He ended up dying in peace and tranquility with me on New Years Day at 5am - he told me he wanted to make it to 2020! :-) During the course of my dads time there especially toward the end in hospice care, a number of "little angels" would come in and check on him (and me) every few hours making sure everything was okay and that we were comfortable. They where amazing angelic "women" especially when I chatted with them about "why they work in this area where people are dying?" Their personal stories are heart wrenching and loving as to why they do what they do!! I want to say thank you to them with all my heart! Sandra immediately set us at ease as she walked us through how things work and was incredibly patient with us as we asked SO many questions. The testimonial videos on their site are fiercely genuine and reflect exactly how we felt when we were there--they truly welcomed our entire family into their home. 3) The vast community of people at Caring House that contribute to your loved one's experience is almost overwhelming, in the most quiet and calming way possible. Beyond the pros and highly trained staff running the place, there is a constant flow of volunteers (community members, nurses, spiritual leaders) that come to hang out, help out, make cookies, do chores, talk to visitors, coordinate event--it's amazing. 4) In the year since my mom passed away, the Caring House hasn't forgotten us. They continue to reach out as we move through the grieving process, and we so value their love and support. They have a true calling, and we have benefited greatly from their commitment. This was my first time utilizing hospice care for a loved one. I admittedly had false expectations…read moredriven by common sense as it relates to a very sensitive and delicate situation. The care quality was underwhelming to say the least. Agape poorly educated my family on what to expect during a most gut wrenching time. They set numerous expectations that were not met. Including and not limited to communication, follow up visits, warning signs and resolutions. The stand out interaction was when I sat with a nurse (who was new to the company) to field the many questions & concerns that I had. Through my inquiries, it seemed the Agape finally decided to act. I have zero experience in the medical field but through daily 20 hr shifts with my loved one I gained an immense amount of hands on experience. The Agape representative told me to my face that THEY DO NOT EXPECT US TO BE NURSES, just to be there to show love and care to my loved one. This was insulting and patronizing! Agape equipped us with a variety of medicines, dressings, equipment (including oxygen, a nebulizer, and suction device) though with no real direction on when & what to look for to use this mobile triage station. Mind you, I was not expected to be a nurse. The hypocrisy was palpable. I need to mention that we were never cautioned about bed sores. No mention of what they are, how they develop, what to look for and also, what to do about them. This was frustrating and infuriating. My belief is that people who are designated as 'end of life' should be treated, handled and loved the exact same way as when they enter this world. With such delicate care, close professional monitoring and a soft touch. Babies are not delivered in a hospital and set aside with instructions to the family to occasionally have a look to tell them that you love them. Agape missed the mark repeatedly and I can honestly say that I now have extensive experience with Hospice care, or lack there of. I will continue to share my story and educate those around me. Most of us will experience Hospice for a loved one and maybe ourselves. I will ensure to record detailed instructions in my own Advanced Health Care Directive along with additional personal wishes in my Will. This is to make it easier on my surviving loved ones who may be tasked with my care. This is responsible thing to do, for all parties. This is absolutely necessary because of companies like Agape Hospice and their lack of compassion, professionalism, accountability, execution and customer service. DO YOUR RESEARCH ABOUT HOSPICE. VET THE COMPANY. SEEK OUT REVIEWS. EDUCATE YOURSELF ON YOUR LOVED ONES SPECIFIC DISEASE OR CONDITION AND HOW TO CARE FOR AND INTERACT WITH THEM. I'm so grateful for Silverado and all the staff. It has turned out to be the perfect place for my mom. She is safe, engaged, fits right in amongst her peers and has the support of staff who understand what she is going through. Hard to believe a medical service can be as attentive as a fine dining restaurant, but that is what…read morethis was. We used Five Star for about five days. Medicare and Optum covered the hospice side. I paid separately for 24/7 caregivers through Sincere Care Services, which I chose because I wanted Cantonese and Mandarin speakers so my mother would be more comfortable. Five Star was recommended by the Optum physician on staff. Separately, a family member recommended them too, through a friend whose father had passed the week before. I checked their ratings on Yelp and Google before moving forward, and I am extremely happy with the service we got from start to finish. This is the point where you decide between more hospital intervention, which can be painful, and accepting the situation and moving to hospice. Hospice is the wedding coordinator for a peaceful death. Things can still go wrong even when you plan everything perfectly, but Five Star was there at every step to handle whatever came up. The rough sequence for anyone about to do this: 1. Decide on hospice. 2. Line up caregivers. They are separate from Five Star, but Five Star will point you to good ones. I wanted Chinese-speaking caregivers and Mark made it happen. 3. Coordinate with the hospital on transportation. 4. Be home to receive the supplies. 5. Be home when your loved one arrives. Have a bottle of distilled water ready for the oxygen machine. 6. Have the nurse and the caregiver both there so you can learn the comfort meds. 7. I used 24/7 caregivers on 12-hour shifts. I made a point of being there whenever a new caregiver came on, so I could walk them through the medications and get their phone number. Nurses came once a day to check on my mother since she was close. You do not have to be there the whole time, but I tried to be there for shift changes. One thing I wish I had watched more closely was bowel movements. My mother had been constipated since the hospital because she was not eating. Another tip: put together a playlist of beautiful music to play in the room. Otherwise it is silence, or your loved one is listening to caregivers talk and scroll on their phones. Even when your loved one is not responsive, they are still listening and drifting in and out. Tell them everything will be okay. Thank them for everything they did for you. I think it helps them go peacefully. Anytime I needed something, Mark was a text or a call away and he always answered. Again, they are the wedding coordinators for a loved one's passing, and they will do everything within their power to help you through it.

What can one say when everything you hope and wish for comes true!…read more My mother-in-law was a resident at Helping Hand for 4 years. She had been at Sunrise for one year prior, and despite the enormous amount that they charged; she was not getting the care she deserved! The loving staff at Helping Hand treated her like family, and I mean everything they could do to make her life pleasant was done. She thrived under the protection of Sue, who as an owner and care giver has more compassion than many nurses I have met. My father-in-law was also living there for 6 months before he had to go to skilled nursing care. He had been very ill and could not walk, talk or feed himself and had been in two nursing homes over a 6 year period. He recovered somewhat and did not need to be in the nursing home. We moved him into Helping Hand and he blossomed! The staff are VERY well trained, and Sue expects the best for your loved one. I can't say enough about the wonderful home they provide; we gathered every month for pot luck dinners, and visiting is encouraged often! A very pleasant environment , I hope she will have room for me if I ever need it!

I urge you to carefully consider this before contracting with any hospice provider. Unfortunately, our experience with Faith & Hope made an already painful situation even harder. In April 2025, my mom suffered a massive stroke. She was placed under Continuous Care (CC), which meant she required critical, around-the-clock nursing support. We were told her case would be re-evaluated after three days. However, the care was stopped in less than 24 hours and we were given only 4 hours' notice that services would be discontinued. At that point, it was clear our needs no longer aligned with Faith & Hope's philosophy of care. We scrambled to hire private help on extremely short notice. That night, my mom was in significant pain & experienced agitation. She needed her medication adjusted and an increase of the dosage frequency to help manage her symptoms. The next day, we made final attempts to Faith & Hope to reassess mom's eligibility for CC, even though the on-call night nurse, when we asked, did acknowledge that we were free to seek another hospice provider. We waited all day for a response from Faith & Hope, but heard nothing. Faced with another evening without adequate care, we transferred my mom to a different hospice. They gave us the right care without hesitation. Sadly, our mom passed away only 4 days later. The only positive experience we had with Faith & Hope was with Nurse Theresa. She cared for my mom with compassion, dedication and a true commitment to patient advocacy. Theresa's thoughtfulness and support helped guide my brothers and me through an incredibly challenging time, and for that we are deeply grateful.
