For context, I am a 15 year tradesman and know a thing or two about operating a successful company…read more These guys get it. This is a great family business, I can't say enough about how grateful we are. Our 25 year old oil-boiler died one evening leaving us without hot water. Ken Jaworski at KMB answered my phone call and spent 20 minutes of his own time educating me on what likely went wrong and what my options were moving forward. After he accounted for our family size and usage, and such things as our vision/goals for our house in the near future (going solar) and heating with a wood stove, he suggested an electric hot water heater. Instead of upselling us on a $12,000-$15,000 boiler like everyone else I had talked to insisted, he presented us with a $2600 solution. Thats only the start. Ken and his son showed up the very next day with everything they needed. They were both very professional and helpful, even allowing me to pick their brain and answering all my questions about our system, new and old. Their work was clean, they left no mess and we were ecstatic. Fast forward two weeks - the brand new water heater suffered a catastrophic failure due to a manufacturing defect! This is a top of the line unit, and in Kens words, "the only time he has ever seen something like this". This was a Sunday night, and after a quick call to Ken, he was back Monday afternoon with a brand new unit. Did I mention he had to travel across state to pick up the new unit? Because he did. He put all his work and life on pause and made us priority number 1. He didn't hesitate or ask any questions, no deflecting or complaining. He just heard what happened and took the necessary action to keep our hot water flowing and our family happy. We genuinely could not be happier with the service we received. I hope many generations of great success for Ken, his family and business. We can't thank you guys enough!

We hired Handyman Suffield, Enfield, and Coventry for a full bathroom remodel through a referral /…read morescreening platform. The experience taught me several important lessons. Although the handyman local company had many positive reviews, none were for a full remodel -- only small repairs or generic statements. The estimate provided was vague and didn't specify plumbing, electrical work, or wall/ceiling prep, which I now realize are essential when converting a shower to a bathtub. I assumed the daily labor rate covered what was needed to complete the job. By day four of a six day estimate, it was clear they weren't equipped for the job. No plumber had been scheduled, forcing me to hire a same day plumber at a very expensive rate. I paid directly for this charge $2800. Basic installation steps were missed until I pointed them out, wall prep was sloppy, and the new floor was cut unevenly with visible gaps. A worker even used my household garbage can as a cutting table. The owner insisted there were numerous changes that delayed the project. The estimate said any changes to scope would follow a formal process that was never invoked once. I thought except for a couple of changes the others were implied under general work statements like "install tub." I stopped the project with handyman and hired licensed professionals, whose workmanship was significantly better. I spent an additional $9,400 to finish and correct the work. We also disagreed with Handyman on the monies owed -- they insisted four days of labor were owed, even though the project was nowhere near 4/6 complete. They side my additional costs were not relevant to what I owed them. Takeaway: Match the scope of your project to the contractor's skill set. A full bathroom remodel requires licensed trades and a detailed estimate. Before starting, use an AI tool describing your project and it lead you through the critical points. Once you select a contractor ask the AI tool how good a fit the selection is.

I scheduled a cleaning with "West Hartford Cleaners" based on their five star glowing reviews. But…read morebeware: these reviews date back some time; West Hartford Cleaners is now "Ameri-Best" and maybe is not the same company. My childhood home in Canton had been immaculately kept up (yes, white carpets) until the death of my mother several years ago. In the meantime, my stepfather, 80 years of age, continues to live in the house. He has a cat and very little motivation to upkeep the house, and so the issue was old cat vomit stains on the white rug. No problem, they assured me, but also mentioned several times that stains tend to reappear after a cleaning, and that they would come back and retreat if necessary. I live out of state and came to see the job a week after they did it. It looked barely different from before the cleaning, and they had not moved or cleaned under any furniture. I called the main office, spoke to Pam, who said a she would send someone out immediately to retreat. Someone came out within two hours, and he identified himself as the same one who had done the carpets a week before. There had been no problems, he said, and all the stains had come clean the first time. Before he began, he emphasized the importance of drying the carpets quickly in order to prevent the stains from appearing again. Normally, he explained, in basements and poorly ventilated homes (like this one), they used floor fans to aid in drying. But he also said he had none available that day. He referred me to Joe, the owner of the company, who agreed that stains will relift if the carpets aren't immediately dried. I had to use considerable restraint to not ask the obvious: If you know that these stains will resurface because this house has no ventilation and you have no fans today, why are we even doing this? Instead, I concentrated on being positive and asked if we could procure fans the following morning. He readily agreed, and I called Joe first thing the following morning and left a message. When I heard nothing back I called again at 11:30. In the meantime I had been watching, to my dismay, all the stains reappearing over the course of the day and the previous night. The house was beginning to smell dank and feel very damp, the rugs still wet to the touch. Also, a new problem: yellow pattern streaking over one patch that had not been there before. It looked consistent with a chemical burn, because I have seen them before when white turns to yellow. I finally got Joe on the phone close to noon that day and he sounded cross and told me he had no fans for us to use that day either. Frustrated, I asked him the obvious: why did we even go through this pointless exercise of retreating? At that point, he lost his temper, started yelling at me that he had done the best he could, and hung up the phone. I hadn't even gotten a chance to bring up the chemical burns; I'm sure he would've handled that topic gracefully as well. Sorry--to tell a long story takes time, but please beware of this company. I am still deciding whether I will pursue this issue in small claims, but I would spare anyone this hassle and aggravation.
