The dog kennels are clean with a roof overhead and an igloo dog house for additional shelter with blankets inside. There is an open air play yard where socialized dogs can roam and interact with each other. Volunteer to Walk Dogs: Please consider adopting and/or VOLUNTEERING to help WALK a rescue dog. Walk-in volunteers are welcome when the rescue is open. Wed-Thur-Fri 10-2pm Sat 10-4pm Sun Noon-4pm Mon and Tue - Closed If you have a long drive to get to the rescue, you may want to call beforehand to confirm there is available staff to help bring a dog out to you. The Walk: There is a 2.5 mile (in one direction) levee adjacent to the rescue to walk the dogs with green pastures on one side and the Eel River on the other; pedestrians and dog walkers alike enjoy the beautiful scenery with the wide expanse of open space surrounding you! I have run into many dog walkers on this levee who shared that they adopted their dogs from Miranda's Rescue and are so happy with their furry companion now trotting happily beside them! Then when we thought a dog might be a good companion for a senior who all of a sudden was living alone - Miranda's helped us find the perfect dog...however the dog became potential tripping problem, we contacted Shannon and he was 100% there for us when we were forced to return the dog. Additionally what Miranda's/Shannon give back to the community is priceless....don't buy a dog from a breeder...there are many wonderful dogs/cats just waiting for someone to love them.....

I called to inquire and was sent the foster and adoption paperwork. As a homeowner, the turnaround time for my paperwork to be approved was a matter of hours. When I called to ask about meeting some of the adoptable dogs, they let me know that I could meet up to three dogs during a one hour appointment. My first visit was great, and I met three wonderful dogs. Shelter staff does temperament testing and each dog we met had adorable traits. I had an idea right away regarding the dog I was drawn to. I made a second visit up to the shelter to spend one hour with the one dog I couldn't stop thinking about. I enjoyed a nice visit with her in a back room of the shelter. Staff was so kind and offered me brushes to use on the pup during our visit. The third time I went to the shelter was to pick her up to foster her, and it only took five days for me to make the adoption official. I am so grateful for the tender care that the animals receive during their interim time before they find their forever homes. It's apparent that staff truly care about the work they do, and I'm grateful for them. I couldn't be happier with my experience there.

This shelter is the Only One in Humboldt county that takes in abandoned and stray animals and the placement rate at this facility is one of the highest in the country. They do not euthanize animals here to control the population and community placement in forever homes is their ultimate goal. Our newest family member was and is another great experience here at our county animal shelter. $35 bucks is all is costs, and another $5 donation for his brand new leash and collar that I chose. My new little buddy is ready for the new adventures at his new home. Great facility, good people who care about the animals and an inexpensive service charge makes it worthwhile and relatively easy to adopt a new fur friend here. This shelter is so concerned about proper placement that they will even let you return your new fur friend within the first 30 days without any questions if for some reason they do not mesh into their new household. 4.5 Stars - rounded up for their placement over euthanasia programs 00645
