They are gangsters that pick and choose who they will really help. Was taking my dog there, but never felt like they really cared. During Covid you can't go in with the pet and I don't think they were nice to him. I think they were charging me for things they didn't do. And most recently they beat around the bush for a month about the lump he had. Didn't answer my phone calls. Didn't return my messages and my dog died. They were extremely unhelpful and nanchallant about it all too. Dr Bloom said, "Well at least it happened at your home and not here." I know they could have helped but they didn't want to. I took my dog here on 1/7/24 when this office was the on-call emergency vet for the area. I thought my dog had a uti and thought maybe it could wait until the next day. The front desk person I spoke to encouraged me to bring my dog in right away and I'm glad that they did, because it ended up being a bladder stone and not a uti. I'm super grateful for this office as my dog had clearly been suffering, unbeknownst to me, for quite some time. You can tell they are all big animal lovers there and I really appreciate them helping my sick pup. read more

With one dog chronically I'll, another who is a senior, and two divas, we have had many appointments at BAH. We adore Dr. Folden! I'm pretty sure my golden is her favorite patient. I used to take my pets to Eureka veterinary clinic, but unfortunately they shut down and Broadway animal hospital absorbed their clients. In my experience Broadway doesn't accommodate deaf clients by responding to emails. Their prices are what you would normally expect. I give good reviews or bad reviews I usually don't waste my time reviewing mediocre. So it was impressive or disappointing, and Broadway Animal Hospital was on the impressive list for sure. My Dog recently had a horrible diagnosis and the Dr. was able to diagnose the situation with minimal testing and cost. The staff was compassionate and helpful and that meant a lot to me during a sad time. Blue was my best friend for 10 years and losing him was hard. Being guided by experience was relieving. It is sad to watch a business slip from a hero to a zero. I'm still struggling (for weeks) to get them to resolve problems they created with trying to order prescriptions through their website. So far I've wasted a lot of time with multiple visits (they were 1/2 hour late even starting our last appointment), phone calls (where you are forced to listen to their announcements and self-promotion before you maybe get a live person but more often voicemail) and email (at least 6 so far). It is a shame. I've spent several thousand dollars here (I've even brought flowers thanking them tor great care in the past) only to feel like I'm the problem when they are the ones making mistakes and lying to me. read more

Broadway Animal Hospital - Got to love a place with humor! - Veterinarians Near Me - Eureka, California

I am new to the area and do not have a vet I am comfortable with up here. I went to Broadway Animal Hospital to pick up some flea medication for my cat and dog. They do not carry the regular Frontline or Advantage. They have some stuff called Vectra. Although I had never heard of it, I asked the girl if it was any good and she said it was the best, and the one they push the hardest. So I paid $20-30 for each pet for a ONE MONTH SUPPLY. Needless to say, both of my pets have fleas worse than ever!!! My poor cat has to wear a cone on his head to keep from scratching himself till he bleeds. And I can't put any other flea stuff on him for a month :( they wouldn't even sell me a capstar (the pill that kills fleas for 24 hours) They said you had to have an appointment and a prescription, even though every other vet in the country sells them over-the-counter for five dollars!! These people are just out to get your money in anyway they can, and now my poor animals are paying the price! read more

Right now I am completely annoyed over Dr. Tavares blaming me for "communication" issues when I was the one speaking clearly with staff on "extensive sanity clipping" needed. When I was billed for a full office visit after going in to just discuss the clipping problem I was really unhappy, and asked to speak with the office manager, then unavailable. I finally called THEM today, and the charge for the 2nd a full office visit/exam I did not want or expect was refunded, cheerfully by staff. Which I appreciate. I took my dog here because he was sick. He was not eating or drinking and very lethargic. The ONLY good thing is the hours of this place. Short and Simple, I spent over $800 with no answer as to what was wrong with my dog. Also the vet tech was rude an insensitive, she made comments about what a cry baby my sick dog was. End result I took my pooch to another vet, an less than $10 de-worming. I am actually very upset that they took me for a bunch of money. The vet I ended up at did not know why they would order 3 of the most expensive tests without first doing some very routine treatments. read more

We needed to have our our tomcat put to sleep the day after Thanksgiving. We called another place first but they were apparently closed for the holiday so we called Broadway Animal Hospital. They were open and were able to set up an appointment for us within 3 hours which was quite a relief. We arrived 5 or 10 minutes before the appointment but they quickly gave us a room. Staff was kind, considerate and efficient. Our cat was quickly sedated. Once the sedative was in full effect Dr. Otto came in and delivered the final injection. Within a minute or two of that it was over. Dr. Otto was very caring and compassionate in this most upsetting of circumstances for us. I don't think it could have gone better considering the situation. I was especially happy with their availability during a holiday weekend. That was the last of our cats. Should we get another one we'll be happy to take him or her to Broadway Animal Hospital. read more

Broadway Animal Hospital is Great. We've been seeing Veterinarians from Ferndale Vet for many years, they were the place I could get medical care for an aggressive dog that we loved so much! They also boarded him for us. Now, Ferndale Vet--also available in Fortuna (we have had appointments there as well) has purchased Broadway Animal Hospital in Eureka and we are so happy to have them closer to home for our new dog. They are also happy to board Winston for us, very reasonably too. In Humboldt County there is no better place for the care of your pets! All the doctors have extensive experience and are very confident in caring for pets of all types. Our new dog also happens to be an aggressive type. They always take his leash, walk him around the office before giving him his shots and/or exam. Never had a problem. Very, very happy with them! read more

Although, I never did take my cats here, I was going to board them here and everyone was so attentive and helpful and gave me good information and answered my concerns about vaccinations prior to boarding. I think you would get good care here and the staff was very pleasant and loved animals. People were really chatty in the waiting room and plenty of folks were being helped. I cannot speak highly enough about this office. Everyone is professional and knowledgeable. I have seen both Dr. Otto and Dr. Tavares and Chris the vet tech too. They are all amazing. During the last months of my senior dogs life, they went out of their way to make sure she was comfortable. The office was about to close on Friday night when they got in her test results and they personally drove the medication to my house so my 13 year old dog wouldn't have to be in pain over the weekend. They were extremely kind and compassionate when i finally made the call to bring her into the office to be put to sleep. I called last minute and they got me in within a 2 hours and let me spend as much time as i needed with her in the room. I have also taken my younger dog to them for routine check ups and other "oppsie" visits that retrievers sometimes have. They have always been quick to diagnose. Zero stars My heart breaks again... I don't know many people who have to cremate their dogs twice-- But I do. The heartache. Two months ago, I unfortunately had to emergency euthanize Juno, as she had reached the end of her days prematurely to a Brain tumor. It was the hardest thing I've done, possibly in my whole life... Today, two months since her death, I was curious to why I had not received any ashes or word about her from the vet. I found out today, after calling them, that my dog is STILL sitting in a freezer at the vet after two months! She still sits there, unable to go to the next world because Broadway animal vetrenary clinic- they even called me, request payment, receive it promptly, after telling me how my dog needs to "be shipped because she is taking up too much space in the freezer" . And then, to my dismay, my animal is forgotten. So, she sits there, Dead, frozen... And I'm asked what I would like to do. How can this happen? This place should be closed down for unethical business practice. How could they dare?! They gave me the option, Of a refund And to come Pick up my frozen dog. I'm sick. What is an animal lover to do... I am trying to get support to correct this error. I am so beside myself. It is as if someone has ripped out the staples from my broken heart... I am Forced to relive the most horrible moment of my life... Because eureka broadway animal hospital can't do their job?! Absolutely love this vet. We began at Eureka Vet, and when they closed they transferred our records there. After our first appt to get seen as a regular patient there, we were sold. Dr. Tavares is so gentle and kind. She answers all of our questions without making us feel rushed, or stupid. Our dog has heartbreakingly recently been diagnosed with Congestive heart failure, and they go above and beyond to help us, by not only helping us get the best and most care possible and doing everything they can to keep costs as low as possible (which seems unheard of these days), to calling often just to check up and see how my dog is doing, and handling the medications, etc. You're welcomed kindly, and feel completely cared for when there. This is an establishment you can trust. And I can't possibly recommend Dr. Tavares anymore!! Dr. Flores was also very pleasant to work with, on a day that our regular VMD was out. read more

We went here on an emergency basis in the middle of the night because they were the ones on call Memorial Day weekend. Our old dog was very sick, and we had to make that terrible, heart-wrenching decision to do what was best for her and end her pain. Even though we'd never met them before, these vets made us feel very comforted and supported on one of the worst nights of our lives. I am so grateful that they took over the business, because I dealt with the former owner years ago, and he was not very compassionate at all. We hope we never have to use the emergency vets again, but if we do, we would be happy to go here again. We could tell they really cared about our dog and about us and the pain we were in. They did their best to keep our bill as low as possible. We are very blessed to have them in our community! read more

Here is what she wrote: "I'm sorry to see the negative reviews about Broadway Animal Hospital. These reviews were written in 2012, before the new owners purchased the business, and Yelp won't remove them. I hope Yelp users will keep that fact in mind. I started taking my dog to Broadway Animal Hospital in September 2013. She was very sick and the previous vet did not catch the problem It turns out she had a tumor on her spleen. She became very sick in November, and I took her to Dr. Otto on a Friday. Even though the practice is not normally open on Saturdays, Dr. Otto elected to do the surgery the following day. Good thing, because the tumor was large, and had ruptured and begun to bleed into the abdominal cavity. The doctor has gone far beyond what I've seen any other vet do for any pet. She carefully explained the surgery and possible outcomes, spent 2.5 hours in the surgery (which was successful) and also offered to spend Saturday night at the office, sleeping on the floor or the exam table, just to make sure my dog was OK during the night. Broadway Animal Hospital is just great, the people there are great. Don't believe those nasty reviews. The entire staff is helpful, knowledgeable, and REAL. I adopted 3 baby male dogs in May and took them straight from their birth mommy at 6 weeks to BAH. They immediately de-fleaed them and gave their first wellness check. Thankfully, they were all healthy. They have now had all vaccines so we have had several visits and each time we are treated like royalty..or better yet, like family. I can't believe how kind and how reasonable their fees are. This place changed ownership, by the way, in Dec 2012 i think t was, so anything you read before that time does NOT APPLY to this new ownership. I wish YELP would remove those terrible reviews because they simply mean nothing now. It is not fair to Dr. Otto and the rest of the staff. When little Pinto fell through my outdoor stairs, i thought he might have broken a leg. Took him right in and they had an ORTHOPAEDIST check him out! Imagine that..xrays, the whole bit, and thankfully nothing was broken. I was amazed they had an orthopod on staff and i am sorry i don't remember his name but he was wonderful with my little guy. Even took me in the back and explained the xrays to me and let me take a picture of the xray. I have recommended two friends with dogs and they both have moved here from their previously long-time vets and are much happier. In fact, Dr. Otto literally saved the life of one of my friends dog over the Thanksgiving weekend...even stayed the night at the office with the dog after she operated on him. My experiences here have always been great. They take great care of my two cats. They answer my questions clearly and I feel I have always gotten great service from them. They are gentle and kind to my pets. The women at the front desk were very attentive with me and the veterinarian was patient with my scared cat and talked me through the whole check up. Also, the waiting area and the exam room which I was in with my pet on a few occasions, were very clean. We have been seeing Dr Renner @ Ferndale Vet. A trip out of town prompted a visit to Broadway Animal, which was recently taken over by Ferndale Vet. We met with Dr Jennifer, and was comfortable with her knowledge and advice. So much so, that we ordered a few things during our cats stay (look later in the review) such as a change in flea control (advantage has failed a lot of folks lately-Those damn Humboldt fleas thrive on advantage), as well as complying with her suggestion regarding some plaque removal from our cats teeth. (a minor surgery w/anesthesia). All is very well, Artie has said he feels much better-no more itching/scratching and feeling better about eating with those cleaned up chompers! All is well on the vet side. All is also well on the boarding side. They have "Kitty Condo's" compared to cramped cages. The condos are about 4' X 4' X 7-8' high, allowing for a couple of platforms to rest on, as well as a video CCTV showing a loop of birds etc. Windows to the outside are also a great add. I used to have a very good 'cat attendant' but his prices have gone to $30 for each stop. So to feed 2 X daily, its a $60 day. This condo cost about $22 per day, and we brought his blankets, a couple of toys, a scratcher, and his favorite food. ALMOST as nice as being home, plus he had some other cats to exchange stories with. A good choice! read more

NEVER TAKE ANY ANIMAL TO THESE PEOPLE...THEY ARE MONEY HUNGRY AND NOT COMPASSIONATE.........I am a pet-sitter and took one of my client's dogs there hoping to find a really excellent vet in our town. currently i drive to the next town. the women behind the desk were inattentive. the vet tech didn't introduce himself to me or the dog and tried to insert the thermometer in her rectum without asking me to hold her. when she turned to stop him, he got a muzzle and i let him...i am still mad at myself...she weighs 40lbs and had never had a problem with any other vet. he and the vet were really excited about their table that lifted up mechanically from the floor. this is one of those places that tries cover their deficiencies with equipment. i had told them that she had back or hip pain. the vet put her hips through an extreme range of motion that caused her to whimper. once again kicking my self for passivity. then the vet told me she had crepitus in her hips. i was a nurse so i know what that word means. nothing more than my telling him she had pain there. then the vet said to the tech that her ears, eyes and mouth were normal. i said how can you tell you didn't look. the vet said on external exam. i asked him to look at her teeth. he said he couldn't she was muzzled. the vet and the tech left. 2 big men that had to hurt a little dog to tell me nothing. i expected the vet back but instead one of the front desk women came with an estimate for x-rays for her hips that were prohibitively expensive. her other problem was a chronic cough. the vet's differential for that was either an kennel cough or collapsing trachea. once again really expensive x-rays or antibiotics. if i had followed their recommendations i would have spent more than $600.00 dollars there. they also offered antibiotics but this was a chronic recurring cough not infectious. so back to my good vet's....he examined her on the hood of my car in case she actually had kennel cough..thereby protecting his other patients...no kennel cough...she followed him into the clinic off leash and he showed me the exam for collapsing trachea..if you tickle their throats you can usually elicit a cough. hers turned out to be allergic. this happened a year ago and i have tried to forget how i did not stand up for my client but broadway animal hospital keeps calling me. aggressive marketing is also how they make up for their shoddy work ....they talked my friend's 80 year old mother into spending $1000.00 on a 19 year old cat. after that episode told everyone i know and there are a lot of people in the animal rescue community here in eureka. my dog client is fine. we got the allergen out of her environment and she took a little prednisone. not even in that vet at broadways differential. they called me again last week and tried to sell me another un-necessary product...... i said this is it.....yelp.com here i come. read more

My hamster was so sick when I brought him to Broadway Animal Hospital, I thought he was going to have to be euthanized. But after taking x-rays, Dr. Tavares diagnosed him with congestive heart failure. She gave him oxygen, fluids, and prescribed a diuretic that worked miracles. We were able to spend an extra month of quality time with him, and when it was time to put him to sleep, the staff got me in within a few hours. The thing that sets this clinic apart is how much they supported me through my hamster's illness. I called a lot, and Dr. Tavares patiently gave me advice, and never made me feel like I was calling too much. The entire staff treated us with courtesy and compassion. My cat used to go to cutten animal clinic but they closed so I was told to take my cat and my dog to get their rabies shot to the broadway animal clinic when they came due because they would have their files. I go there and they wanted to charge me 100 bucks to get blood work for a rabies booster shot? seriously? thats ridiculous and they seem to be more about the $$$$ then about the health and safety of the animal. if you have the cats past files then there should be no issues getting the booster shot. DUH THE CAT DONT HAVE RABIES WHEN THE CAT HAD THE SHOT 3 YEARS PRIOR BEFORE CUTTEN CLOSED. So now what do we do? my dog who is a service dog is now going to be denied a rabie shot when he comes due in fall 2018? and if that happens I will report this office to the shelter!!!! I was told this office has my dog and cats files after cutten closed so therefore there is no reason to be denied and asked to pay a crap load of dollars before getting a booster shot. I have plans on getting blood work done on my dog for other reasons but I refuse to take him here. not how they are going after people for money just to get a booster shot, I dont want my dog to end up dead, like my dads cat did for no reason at all. read more
