I am forever grateful to Terry Gass for saving my breastfeeding experience! My friend had given me her number prior to giving birth, but decided to start with Kaiser's lactation dept first since it was covered by insurance. The RN at Kaiser had me nursing, followed by pumping 8-12x- day. I did this for almost 3 weeks and got clogged ducts from OVERpumping (which I didn't know was a thing). In desperation I texted Terry for a consult and she came out 2 days later. In the meantime she gave me some advice to manage my issues. On the first day she asked me my goal which was to be able to breastfeed on demand. She taught me how to hand express, position my baby to nurse appropriately, and had me almost completely stop pumping which made me nervous but also relieved. She came to my house in Long Beach 3x in one week to make sure my baby was gaining weight appropriately. She was soo encouraging that really put my anxiety to ease. Where do I begin? MNN has been the best thing I have experienced as a first time mom! I signed up for Mommy & Me classes last July, my son Owen was only two weeks old at our first class! I was so nervous and anxious about it. I emailed Susanna and she assured me that it would be ok, they've had 3-4 week old babies in class before. I'm so glad I didn't change my mind. I met some amazing women who were experiencing everything I was going through. The first session (6 weeks) was so emotional and uplifting as well. Our teacher, Bryana, provided some good information and tools for our journey into motherhood. She also provided a space for us to talk about our highs and lows as well. Class always starts with a good morning song to each mama and baby. Followed by some more songs and tummy time for the little ones. Then we would go through highs and lows, and then the topic of the week. We touched upon every subject under the sun, if it wasn't a direct topic eventually a mom would bring something up. Early on I had some breastfeeding issues and went to one of the support groups. I met with Janae and I was the only one in class that day so it was nice to get that one-on-one interaction. She showed me different techniques for nursing and also weighed Owen before and after a nursing session. To see how much he's actually getting. I felt more confident in my breastfeeding journey after meeting with her. I also was able to text Janae with random other questions I had afterwards. Back to Mommy & Me, I continued for 3 consecutive sessions, each session was 6 weeks. I missed a few sessions when I transitioned back into work, trying to get my routine going. When I found out the May/June/July session was ending, I decided to go back one last time. I met some new mommies and babies and a new teacher, Emma. I was amazing to see the difference with all the babies being so mobile now. They add the ball pit in the center of the room once the babies are mobile. This review is for this facility's counseling services. I lost my son in September 2018 one day after my due date, he was stillborn on September 12, 2018. We were desperate for help after my son passed away and decided to go to Mother Nurture for a counseling session. As soon as we arrived I noticed that this place offers breastfeeding classes and they actually had one taking place right at the entrance! When my boyfriend opened the front door all I heard were other babies crying- something I never got to experience with my own baby- I never got to hear him cry OR breastfeed him. I was forced to walk through a room of new mothers happily breastfeeding their babies into a counseling session after losing my own baby. Our counselor also offered no help, she just sat there and looked at me with pity the entire time. At the end all she did was cut us off to charge us $150 and recommended a book for us to read. I could also hear the babies crying during my entire counseling session. This experience was extremely traumatic for me and this facility needs to work on their scheduling - it's not a good idea to bring a bereaved couple who just lost their baby into a room full of new mothers with their babies. read more

Terry is one of the kindest people I have met during my new mom breastfeeding experience. I was struggling and worried that my baby wasn't getting enough and I was also getting stressed out from pumping. I had been told by lactation consultants in the hospital to pump 8-12 times in 24 hours and I could barely get 8 pumps in with everything else going on. It was really making me frustrated and I felt like a failure. After meeting with Terry, she immediately made me feel at ease and gave me recommendations that have already made my life easier. She reassured me about my pumping output and gave me more confidence with breastfeeding. Being first time parents (and during a pandemic), it was important to me that we were able to take an in-person class. This was one of the only ones available to us, and I am so thankful for that. Vince was our instructor and we really enjoyed our lesson with him. He was very thorough and knowledgeable, he let us ask questions and didn't rush our lesson at all. What a wonderful resource during our first year as parents! We were a bit concerned about our baby's latch and a close friend recommended we reach out to Janae Grimshaw. She responded the same day and set up an appointment at home for an evaluation. Needless to say, she was FANTASTIC. I was referred to MNN's Terry Gass aka "Lactaction Consultant Guru" by my doctor and hospital. Terry is very well-known in South Bay Area with her high success rate of helping women breastfeed. She was able to show me and my baby how to latch on her first visit - for me it took 4-6 weeks to finally get the hang of breastfeeding and wean baby off the nipple shields (first time mom). My highest and warmest recommendation to seek Terry's help. She is incredibly understanding and knowledgeable. Also recommend seeking out the breastfeeding support group on the weekdays - it was a nice "get out of the house" experience, get answers to your breastfeeding questions that may come up and meet likeminded moms who go through the same challenges as you. One con is that MNN only accepts limited insurance so it was pay out of pocket experience for me but all worth the money and experience. Couldn't have done it without Terry's help! read more

I met with Valerie Petty for a private lactation consultation and then continued attending her breastfeeding support groups. Baby is now 6 months old and I can honestly say that if it weren't for Val, we would not still be breastfeeding. Her support, advice, and genuine care gave me the confidence I needed to continue breastfeeding. She also helped me let go of the shame and guilt I had for having to occasionally supplement. I also want to add that EVERYTHING she predicted came true. She told me the breastfeeding would get better as baby got bigger and it most certainly did. She also gave other hints/tricks and they were all game-changers. I also attend the Mommy & Me with Emma.
