The food was absolutely delicious. I ordered the small guacamole for an appetizer. They give you free chips and salsa, which is great. I also ordered the burrito dinner with steak and then I ordered a single steak taco. Both were absolutely delicious. I wasn't sure which item I actually wanted to try so I got both and I ended up bringing most of the burrito home because it was so big. I hope that they get more servers in. The one server who was there today, MARISOL, was absolutely wonderful. She checked on me the right amount of times. Things got a little busy, but she did a great job. The restaurant itself is very clean and it's very quiet and it has a cozy feeling to it. Definitely recommend this place. read more

Good tacos, good chips. Horrible salsa. Tamales are cheeks as ever, but the waitress is very kind but not very responsive. Very quiet, which I enjoy. Overpriced read more

A small little corner that might make you miss it! Stopped in for breakfast! They have everything - American and Mexican options. The ambiance is relaxing and the service is friendly and attentive. Great kids menu! Prices are more reasonable than other places in town and the food was wonderful. Definitely a must try! Also, taco Tuesday- All Tacos $1.99. We will be back! read more

Great food and service. Never disappointed. Mostly I get carry out. Usually very prompt. Never had to wait

Best Mexican food in valpo, easily. The servers are fast and accurate, the kitchen is fresh and hot, everything is clean including the kitchen, restrooms, and dining room. Best items include the taco salad, the Al pastor protein (in whatever it's all good), and salsa verde. Excited to go back again read more

My wife and I went for dinner at 6 pm on a Friday night and we were seated right away. This is a small place with about 15 tables. Generally, when we come here, you can get a table right away. Our server came right over and gave us a menu. The menu is large, and you will find all your favorite Mexican dishes. My wife and I both ordered the enchilada suiza, and I also asked for a bottled Mexican Coke. We then served chips and salsa. The chips tasted like they came right out of a bag and the salsa really didn't have that much flavor, so I added some hot sauce and that helped. After a short time, we were brought our meals, and everything looked really good. There was plenty of cheese, sauce, and sour cream. Everything tasted good. My wife also enjoyed her dinner. This place is a good choice when you are looking for fast service, decent food at a reasonable price. It is rarely packed, and the service is always on point. This is not my favorite Mexican restaurant, but it is one that I go to when I'm in the area and hungry. read more

This was my first time being here - Tuesday, Jan 7 at night. I picked up an order here. The food took a long time, but that's not even the issue. The issue was that the hostess just wasn't friendly. She barely even looked me in the eyes when talking to me. She just seemed annoyed. I don't mind waiting for food, but at least try to be personable. You don't even have to fake a smile, but at least look someone in the eyes when you're talking to them. She just seemed annoyed. read more

Want a quick lunch? Then don't come here! It took forever for everything from being seated to having salsa and chips to having the waitress take my drink and food order to paying. My food did come pretty quickly though. The biggest reason why Serranos took forever is because there is one waitress that speaks English and another that does not that just runs food. The poor waitress that speaks English is overwhelmed! She is having to do everything for about the 10 tables in the restaurant. But still there needs to be some better organization. But I do have to say that all my food was delicious and what you would find normally from a Mexican restaurant. Nothing to set it apart except for the service needs better organization. read more

Food was good. Walked in and got take out fast without ordering ahead. Price was a little high but reasonable

Great food, reasonably priced! Came here for lunch with a family member and got the shrimp fajita salad. It didn't disappoint! It came in a fried flour shell, lettuce, cotija cheese, avocado, beans, corn, and shrimp and tortilla strips. It was packed with shrimp and very filling. Service was very friendly. I'd never been here but it was a great experience! read more

Very solid 80% on the Mexican food authenticity scale. This place also has, in my personal opinion, a 90% in quality. When I say 80% in authenticity, I don't mean quality. I mean Mexican authentic compared to more americanized Mexican. Now let me give you my scale for authenticity. Mexican Authenticity defined: For example, A place (not this one) with Tacos that have cheddar cheese tomatoes and/or black olives are an big indicator of americanization, as are absences of homemade tortillas or chips or the limes for tacos or the pickled carrots. On the other hand, Tacos with grilled steak on two corn tortillas with only cebollo y cilantro are Authentic Mexican, as are, jalapeños toreandos, homemade tortillas, and homemade salsa. By way of example, Taco bell rates a 0 on authentic scale and a place in pilsen that makes its own homemade tortillas and fries its own chips and has pickled carrots, onions and jalapeños is 100% authentic. Now why does this place not have a 100% quality? Because in large part because all their homemade stuff rocks 100%. For example - their refried beans are light and fluffy as is their rice. The steak tacos are spot on and no grizzle (which ironically takes away from authenticity ). So whats missing are home made tortilla chips (they have good ones but I bet if they made them in house it would rock). They are missing a few more salsa varieties on the table. They are missing just a few odds and ends that I just cant put my finger on but this place is damn good! read more

Food was so-so. I've had better and I've had worse. Had the chicken fajita and friend had the steak fajita. Pretty good. I wasn't a fan of the sides as they were bland. Chips and salsa were ok and they keep those coming. Had a Mexican beer also which was good. The restaurant could use some updating. Our server was friendly. Would I go back? Maybe, but many other places I'd rather go first. read more

I was excited to see the menu, and that they had chimichangas, but they were a huge disappointment. Chimichangas should have a crisp to them, nd these might have when they came out of the fryer, but they were completely drenched and soaked in a sauce. They were basically smothered tacos when I got them. The flavor was good, but again, it was a smothered taco. I also ordered chips with guacamole. Chips were excellent, and properly packaged in a paper bag. Obviously homemade and exceptional. I order two orders of guac just to make sure I had enough for the chips and some extra for the chimichangas and the quesadillas I ordered. For over $2 per order, I got the smallest Solo sauce cups, Maybe 2 Tbsp each. A chip wouldn't even fit in the cup. VERY disappointing, s the guac was very good and absolutely fresh. I also ordered the quesadillas (pork) and they were pretty good. I asked for extra cheese and said I was happy to pay for it, but pretty sure I didn't get it. I think if this place executed properly, and the portion sizes on the guac were fair (I'd happily pay more to get a decent size order) this would hqve been a good experience. read more

The inside was clean and bright, our server was attentive and quick. We went in at 3pm and the food came out quickly. The main course wasn't exceptional. I ordered enchiladas and the red sauce seemed like they just heated up the salsa served with chips and poured it over the enchiladas. Beans were kind of dry and rice could've used more seasoning. The fr4ied ice cream though was definitely the highlight of the meal. A huge portion, easily shared between 3-4 people. Not overly sweet and the coating was very crisp. Probably the best I've had. So a good place to watch some sports (they have 2 large flat screens), have some drinks, chips and salsa and possible dessert. For authentic Mexican food, not so much. read more

Most of the food was good. Flan tasted either old or overcooked. It was lumpy and dry. Worst flan I had ever had. They had no Jalapeño Poppers and Tres Leches Cake so was not able to try those. I did order threw GrubHub and the restaurant was not able to credit me for the items they did not have so I had to spend a long time opening a claim online and waiting for customer support to get credit for the items they did not have. I do not think they should accept an order with missing items before clearing it with the customer. read more

Delicious!!! We ordered the party fajitas and couldn't have been happier. Everything was so good. The meal came with pork, shrimp, chicken, steak, chorizo, 2 plates of rice and beans. My second time here. I thought the food was better the first time we visited. I ordered the Mexican soup and it was a 5 out of 10. I also found a hair in it unfortunately. I ordered the burrito ranchero and the meat was over seasoned. I could not eat all my meal which is unlike me at a Mexican restaurant. The rice and beans were also just okay. I didn't feel the beans were creamy and had a nice flavor. Did seem old and somewhat thick and chunky. Maybe from last nights beans that were leftover? I prob will not dine here again. read more

Mas comida Mexicana! And I'm talking the real stuff not the big restaurant kind of stuff. Authentically good, made to order (not made prior and heated up), Mexican food where you might even find some of the menu items actually served in Mexico! I get pretty fired up about Mexican food because there's so little of it and is deeply unappreciated. Here's some pluses - the chips and salsa are very good. While we were waiting for our lunch I ordered some guacamole and we asked to try the mole sauce. When a restaurant serves mole that's a great sign that you're actually getting the real deal. Both their guacamole and mole were very good! In fact, their mole was less bitter and had a nice rich sweet aftertaste to it. The guacamole could have used a bit more lime but it was tasty enough. I ordered the carnitas lunch. Incredibly good! Along with the rice and beans, and diced tomatoes I was very satisfied! My friend ordered a burrito and had no complaints. Ask for the tomatillo sauce. Really good! Overall, I'm impressed! The only thing I noticed they don't serve is breakfast. Maybe as the restaurant traffic picks up they will open up earlier. Otherwise, it was very good! read more

I got the chimichanga while my son got the fajita enchiladas and he got the enchiladas - all were great. The guacamole was great- the service was great - it was a small strip mall area but it was really great Mexican food. Very inexpensive and tasty. You should give it a try. read more

Tried Serranos out recently (weeknight) and was underwhelmed. Took 15 minutes to get sat when there were open tables, presumably that just needed to be cleaned off. Tacos were pretty bland, could have used...well any kind of seasoning. Mexican rice was something I could have heated up in a pouch, not much to it. Doubtful I'll return here when there are two better places within shouting distance. read more

Decided to try something different than our usual favorite Mexican food restaurant El Saltos. Serranos is hands down the best Mexican food in NWI. The staff is fast and friendly. The food is full of flavor a d absolutely delicious. The prices are fair and reasonable. Beat part is they offer a punch card program. There are a fee domestic beer options and some traditional Mexican alcoholic bottled drinks. This place would be absolutely perfect if they had margaritas. read more

Eh. Steak was flavorful but fatty, couldn't chew. Chicken was flavorless. Beans lacked flavor but not bad. Rice was plain, No ingredients like authentic Mexican rice. Chips weren't fresh. Salsa was salty not flavorful. This is key, Guacamole (no flavor) seemed Pre-bagged like subways which means it wouldn't be fresh and has added preservatives. Just a guess. Not certain. Red Enchiladas sauce plain. Mole sauce is excellent! Service was prompt and friendly read more

Main dish good. Sides (rice, beans) absolutely awful and the service even worse. There were two other sets of customers meaning it wasnt busy but not only were we not asked for a refill on our pepsis, we waited over twenty minutes to get our check so we could leave. Was hoping for a nice mexican restaurant to go to when we don't feel like making the drive to Schererville for Jalapenos but was very disappointed. We will not be back. Oh, and the parking wasn't great either. Avoid. read more
