The individualized one-on-one therapy sessions at CPTC are tailored to each child's specific needs and what motivates him/her. Therapists make learning fun and break down difficult tasks so that children are able to reach their highest potential. This practice is family centered which means parents, siblings, extended family, and even caregivers learn how to work with their children to improve communication skills and motor planning. The research based speech, language, and occupational therapy techniques used by the therapists here have changed the lives of many hard working children. I have been amazed at what a family based center like this offers to the community. The children at CPTC have made far more progress in much less time than I have ever observed in a school based program. The high level of support, family education, and natural/play based therapy has helped babies, toddlers, children, and even teenagers who attend therapy at CPTC. Claire and Maureen are both seasoned experts in their fields. I am very impressed by both women and their willingness to share their knowledge with student interns and new clinicians. This center does not only teach children- they also encourage new professionals to become the best they possibly can. I think it's wonderful that they have contracted with Kaiser Permanente, allowing for even more children to access their wonderful OT and SLP therapy programs.

Many people were having trouble understanding him when he'd talk and he was starting to show some frustration. He would replace some sounds with other sounds, leave some sounds off, and couldn't make certain sounds too. Shamim started with a test to help assess where his deficiencies were and then she shared a plan with us on how to tackle each issue one by one. We saw her 1-2x a week for an hour and our son made massive and quick improvements. She also made it really fun for him. They would play games and she was great at getting him to open up. By the end he was regularly looking forward to visiting "his friend shamim." Eventually he got caught up to his level in speech so we transitioned out from the weekly sessions and yet he still asks when we will visit Shamim again. I couldn't recommend her more for any kid with speech issues. I know she works with many different types of children, has decades of experience and does a wonderful job. When she aged out of her last therapy at age 10, I found Sena at Development Is Child's Play in Burlingame. DICP works with children of all ages and all abilities. They have swings, climbing walls, zip lines, and all different kinds of equipment for taller, heavier kids (as well plenty of equipment for littler ones too). When we joined DICP, Sena did a thorough evaluation of my daughter and found that many of her initial baby reflexes were never integrated into system. Other therapists, especially our school-based OT, focus mostly on penmanship and do not address the fundamental building blocks that make it possible for children to write neatly and perform other fine motor skills. Working on my daughter's core strength, initial reflexes, sensory integration, and motor planning challenges, has finally allowed her to make progress with her writing and other school-based concerns. Sena has been instrumental in helping us with my daughter's toileting troubles both at night time and during the day. Sena is helping her to listen to her body better and response to what her body is telling her. Sena is the first therapist to really address my daughter's core needs and develop a specialized program tailored to my daughter. My daughter is making so much progress thanks to Sena. Sena always listens with her kind ears to my daughter's (and my) concerns, giving advice and offering support in many areas of our lives. She is thoughtful, knowledgeable, gentle, and kind.
