    Love this vet (Chris Flores, Dr. Johns, Dr. Renner, et al)..all are amazing and caring vets who respond not only to our pets needs, but also are conscious of "our needs" as parents asking questions and needing answers....they are patient and kind....have gone to Ferndale Vet for over 30 years...never been disappointed (including the office in Fortuna)

    Our dog was attacked by another and this was the vet we were sent to by the offending dog's owner. We originally saw Jennifer and another lady she had there assisting her (a lovely curly haired blonde, let me add both these two ladies were wonderful, and came in after hours to assist the unfortunate emergency). ***KEEP IN MIND, WE HAD NEVER SEEN THIS VET, NOR KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THEM.*** There was a unsympathetic rude skinny tall curly haired blonde male with glasses that was going out of his way to purposely block us from seeing our Pomeranian through the doors window (whose rear leg was out of socket along with a few decent sized lacerations in the inner thigh area and deep down into the muscle, plus a decent bite wound on his head). This man was asked to leave, not sure why he was being as rude as he was; but i really appreciated feeling like the two ladies were sympathetic to what my family was going through. On the follow up however, even though paperwork was completed by the offending dog owner, and should have had notes along with the file; there were none. Even though we spoke to them and told them the situation, the people there were hesitant and did not inform us that we would be the ones charged until after the appointment was completed, even though prior to they were made aware of the situation; not to mention all this information was completed and situation understood on the first visit. After hearing about the vets clerical error, i called to find out why they did not tell us upfront that they would be charging us until after the appointment. They lied and said they didn't have the offending dog owners information, EVEN THOUGH this is the veterinarian that the offending dog owner goes to regularly, as well they are very familiar with and friends with the offending dog's owner... To cut this shorter, i called in to ask why they did this and to check for the information, as well the offending dogs owner had called and left a message... ALL i asked was for them to make sure there was indeed a message from the offending dogs owner, as weekends are the only available time we have to handle such a situation and if anyone else is living in todays not so fruitful life, one would, or should understand not everyone can afford to just shovel out $100, regardless of the amount, it's apparent they are very unorganized and only care about the money, not the animals or their owners, nor the situation that brought them there. Allie was the name of the girl i spoke to and though i hadn't yelled or cussed at her, rather than caring about what i was going through, she instead over talks and cuts me off several times, tells me that i'm "not treating HER well"... i mean the audacity of this person... how disgusting can you be to react in such a manner... after that, even though she told me, and i kindly accepted, that her manager couldn't call me back until Monday, i then get a call from him...informing me they received the offending dog owner's message and that our money would be refunded today. Except then he was very rude as well, a lot of "uh'huhs" "k's" just very unprofessional and NOT customer oriented... NEVER in my life have i ever been so rude to a customer, uncaring, rude... just downright unprofessional... it's really just too bad to see people act so selfishly... to not try and relate to why someone is upset, to not even try to understand where they are coming from, and then on top of it all play the victim when it's THEIR JOB to help others.... idk, maybe those two have something personal going on, maybe Allie is just a manipulative person... all i know is businesses should be upfront with people, not conning them by telling them one thing and then doing another especially. I would have NEVER done what these people did today, and it's people like those two that make this world the way it is... too bad we don't just have a bunch more people like Jennifer and the gal that assisted her that night of urgency. IF YOU GO HERE, MAKE SURE YOU GET JENNIFER TO HELP YOU! She was truly amazing, down to earth, kind, caring... the rest she unfortunately has to deal with... well... i hope God blesses them so they might learn compassion, patience, understanding, unselfishness, kindness; ya know, all that is good right and true...

    My 7-year-old English Pointer Charlie had a small cough and was breathing slightly more rapidly…read morethan normal, so I had made an appointment with his regular vet. His symptoms had not increased much, so I assumed that it was a mild situation. On Sunday, 4/5/26, he suffered what I thought was a seizure. I called my vet, whose answering service connected me to Arcata Animal Hospital. I left a message, and they called me back within minutes. We were able to make it there quickly, and the staff was ready to see us and had already started a file on his situation. By then, Charlie had seemed to stabilize, but was clearly still in some kind of distress. From the moment that we walked in the door, you could tell that the staff was understanding, genuinely cared, and were going to give him the best care possible in a clean and modern hospital. They asked to keep him for a few hours, and I went home. During the 5 hours or so that he was there, I received 4 phone calls with updates and asking for approval to do more testing, which I appreciated so much. I was able to take him home that night, and while a little groggy, he seemed to be in good shape. In addition to providing me a copy of the clinical summary and several different articles about his results, the staff also emailed me a referral letter and copies of his X-rays before I had even made it home. They also called me early the next morning to check in on Charlie, discuss scheduling the additional cardiac testing I had approved, and to get a copy of his medical records from his regular vet. While the diagnosis of left-sided heart failure was unexpected and not what I had hoped for, I am thankful to have an answer and to know what to expect. Dr. Bartlett and her team are nothing short of amazing, and I can't recommend this veterinary team more highly.

    Kind, compassionate, reasonably-priced care. I have two reactive dogs, and Dr. Dossett sees them…read moreboth. I called around to all of the vets in Arcata before I moved to the area. My Doberman is people reactive and will bite, plus he has complicated health issues which sometimes require frequent visits. AAH exam fee is $80, but a recheck is much cheaper which definitely eased my mind since there have been times we have had 3 appointments a month. AAH is a fear-free facility, and I appreciate the care that they show with their fearful and reactive clients. I want to specifically mention their team of vet techs who have been incredible. Sarah has sedated my Doberman twice. Even though he is muzzled, I recognize that sedating an animal who is actively trying to bite you is a stressful experience. She has been calm and always treated my pet with so much love and respect. Get established with this practice right away and they will always get you in when your pet needs to be seen. The combination of their hours, emergency vet fees, and scheduling ability made this an easy choice for me and my special needs dog. Some of the reviews mention not having accurate cost break down. I haven't found that to be true at all. Vet care is unfortunately incredibly expensive, but I don't think that is an issue with this practice in particular.
