Love this pool! Great prices, clean, and secure with lifeguards on staff. The deep end of the pool…read moregoes to 12 ft deep! Wish the pool had a bigger grassy area for patrons to lounge and sunbathe on towels and blankets. Disappointed that they didnt have proper shower and changing areas in the restrooms. All they had were toilet stalls in the womens restroom. The city only offers two outdoor rinse-off showers for everyone to use. They probably made it bare minimum like that for safety reasons.

We recently took a day off and wanted to take our bikes out for a spin. After hitting Kitty Hollow…read morein Missouri City and Oyster Creek in Sugar Land, we decided to try to find Memorial Park in Sugar Land. Well, Siri had trouble finding Memorial Park. But she did point us to this one. It's an older neighborhood in Sugar Land and it looks like it's been there forever. But it's totally worth finding: - Well maintained bike/jogging trail that goes for a couple of miles - Skate park for the teenage boys in your family - Tennis - Baseball/Softball fields that are well maintained and used by the Little League - Sand Volleyball - A public pool The pool is pretty basic but it ranges from 3 to 12 feet and has 2 diving boards. It's also dirt cheap. Sugar Land residents pay $1 for kids under 18 before 5 and $2.25 for adults before 5, $0.50 for kids/$1.00 for adults after 5. Non residents can use the pool for a little more: $1.25 for kids under 18 and $2.85 for adults before 5, $0.65 for kids and $1.25 for adults after 5. We eventually found Memorial Park in a newer part of Sugar Land. But the pool at City Park is a good option for the summer if you don't have ready access to one in your neighborhood and the trails are well maintained. If your kids are into skateboards, the skate park has shade and looked pretty popular.

It may have taken a few years, but the Alief Neighborhood Center finally came into fruition early…read morelast year to help revitalize one of Houston's most vibrant neighborhoods. For both outdoor and indoor activities, this is an incredible option for folks in the community. The space is substantial with a bevy of options that include a skatepark, swimming pool, tennis courts, an enormous children's playground, and lots of room for folks looking to exercise outdoors. It is a pet friendly area and a perfect destination for families, social gatherings, and even special occasions. Parking is abundant all throughout the property. The neighborhood center includes a gym + fitness center (#1), basketball courts, and indoor walking track. There are venue spaces for both adults and children for up to 25 people at no cost. There is also after school enrichment programs for kids, teens, and additional programs for seniors. There are volunteer opportunities and community development programming throughout the year. Because it's still fairly new, the facilities and everything are in good shape. Time will tell if they will be able to maintain it but for now it serves as an ideal resource for folks looking to get active and be a part of the Alief community. Best of all, it's all free. __________ (#1) Note: there is no shower or sauna.

Planned in conjunction…read morewith Houston's Park/Rec, Health, and Library departments, I imagine it must have taken decades of coordination and follow-through to complete. You can find anything and everything related to community gatherings here: a skatepark, enormous children's playground, ping pong tables, indoor basketball courts, lifting equipment, lounges, library... the list goes on. I stopped by to finish some remote work in the library. It shares space with a kids enrichment area, so I recommend noise cancelling headphones if you need to focus. It's not as expansive as some of the other libraries, but then again, the Houston Public Library system has set a high bar for itself. The endless list of recreational activities deserves so much praise, but this center offers valuable services as well. I saw countless residents lined up for tax guidance, immigration law, and a clinic for women and children. Alief especially benefits from this establishment as a minority predominant community, with many of its residents living in less privileged conditions. I don't think I've ever seen a public facility this massive. I'm so proud of Alief's local leaders and the City of Houston for making these plans a reality.
