Christ Based? I don't think so! On ServantHR's web page there is a section titled "The Truth". They claim Jesus Christ is their model; really? Let me tell you a story and you decide if they are truly a "faith based company" or if that is just a marketing ploy for a company that is actually using legal, but immoral business practices, in the pursuit of the almighty dollar? Let me start from the beginning. My wife had a good job with a good company in downtown Indianapolis, but wanted something closer to home and so she applied for a benefits coordinator position with ServanHR in Fishers, Indiana. Michael Yoder and the other executives at ServantHR made the job sound very attractive with flexible work hours, the ability to work at home, and big item for my wife was the religious basis for the business. Her role, as she was told to was take over the benefits administration and to spear head a new service they were going to provide, so she quit her good job downtown and went to work for ServantHR. Things went south pretty quickly for my wife at ServantHR. As a benefits company it was the time of year for benefits open enrollment, if you're not familiar with benefits this is their busiest time of year, real crunch time and ServantHR had no one except my wife to prepare all of the benefits packages for thirteen different companies; administrative work she was not above doing but not using the skill set she thought she was hired to do. She worked long hours, typically twelve to fifteen hours a day, seven days a week to get this job done, and she did get it done. My wife is a hard worker with an incredible work ethic; she carried on and got the job done fully believing that the hard work, long hours and stress would pay off in the long run. Interesting enough, after crunch time and the packets are all out Mr. Yoder called her in and told her the other programs they had planned to initiate had not been approved and so they could no longer afford to keep her. It is my opinion that Servant HR hired my wife solely for the purpose of getting this work done with the full knowledge that when the work was done there would not be a position for my wife. Is that really what Jesus would do? Rather than being driven by Christian values it is my belief that ServantHR is driven by the greed of its owners and management and had no regard for the devastating effect their actions had on my wife and our family. Losing a job is emotionally devastating, especially if you are a dedicated, hardworking individual that believes that integrity and hard work will be rewarded. When I say emotionally devastating, I mean emotionally devastating; you begin to question your own worth; you blame yourself for the loss of the job regardless of the circumstances and you feel incredible guilt about letting your family down and you are embarrassed to face your friends. That's the emotional part. Then there is the financial impact. It is estimated that to find a new (appropriate) job it takes about a month for each year of your age; my wife is 58. It took her 2 years of looking to find this job and about the same about of time to find the job she left for this one. At my wife's age the reality is that she may never (never) find another job as good as the one she quit to work for ServantHR. ServantHR gave her a two weeks' severance and a 6 page severance agreement prepared by their attorney to protect them from any recourse. Thanks for the severance, two weeks! ServantHR has devastated my wife emotionally and impacted our family financially in a way for which we shall never recover so they could get their enrollment packets out and could continue to make their salaries, without any regard for the damage inflicted upon my wife and our family. Servant HR did write my wife a letter of recommendation raving about her work and work ethic and offered their prayers (we pray for them as well). It is my opinion that ServantHR is an immoral organization that puts dollars ahead (way ahead) of moral or Christian values. Additionally, in my opinion, they violated federal law regarding exempt employees by treating my wife as an exempt employee when the bulk of her work was more administrative in nature, but by treating her as exempt they did not have to pay her overtime. Also of interest, on their website Servant HR still shows my wife as an employee; using her background and skills as a part of their marketing program. I'm sure if you ask ServantHR they would tell you that they were just following solid business practices. I guess their devotion to Christian values stop when it interferes with "solid business practices" and their ability to maintain their lifestyles. read more
