My husband and I were late in the game in our search for a birth doula. At 37 weeks pregnant and being this is my second child, we decided to do it ourselves and find help from an instructor who would be able to teach us pain management during labor and birthing positions using holistic modalities and incorporating yoga. There's nothing better than having a knowledgeable person by your side when you're going through giving birth. Patricia made the natural birth of my 2nd child possible, and powerful! I've known Patricia for a few years now. Attended her amazing pre-natal yoga classes at Yoga Works El Segundo . She wasn't available to assist the birth of my 1st child, but I'm so lucky she was with me during the 2nd one! One of the highlights of my early Labor was how we walked the neighborhood with her for almost 2 hours. That definitely helped my contractions to intensify. We got to the hospital when I was already 8.5 cm open! The toughest part was when my epidural had to be turned off to allow for the natural birth (the doctor was already preparing for a C-section). And when I started feeling that incredible urge for pushing AND had to hold off pushing for half hour - that's where breathing technique that Patricia was coaching me on was worth gold! My husband loved the company of course, being on edge and nervous. She calmly answered all his hundreds questions, which helped him relax more and concentrate on staying present. I called her when I was 4 months pregnant because Birth Doula's can book up fast. I wanted to have a knowledgeable doula by my side for most of the journey as I'm a first time mom. Love Patricia! I started taking her prenatal yoga classes at 13 weeks pregnant 2-3x a week all the way up until I went into labor. We are so lucky to have her here in South Bay. I had my first 2 kids with Epidural and after watching the documentary "The business of being born" plus talking to people and reading about births and how drugs might affect the baby and mother, I wanted to try to have my third baby naturally. I found out that my baby was in a transverse breech position and this really upset me because most doctors will do a c-section with breech babies. So I googled for a doula to look into getting some help. Patricia was the second doula that I talked to and she was so helpful even talking to me for the first time. I told her about wanting to try the Webster method with a chiropractor to try to turn my baby and she recommended me one and also suggested yoga and certain poses and exercises that might help. Yogaworks where she teaches prenatal yoga was actually reasonably priced so I signed up. I even thought about considering acupuncture and she also knew someone that knew how to turn breech babies. After a few weeks of worrying, I went to my OB and she checked with an ultrasound and baby had turned! I was so excited! I actually didn't get to go to the chiropractor yet nor the acupuncturist but I did go to Patricia's yoga classes. I really love her classes because being the instructor, a doula and a mom herself, she understands what we need as pregnant mommies. What is great is that she talks about different births and also has couples come in and tell their birth stories and we all learn so much. It specially helped with my fear of having a baby without drugs; I was really concerned about the pain and working with a hospital staff that usually deals with drugs and surgeries. We also went to the couple's yoga where Patricia talked to us about being ready for labor and birth. First of all stay calm and don't panic and when would be a good time to go to the hospital, especially if you want to try natural. It was really great preparation for what was to come. Week 38, my husband and I decided to go on a stay-cation/baby-moon with our 2 kids. Drove a couple of hours Friday night and in the morning had a really great breakfast. Later we went to check out the pool and then I noticed the "bloody show", I wasn't sure if I should go to the hospital or what to do. Thought of Patricia's teachings, so I stayed calm.
