I said then that I wouldn't go into details about…read morewhy I left such a negative review after doing business with Maizie for probably about two decades (both consigning and shopping) but since changed my mind. I had brought in some items to consign. Among them was a pocketbook, never used in perfect condition; it was not a top end designer bag but was a very good name brand selling for about $400. I felt that Karen priced it way too low for what I paid for it. I ended up deciding to leave it anyway since store policy is not to mark down again for five weeks if it doesn't sell, which Karen even reminded me of verbally. I called back in EXACTLY five weeks to the day and guess what?? It had already sold days before, and Karen had marked it down even further!! A direct violation of store policy that she promises to her consignors and also a direct violation of what she told me when I was on the fence about leaving it; in other words, a direct LIE. I ended up getting a 'pittance' of what I paid for it. It's very sad that a business owner would choose to pull a stunt like that; lying to a customer, but also violating store policy is, in essence, lying to all her customers.

The store attendant/owner was incredibly rude to my partner - a polite inquiry about the price of a piece and any possible discount was met with an exaggerated exclamation of "No! No!" and being instructed with a bit of a condescending tone to put the piece back. A far kinder and more respectful response would have been more appropriate, welcoming, and effective (something like the following would have been more called for: 'no, I'm sorry that is the price I must sell it for, let me know if you're still interested or if i can show you another piece at your price point'). After the reaction, as my partner was putting the piece back and we were already moving toward the door leaving, the attendant/owner half-heartedly offered the piece could still be had (for the stated price), but the damage was already done. Though it is hard to know for certain, and she could have been having a bad day or have this character with everyone and would like to give benefit of the doubt, it is possible that there were some unconscious racial dynamics involved as my partner is a Person of Color. My partner felt deeply embarrassed/humiliated and upset - and the incident left a bad taste. Warning to others and suggest the owner/attendant to examine their behavior toward customers and to treat them with respect and kindness.

Definitely an asset to the town of Harrison. This store is within a few minutes walk from my place and is open later than most vintage stores I know. I used to cross the Tappan Zee to Nyack or go up to New Paltz for some cool finds, but am very happy that we have a cool vintage store in Westchester! I come mainly for the clothing and have walked out with something each time. Here are some pictures of my haul. The clothing is definitely unique and there are some designer options as well. There are knick knacks, jewelry, shoes, accessories, and other small items as well. The owner is so nice and encourages you to try things on, pick up anything that catches your eye, and have fun!
