfast brioche, poached eggs, omelette special (with feta and chorizo) and waffles. We've been happy with all our meals. Service is friendly and very interested in feedback, given their new-ness. I haven't tried their lunch menu yet and they're also now open until 8pm on Friday and Saturday. They do have beers on tap and a nice little drinks selection as well. Lokal + Co is on a side street from the main drag in West End but it is not far from the action and is definitely worth seeking out, even if you're just in need of a takeaway coffee and a sweet treat. The smoked salmon with avo and labna on house made bread is giving me heart palpitations just thinking about it. The bread was super fresh, filled with seeds and had a delicious crunchy crust. The smoked salmon was not shaved like you'll find in other places it's large chunks of salmon that I'm told is from a local supplier. The amount of avocado you get is insane and everything felt so wholesome. Coffee was also really good - not blow your sock off coffee but definitely above average. Vegetarian options available and the juices are fresh and yummy. I'm going to become a regular here as I've not had such a great breakfast in a long time. Get on it!

Inside I found a unique specialty store. The front half of the store was dedicated to fresh fruit and vegetables, hung up in baskets ready to be bought. Throughout the rest of the inside specialty chocolates and other unique delicacies lined the racks and shelving. Displayed at the front counter a range of fresh salads and sandwiches that I could tell were made in store. I ordered a coffee a while I was waiting the lady behind the counter asked me about my day which turned into a very comfortable conversation. When I was given my beverage, we thanked each other and I walked out the door, feeling I should have bought something else. But just like the conversation I just had there was no pressure just great friendly service. There should be more places like this.
