I just took the airport train home to Norristown a few days ago. Thankfully, it was on time but it is not equipped to handle one piece of luggage. I am extremely fit and, as I was trying to get my luggage down the steps in Norristown, the doors closed on me several times. Don't you have cameras or sensors to see that people are still walking off the train? The European trains are not only clean and spacious for luggage, but cameras and sensors all over. I took better airport trains in Seattle. Philly is like a third world train system. read more

I often wind up riding the train by myself. I have seen the conductors not care if the train is overcroweded for certain events. Last week there were woman that piled up on top of me by accident. When I asked for help they did not care. The conductors often do not scan my card because they do not care about getting the money or doing their job. It often seems like that most of the conductors just want to go home. Some of the men are nice but is is often the case that some of the people are nice and some are not. read more

My train has been late every single day! Thank you for the most unreliable service! Right now it's delayed by 15 minutes. I wish i could tell you that this was a 1 time thing but NO septa is delayed for me almost every day! Thank you so fucking much!! read more

While researching places and things for an upcoming trip to Philly, I discovered that I would qualify for a free SEPTA transit pass. I made an appointment to get one on my first morning in Philly. Applying for the pass was speedy and easy, and the staff was helpful. (And, it's good for 4 years, so I'll be set when I return!) Pass in hand, I was ready to explore Philly, and boy did I! While the SEPTA operation could certainly improve some things, I found the modes of transportation I used (bus, train, and trolley) very efficient, frequent enough, and they got me very close to where I wanted to go in all cases. I was impressed with how extensive the network is and how many hours the buses run...well into the night. And, how many people actually use public transit in Philly, compared to my home city of San Diego. I learned from a fellow bus rider that there is a transit app that will help you navigate any transit system, and I found that app tremendously helpful as the route maps that SEPTA are not helpful. Yes, each line has its own brochure, which IS, of course, helpful. But, what SEPTA needs to make available to the public, and in an easy format, is a master system map showing all connecting lines and modes of transport. Had I not known about the transit app, I would probably have had a difficult time navigating the transit system. One thoughtful employee, a young woman at the Suburban Station made, sure that I got on the correct rail line, by looking for me at the correct platform, before she took her break. read more

SEPTA Access/CCT has perfected the modern public-service insult: arrive late, behave irritated, charge more, and call it access.

Septa is trash at this point. Ever since the pandemic they fell completely off. Can only rely on septa maybe 35% of the time. Cant even depend on a quick train ride anymore. 50% of the time I catch the sub or blue line it's delayed just like the buses if not worst. Before the pandemic septa was good but after Covid I guess management and drivers got lazy. i don't see septa lasting long if they don't better their service. most people skip payment for this exact reason, they don't take their jobs seriously anymore. read more

I take the regional rail train every single day 7 day's a week to Philadelphia and back to Lansdale area and sometimes I pay cash on the train or sometimes I will use my debit card and today I went to use my debit card and for whatever reason it wasn't working on the train and I had No cash on me at all. And I told the guy working on the train that I'm having an issue with my card and he said ok I'll come back in a couple minutes and I said ok fine thank you so about 5 minutes later he came back and I said I'm trying to figure out what is wrong in my bank app and right away without even asking questions he kicked me off the train he didn't even give me a chance hardly to try and get to the bottom of it and I think that was the craziest thing ever to just kick a customer off the train without even giving me a chance to come up with other means to pay the fair for the train so I could get back home! I mean he could have given me some more time to get the problem solved instead of kicking me off the train at Fern Rock station! I've never had this problem before but I've seen other people with this problem and weren't kicked off the train for it!! I told him that i ride the train 7 days a week and never have a problem with paying my fair!! So now SEPTA just lost a customer because i will just start driving again instead of taking the train because this is freaking absolutely ridiculous!! I hope the government and whoever else stops bailing SEPTA out every time they start begging for money and they just go completely Out of business!! They deserve it!! read more

Septa Regional Rail is imploding before our very eyes. After sticking the PA tax payers with a 1/4 billion dollar bill, they can't even get a train to make it to the end of the line without breakdown and cancelling, leaving the passengers stranded at the station. Trains are failing and stranding passengers at an alarming rate and rail travel in Phila can not be depended on. Sad state of affaires read more

SEPTA REGIONAL RAIL in the PHILA area may well be the WORST train service in the entire country. I think the percentage of times it is on time is less than 10%! I generally take the train prior to the one I actually need because the service is so terribly unreliable! The other night I was returning from the PHILA light show and the 1003 PM PAOLI/ THORNDALE line I was trying to use was 75 minutes late on my arrival and actually got to SUBURBAN STATION 90 minutes late!! at 1130PM! I likely could have walked home in that time duration or taken an AMTRAK to NYC to visit with my son who lives there. If this service were not so pathetic it would be comical. Unfortunately it is no joke to the thousands of patrons trying to plan excursions into PHILA CENTRAL and back to the suburban area to say nothing of getting to the airport in a timely manner. The system needs to be either scrapped and rebuilt or upgraded with new trains/ tracks/ signals/ computers whatever. Somebody please do something to make this system work properly ! read more

septa is horrible and not reliable sometimes the bus don't come because they have no drivers

I take the L train to go to work everyday. It's the worst experience ever. Never on time, very dirty. The train stops between stops and stays there 10 minutes without letting you know what's the problem or giving you an estimate time of leaving. On the app it's says that train will come in 5 minutes, and it comes in 15 minutes. read more

Septa is the worst transportation system. I have been on a train for nearly two hours for a 50 min ride. I don't care if there are power issues. How about you don't stop at every stop if you are THAT behind?? I have now missed my work meeting and it is all Septa's fault. Maybe they should put the money towards infrastructure and not exec salaries and unnecessary company cars. Septa wastes more money than the government. They should all be fired. Septa is the reason no one wants to work in the city. Do better, Philly. Your public transportation is horrible. read more

SEPTA needs new management. Crowded Airport platforms, and no announcements, signs or any attempt to communicate that trains are limited to one track due to a problem at 30th Street (neither the 4:37 or 5:07 showed). Got the info by calling SEPTA - at least they answered. read more

The Bus Operators are so privileged and disrespectful.' I spoke to a woman this morning and she said nothing back but had her nose up and pursed lips. Then spoke to the older White Gentlemen onboard or boarding. And as I got off she stayed parked at the stop way after I walked in front of the Bus which I never see and felt like that was another jab... I've noticed they strike against the people almost every year complaining about not enough pay and have cut almost 50% of the routes or more since the 90s when they had pleasant drivers. Closing doors on people etc. They are the worst! read more

I'm from NYC. I recently visited the City of Brotherly Love. I used the Market-Frankford Line and the Regional Rail West Trenton line. The Market Frankford line is a hot mess. When I took the train, there were people smoking weed and playing loud music with profanity. I also saw kids play fighting. When I got on the elevator at 30th Street station, I saw a hypodermic needle on the floor. The Regional Rail train was very clean and comfortable. However, it's also very infrequent. Outside of rush hour, most lines run every 2 hours. If you're in the Philadelphia area, pay the extra money and take Uber. read more

I'm not mad about the inefficiency of SEPTA I'm the city, that's something I've come to expect and accept. What I'm mad about is the the schedule is telling me the bus is coming, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes from now and it never comes. All I want is some transparency so I know how I can get home. I'm tired of waiting on strangers corners for thirty plus minute and being gaslit by both google maps and the SEPTA app. It ridiculous and y'all should know better. I so badly want to support public transit, but SEPTA constantly makes it difficult. read more

I'm not even giving a star but I have to give one to post this. These workers are terrible. It's like they scrape the bottom of the barrel for all the sludge and these people are who they come up with. There was a guy laying on the steps dying and the worker laughed at him. I couldn't get a good pic of her face but she is just a horrible person. I hope my kids never have to go anywhere near where she works. They hire people like this keep raising the fare and slow down the schedules. And we just continue to be ok with this. Shame on all of us. I know I use it to get to work to but I'm thinking maybe if we laced up our walking shoes or used uber for a while which is just as bad I know but then maybe we would send a message that they need to do better instead of not even giving the bare minimum. read more

I would like to give Septa 0 stars as this is a very corrupt company. When you call ahead to ask prices for different trips the people at septa don't know what they're talking about and you get money take from your travel wallet for Septa employee mistakes. I've been on the phone with amateur septa employees who put in my requests for crediting my account t back for the money your company keeps stealing from me, but the requests fall on deaf ears and they end up stealing more money without resolving past issues, I'm going to head down to 1234 Market this week due to their ineptitude in resolving money matters, or I really should be honest and say they are stealing money from the public. A reminder to all, check your trip history and make sure this company is not taking money from you every day. read more

such a shame that this is the only way of public transportation by bus in this city. The drivers are ignorant pos and septa has the nerve to keep raising the fare. you can't even walk down in the subways because it smells like a dirty bathroom. So pathetic. read more

The subway's useful but has problems. The renaming they're doing for the lines is confusing for visitors and first-time users. The automated system for announcing stops on-board the train was announcing the wrong stops. The machines had trouble scanning my phone (Apple Pay). The trains move quickly because they don't stay in each station for very long--but that also means it's easy to miss your stop. read more

Septa - Public Transportation Near Me - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Most of the bus drivers are nice, but the ones that are not are SO bad that it gives the entire organization a bad name. These are the ones that make it a habit of acting in the most off-putting, grossest of ways. The ones who not only speed, cut off cars, curse at the top of their lungs at drivers with a bus load of passengers, they then turn around and act like they can do and say whatever they want, be as disrespectful as they want and it's okay because nobody is around to see it. You don't know these people - never saw them before, but they rope you into an argument you didn't ask for and do everything they can, in the space of a minute or two, to drag you down to their level. If you're not careful, a two minute interaction with a driver like this can ruin your entire day. It's very unlikely, but my hope is that the Septa drivers with the huge chips in their shoulder can heal and learn how to approach their career in a professional manner, even if that means leaving the more unpleasant aspects of their personalities at the door. We will all be better off for it. read more

I decided to challenge myself and walk 10 minutes from my Jersey house to the PATCO line to 8th and Market, then switch to the Market Frankford Line to get to 30th Street Station and AMTRAK it to Boston, and then on to Portland, Maine by bus. The good news is that I survived. Not going to lie, between all the crime and bad news lately, it was a bit nerve wracking, even though it was only 7:00 AM when I arrived, and on the way home it was about 7:00 PM. As a solo female traveler, I was very wary. Everything smelled like bodily functions. On the plus side, it was $2.50 each way for a couple of stops. read more

busses and trains always either canceled or delayed and the app is hot garbage too. expect the commute to take at least 20-30 mins longer

Philadelphia does have a fairly extensive transit system, but I wasn't impressed with it. The airport train was reasonably efficient, but had an extra charge, albeit not as outrageous as at some cities. The different trains were poorly integrated, and one had to walk from one station to another in some instances. The light rail wasn't working when I tried and a bus was running instead, but not on time. A train station closed me out before the last train of the day. The system was old, and the stations dirty. I wished I hadn't spent the money on day passes and instead had just gotten and airport ticket and walked. As a visitor who went multiple places that were very much on the train lines, they just weren't that helpful to me. Additionally, the card they have was quite strange and seemed set up as a quasi debit card, which is not what I'm looking for. If anything, I would want them to simply accept payments directly as some of the more advanced payment systems do, but this seems like an explicit step away from that. read more

After a busy day of travel, my wife and I needed to take the SEPTA Regional Rail to Warminster from Terminal E at PHL. Of course we jumped on the wrong train that was headed to the Philly Center. The conductor saved us, she was top notch, loud (in the most positive way imaginable) and so helpful. She told us what was the best station to get off of to catch the Warminster line. She helped us get out bearings and made sure we were good before departing Suburban Station. I can't say enough on what a positive experience came of what could have become a tiring day negative one. As for the SEPTA train, well maintained, the conductors voices on stops were better then the automated ones and at no time did we feel unsafe during our trip. Train was on schedule, again much appreciated after a travel day. Thank You read more
