This place is small, otherwise fairly easy to find and the check-in process is fairly quick. Anyone…read morewho's tested at Pearson Vue for professional licensure is familiar with these places. This location is primarily a food safety education organization, but is also a testing site. You check in, sign-in. You pick a locker and just empty all your pockets and put it in the locker. You sit to have your picture taken. Oh did I mention 2 forms of ID? Well, he used my driver's license and my credit card (signatures) as ID. It wasn't charged or anything. The dude was polite, after I was checked in I was offered to go in when I was ready. My appointment was 10 AM, I was checked in and ready at 9:25. Considering the exam time allotted was 3 hours, I made one trip to the restroom before starting. I got in a half hour early. With COVID people were separated by 6 feet, and the mask had to be on the whole time. Returning to the test center I was logged into the computer, I opted for materials to write out for calculations (really it was for the Parkland Formula for burns, that's all I would need it for in case that question came up) and the testing program had a calculator function available. After an hour and twenty minutes, I finished. You had the option to flag questions to go back to if you're not sure. You can also go back to the beginning of the exam and cycle through to review answers. If there are questions you didn't answer, the exam also has an option to go back to just those questions. This is the set-up for Pearson Vue's exams, my wife just had her boards the day before for Social Work. I sat for my nursing boards 7 years ago, I don't quite remember what it was like but this all felt familiar. You complete the exam (it asks you 3 times as if people with test-taking anxiety don't have enough to worry about) then the exam closes. You go back to the check-in. For nursing they didn't tell us that day, we had to wait for a letter telling us if we passed Not pertinent to the review, but a side note: there was a little cheat back then for the Nursing Boards; if you tried to register for another test after you had your NCLEX exam, but if it said you weren't qualified to register an exam date, then it meant you passed. If it allowed you to register for a test date, it meant you failed your boards. We had to wait 2-3 business days to learn if we passed after exams, but by doing this little trick we learned that day. I heard recently that this changed and you couldn't do it anymore. Now back to our regular programming. I'm wondering if it was Pearson Vue that conducted my written exam for my EMT (but that was 2007, I honestly have no clue, the examinations were written by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, one of 5 states not part of national registry at that time). I found out the day of for my EMT, and I found out that day that I passed my examination for CEN. My wife also found out she passed after exiting the exam. Oh, and there is a camera on you with you being monitored the whole time. The examination process is pretty tight and rigid.

I love sushi. I love cruises. So when I saw a Gilt offer for a sushi-making harbor cruise, I…read morethought, "Wow. Dreams really do come true." Unfortunately this dream ended up being mediocre at best. Gilt advertised the event with photos of delicious-looking, hand-crafted rolls in a classy, nautical setting. In reality, we were all on the warm, crowded bottom-most deck of a booze cruise. After the demonstration by Sea To You (which was a bit difficult to understand because of the chef's microphone and accent), we were handed boxes containing overly-sticky rice, seaweed, a stick of imitation crabmeat, and shredded carrots and told to go for it. But wait! Don't get too crazy! We're not allowed to eat the sushi we make. What?! I could already imagine the conversation I was going to have with my coworkers the next day when they asked me about the cruise (which I, of course, was gushing excitedly about during work). "So how did your sushi turn out?" "Well I don't know how it tasted... but it looked pretty good." I obviously wasn't going to let that happen, so my friends and I snuck in bites despite the company's warnings. It didn't taste great.. the rice was way too sticky, and there just wasn't much else to it. But we had to do it. And I'm still here to tell the tale. The company obviously realized that they couldn't have us make sushi without eating some (and for $35, I sure hope some food is included!), so they brought prepared boxes of salmon, tuna, and avocado rolls. These rolls were extremely simple and did not taste very fresh. There was too much rice, and it was also hard and refrigerator-cold (I don't know why this company has so many rice troubles). We were still pretty hungry afterward (which is also part of the reason we ate the ones we made). Afterward, we went up to the top deck of the Provincetown II and has a fantastic time drinking and dancing. The sushi portion just didn't make much sense with the setting and could have happened anywhere. In the future, I'll just go on the cruise sans sushi. And if I ever sign up for another sushi class, I'll make sure to inquire if we actually get to eat what we make. Who would've thought this is a question someone would need to ask?

When you enter, you are greeted by a glass case of fresh raw fish in front of you and freezers of ingredients such as BBQ smoked eel $9 for a pack ($7 per pack for 2 or more) and Tamago (sweet egg) $14/$12. If you like, you can also get a bottle of eel sauce for $4.99. Walk in and by the cash register just beyond the serve yourself bar with sea weed salad, various sizes of fish eggs, and what not there is a menu binder. Turns out some items can only be ordered in advance online and en mass ($20 minimum?) like the bento boxes. The roll menu is pretty small, so I ended up ordering the sole two cooked rolls they had - Dragon Roll $12.95 which is basically California roll topped with a slice of eel apiece, and shrimp tempura roll $8.95 made with pre-fried battered shrimp. Service here was friendly, but a little tough to understand. I saw my rolls being made before my eyes, but oddly enough, upon consuming them, they reminded me of supermarket sushi with less moist rice. (I'm under the impression that supermarkets over vinegar the rice to keep it from drying out during the holding period.) They were okay, but not especially good.

We were there early since they sent him a notification (first come first serve). We were by 5:45 am. Once they arrived they started to setup "tests" in the parking lot of the RMV in Braintree which was closed. My son was then tested in their Driver's Ed car primarily (90%) in the parking lot. I watched as they asked him to perform parallel parking, signaling, and a 3-point turn. The person who was testing him (which we don't know if they are a RMV representative) failed him for a 3-point turn because (he was too far to the left of the cones". Why would cones positioning matter when a 3 point turn is executed to have you make a left toward the curb, and then reverse far enough to pull forward again to drive to the opposite side of a road. Again, this test was performed in a parking lot, not on a street where you can observe proper execution of a 3 point turn. While at the so-called "test", my son found out that of the 25 odd people there, they were all re-testing because they had failed the first time. Scam is written all of this operation. In addition to this charade of a test, he was supposed to have had a hour driving practice in the car he would be tested on August 5th. Instead we only received 30 minutes due to the company not specifying that for practice driving in their vehicle he *must* have a printed copy of his permit. We wasted 30 minutes discussing why this was necessary and then finding a UPS where we paid to print out a copy of the permit (which was on his phone). This company repeatedly did not respond to emails or calls leading up to the practice driving or the "test". The owner John stated that he had to fire his office person because she was not doing her job. Problem is, once he told us this, he didn't remedy the situation. In total I spent $250 and are not *any* closer to my son having his license. I will be reporting this company to the Mass Attorney General's office.
