Confirming prior terrible reviews of staging. We hired them through Angi's revitalize program (through my agent) so I did not choose the team, we were matched. The staging was delayed by a week. Once the house was staged it was very obvious it did not meet the luxury listing we had: bedrooms had just a bed/nightstand only, the beds looked like boxes and had thin bedding, very sparsely furnished rooms, almost no decor and untouched kitchen area. Just very sad and lifeless design. We gave them a second attempt and although it was a bit better it still was not up to par compared to our listing price. We respectfully asked to destage. The destaging part took forever. While the team offered a third attempt at staging (which was declined), mysteriously the truck become unavailable to destage until the next week, then the end of the week, then Friday, then Friday morning and finally a 30min heads up when we are 60in away. After destaging we got a $7,500 bill and had the task of removing lots of oversized 2inch nails from our walls. I unfortunately cannot recommend working with Setting the Space. Interesting that the owner removed my review but left other 1 star reviews. Purchased a couch from here and was told it would be delivered in a month since it was being ordered instead of picked from the warehouse. Guess what, couch would never come. Did we know that though? Nope! Spent almost a YEAR trying to communicate with them on when we would be getting the couch and each time of course having to call them because they never called when they said they would for their next updated delivery date. Ended up having to take this company to court which Blair the owner tried to tell the judge that he had the couch the whole time. We won the case at least and took our money elsewhere, and we will never ever step foot in one of these shop again. I've also told any person who needs furniture our story so they don't get duped either. read more

If I could give a zero star, I would. Staged a multimillion beautiful waterfront home with furniture I would expect to find at a garage sale. Blair charged $2500 for deliver, install and pickup even when I called immediately when I saw the staging and told him to come get it and that it would not be acceptable. Blair was verbally abusive and as I have seen here the word "unhinged" which was my experience as well. I called Queens Garden and they came and staged the house beautifully. Queens Garden was lovely to work with, they helped me out of a huge pinch and saved the day. NEVER EVER use Setting the Space. Unprofessional, unethical and NOT worth any money!!! read more

This review is specifically for The Boutique inside Setting the Space on Court Street in Plymouth. I was very disappointed in the attitude of the woman who works at The Boutique. I have gone about three times now and every time she does not interact or even attempt to offer any type of hospitality. She said hello because I said hello first. I even tried on clothing and she did not even acknowledge me while I was there or offer any help. This is not the spirit of Plymouth!!! I loved wandering around this store. There are some lovely items here for decorating and furnishing a home. The downside is that the price points on many things were too high. I'm an avid home decorating shopper and I generally have a good sense about pricing and markups in this area. I don't mind paying higher prices when the provenance and quality of items warrant those prices, however that was generally not the case here. However, I still loved spending time browsing around. It's a very big store with so much to see and take in. You will find furniture, unique throw pillows, glassware, lamps, candles and generally interesting pieces with which to decorate a home. I am partial to things that are a bit unusual and sometimes even quirky and there was plenty of that here. As we visited in mid-October there were things that would be especially fun to put out to add some autumn color and flair as well as a bit of Halloween fun without being too ridiculous. For example, I loved the skull throw pillow but at $100.00 it just wasn't worth it to me. The interesting store facade and windows drew us in and kept us there for the better part of a half hour or so. Sometimes the best purpose a store like this can serve is to give one decorating ideas and Setting The Space did deliver on this count. It's also a great place to find a house warming gift. Having said that, many of the things for sale here, with a little ingenuity, can be found elsewhere including on line for less money. It's definitely worth a visit though. I may still go back for those skull-etched Pilsner glasses. I'd love them for using on our boat next summer. read more

Forget Jordan's, DEFINITELY forget Ikea, shop local at Setting the Space! This store and the warehouse near the airport are awesome. No wait on delivery of large pieces of furniture from the warehouse and the BEST customer service. We've shopped there a handful of times and don't feel like "just customers" we feel like clients. We trust them to hear what we need/want, give good advice and indulge our random life stories! We'll probably keep shopping at Setting the Space until/if we ever move from the area! read more

I get it. Depending on what you are looking at, it's a bit overpriced here. But they specifically made the effort to look for the most appealing items for home staging. That has to count for something, right? [: I took a little walk around and noticed some pretty interesting things. They had a few handcrafted items that's probably hard to find online. I ended up purchasing a notebook and a candle which only cost less than $25. Seems reasonable to me. The transaction was handled nicely. And the layout of the store: Fabulous! read more

Terrible, terrible customer service and I'm convinced the proprietor is a bit unhinged. They lied about delivery timeframes and refused to allow me to cancel an order that was promised in 8-10 weeks which has now become 8-10 months. Proprietor became completely unglued when I wanted to cancel and get a refund and then became belligerent and accused me of being belligerent then also accused me of threatening him! We both called the cops! They lie, they lie, they lie - so don't believe anything you're told. I've gotten my credit card company involved and will be filing a complaint with the BBB and will take them to small claims court if necessary. This is exactly what the cop advised me to do yet when I told the proprietor I was going to take other courses of action, like calling my credit card, he accused me of threatening him! I bought some pieces in the store that are great. It is a lovely store. Do not use their design service. They are unresponsive, unorganized, and just the worst customer service. I had four people come to my home for a design consult. Both owners and 2 employees, all at different appointments. None of them provided me with a design plan. I continued to accept the unreturned phone calls and false promises, until they came out pretending they had a design plan and it was nothing that we had gone over in any of the four times they can out to meet and measure. Setting the Space has gorgeous items, is a fun store to browse and daydream of styles you can bring to your home. I've been to all the stores but Mashpee and every one is a delight. My rating is due to my experience purchasing in the store. I saw a gorgeous pug pillow in the Plymouth shop (clearly the buyer loves dogs- appeasing all of us dog nuts). It was $140- I didn't buy it, but I always thought about it. When I saw the store in Somerville and went in to browse. A sales person asked to help me and I told her about the pug pillow. She was wonderful and called other stores, finally finding it on their inventory site. I ordered it, paid for it in full, paid $25 in delivery and she said it would arrive in 6-8 weeks. That was February 27th. Today is June 8th. My pillow never arrived. I walked into the store in Plymouth in May 24th. I explained my situation. They looked up my order and saw the order in the system. They said they needed to call me after they speak to their vendor. Today is a June 8th- no one has called me. On June 6th- I called the Somerville store where I purchased it. I explained the situation. They saw my order and said they would need to call me back. Today is June 8th- no one has called me back. Setting the Space has gorgeous items, but they are expensive. I paid $140 for a pillow with a picture of a pug on it (my choice- I loved it!) but if Setting the Space is going to charge $140 for a pillow- they need to ensure their customers get what they paid for and not require me to repeatedly call and inquire why merchandise ordered 4 months ago- is MIA and I'm out $165. UPDATE: Coincidence or not- shortly after I posted this, I received a call from STS- which I very much appreciated. They offered to refund me and still ship the pillow when it comes in. Hi , My husband and I recently moved to Plymouth and wanted a fresh new style in our new home . We walked into the Main Street store and was greeted by Will , who couldn't of been nicer . He helped me think outside the box and get out out of my comfort zone . Everything he suggested was spot on . Yes a little pricey, but he was willing to work with us to get the merchandise we wanted . He came a couple of times to our home to hang some artwork out of the kindness of his heart . Worst experience ever. Extremely unprofessional! I came to Boston over a month ago pregnant and was promised a complete house set up in a week and until today we have missing items in the house! we have to call and nag every single week. Everyday it's a new excuse! As soon as they took their money they stopped answering our calls and messages! never ever using this company again and definitely never recommending them to anyone! I had a design consultant come out. Thought I was getting a trained professional but obviously was not. She completely missed the mark. My goal was to make my space light, airy and beachy with a pop of color. Instead I got heavy Southwest cabin with lots of heavy leather In one room and a Victorian couch in the other????? Update #3: I guess Blair decided to keep my items that he took from my home. He is probably using them to stage lots of homes! I have texts, emails and photos documenting that they are mine and he took them but is it worth a police report and pursuing this in court? I'm not sure yet. Update #2: It's now August 26. STS removed items that we own from our condo on July 23 and still has not returned them to us. Instead, he is using them to stage other homes. He doesn't dispute that they are items that we left in the home to improve his staging (see description below), but he said, "We know some things went out on a staging so we really aren't not looking, it's just difficult as we explained so we have been doing research to wee what stagings the went on." Blair is using our framed art, house decor etc. to stage homes so his business can make money. He also told me I should be kind and take down this post. I'm just stating facts, which he doesn't dispute. If they reflect poorly on Blair, that's his doing, not mine. Update #1: It's now August 14 and we're still waiting for OUR items that Blair's company took from OUR property to be returned. He said he needed pictures so we sent them. No response. This is INSANE. Do not do business with this place. Read the reviews! People would not take the time to go onto Yelp and make up horrendous, dishonest experiences. These reviews all fit with my own experience. Here's the story: STS took items that belong to ME and will not return them. They staged our condo with scratched, dirty, ugly broken items. As other reviewers have said, the items, and especially the pictures, look like they were donated to Good Will. We had to purchase some pillows, pictures, small decorations etc so the place would look a little better. When it came time for them to take their items back at the end of the contract, Blair gave no notice and expected to have access immediately. We accommodated him but we couldn't be there. We asked directly in an email if they could tell which items are ours so they wouldn't take them. (see the email) When we went to the condo after they'd left, all of our belongings were gone. We've now spoken with Blair three times trying to get OUR belongings back and he has 1) blamed us for leaving them 2) demanded we provide photos and 3) still won't return them. They are ours. We did not give Blair permission to remove our items from our property. read more

Oh where to begin.... what a disaster of a business You walk pass the store, see all these furniture beautifully displayed and want to make it yours? Don't. We were told they have the table we wanted in their warehouse so expect it in a couple days. Three days past, no calls. We called, they said in fact they need to order and will take couple of weeks. Three weeks past, called back again, said it arrived broken so they had to re-order. Five weeks past, said they have no idea I'll just need to wait. Mind you they never called us unless we called them, no updates, nothing. We ended up cancel the order and found the exact same one online for $200 less with free 2-day shipping. My tip: if you want anything in that store, get the name/model and buy it online, guarantee it will be cheaper and less hassle. There's no point of trying to support a local store when the owner/employee couldn't care less about their customers. read more

This is an interesting place but the markup on everything is really absurd. It's a great place to go in and poke around, see some interesting stuff, really lovely designs, etc., but make sure you double-check the price tags. I've seen some of their items online or bought them myself and the prices at the store were not even close. You can definitely find some unique items here so definitely check it out -- it may inspire some gift and decorating ideas for online shopping! Also, make sure you walk through twice since there is so much stuff to see! I went in thinking that everything would be "used" from staging projects but this shop has all new stuff from what I could tell. Next I will check out the warehouse. read more

The worst furniture shopping experience of my life - the cabinet we bought matched our dining table (purchased elsewhere) and was in stock at their Colony Place store. When the cabinet was delivered, there was some damage to the bottom edges, a light cover was missing and one of the doors was noticeably warped and would not close properly. Blair, the owner, is rude and disrespectful - I was only able to get my cabinet fixed after disputing the charge on my Amex (so basically they take the $$ out of their account) - the last phone call I received, I ended up hanging up on the man - something I never do - as he was demanding payment before he would send someone out - and making all sorts of threats etc. The repair person they sent out (finally) - was terrific - and after two months of aggravation, made things right. He is NOT an employee of this company. NEVER AGAIN would I purchase ANYTHING from Setting the Space. read more

They put horrible, dirty "pictures" and furniture that all looked like were given away to Goodwill and recycled for them to charge an outrageous amount of money in our $2M home. The space rug smelled and had holes in it. I can go on and on. Of course we immediately told them to take it all away and asked CORT Furniture instead to do the staging instead (who entirely met our needs and were much less expensive to boot). But wait, then Setting the Space didn't refund us our money for their horrible setting. And when I stopped the check they sicked an attorney on us! DO NOT, DO NOT make our mistake! read more

On Saturday the sales person who helped me was a little aggressive and didn't understand I wanted to browse in one of my favorite stores. I hired this company to stage my condo in Boston. The staging itself was fine, not extraordinary, but adequate. The customer service is terrible. They tried to use a lamp with a short in it and almost caused severe electrical damage. I had to pay an electrician and am still waiting for this issue to be acknowledged and be reimbursed for the cost of their mistake. Then they almost held up my closing by waiting until the last minute to pick up their furniture. EXPENSIVE, BAD SERVICE, IRRESPONSIBLE, DO NOT HIRE. read more

They sell the same stuff that you find at Bernie and Phyl's or at Jordan;s Furniture, but at at least twice the price and a whole lot of "we are designers" attitude. The accesories they sell you can find at Homegoods for less than half the price. They also are dishonest. Be very careful to get everything in writing because they will not back up what they say. We were told that if we did not like the furniture that we ordered through a catalog then we could simply return it. But when it came in they were singing a different tune. What an experience we had!!!! Honestly we should call our home"Setting The Space @ The Pine Hills". We bought all of our furniture for our new home in The Pine Hills here! We were absolutely ecstatic with our experience at Setting The Space - it started as we entered the store and were encouraged to sit down and enjoy the spaces that they have created and really experience the feeling of the furniture. As we sat the owner Blair joined us and immediately we fell in love with him and the overall vibe of the store! They made us feel like we were the only customers in the store (yet the store was packed)... I thought I had a good eye for design until we decided to take Blair up on his offer to send s designer out for a consultation. I joked with Blair to send his best designer out and oh boy did he listen! Will Hayward - Blair's partner came out to our home and we were floored with his design. When he left I turned to my husband and said "I am so not worthy!" Will's design blew our mind's... We were in - and our home was soon outfitted with the coolest high quality furniture that looked like something from the Sonoma valley! We had custom ordered a bunch of furniture and they had asked if we wanted temporary in the meantime - what? How cool is that??? The home that Will and Setting The Space originally came to was on the shore and sold shortly after we put the house on the market! The new buyers specifically asked me who decorated our home... I wanted to say "me!" But I had to let them know it was Setting The Space. Obviously when we moved to the Pine Hills I knew the first place I was headed Setting The Space! Honestly, I read the other reviews and can't understand the feedback - sure you can find cheaper stuff on WayFair but most times the discounted prices are due to damaged goods. What you can't find on WayFair is the tremendous service, the catered delivery and set-up. read more

My wife and I thorough enjoyed the experience. Absolutely unsure that we saw everything, seems every time we turned a corner there was something new to see. Always looking for ways to accessorize our home, and unusual pieces that catch the eye. It doesn't hurt to be functional, too. Just saw an amazing easel stand, thought it would be a great piece for a painting, then realized it was for a flat screen TV! Went home to think about it, heading back tomorrow to purchase it.
