I have been eagerly awaiting the reopening of Serino Park on the southside of Margate. It has been two years in the making at a cost of 1.2 million dollars. I have been frequently checking out the progress while driving by and it is finally open. Serino Park is one of the last Margate city park to receive renovations funded by the City's Parks Bond passed by voters in 2018.
I have been frequently checking out the progress on this park while driving by and it is finally open. Improvements include new restrooms, pavilion with picnic tables and grill, a covered playground for toddlers and older kids, a water feature play area for kids, paved exercise path, a dozen Royal Palm trees, landscaping, and decorative lighting. There is plenty of parking available.
The best feature of the new park is a fitness court that was created by National Campaign Fitness Court, a nationwide consulting organization that partners with cities and schools to create fitness hubs to improve the well being of the community. NFC trademarked this seven station fitness court in 2012. It is an open air wellness center and is adaptable to all fitness levels. Your own body weight is used to give you an optimal workout. On the side of the court is an app you can download that will help you use the court properly. The app takes you to videos of workouts you can do to strengthen every part of your body. The beginner workout is seven stations where you do exercise for 45 seconds and then rest for 15 seconds before moving on. it is like having a personal trainer in your phone. I found the videos to be clear and helpful. Even though I worked out for only 7 minutes, I was feeling it. I previously tried one of these courts in Deerfield and liked it so I am so happy to find one closer to home that I can use more frequently. Margate did an amazing job on this park. read more
