I absolutely LOVE Sephora and go into one in every city I am in. I am Maui raised and have worked in the retail service industry my whole life. I have to say, most of the staff are friendly but a few gals have THE worst attitude! To the point where I would not want to go back. Being a bit starved for products as us Maui girls are, I force myself to make the drive from upcountry to Ka'anapali to go to Sephora from time to time. Marissa and a few other snotty girls need a total attitude adjustment! I spend $80-$150 every time I step foot in the store (not to mention what I buy online) and when I dare ask for a sample of something (only have ever asked for ONE thing to try), I get the most annoyed look and attitude as if I am asking for everything in sight. I don't understand why the tude?!!! Not just from Marissa but from the other manager and another sales associate, who i can't remember their names. Isn't the whole point of trying new thing to get us to buy them in the future...which always works right?! Anywho, I just think the store is a bit lacking with the inventory so the least the store should have is GREAT helpful accommodating and upselling customer service! Only Sephora on island and store policy indicates they know that. Also, did not find anything I was looking for that might be available in other Sephora locations. Call before you go because they may not have what you are looking for. Local lady sales associate was nice and deserves better management and support. read more

I'm giving this store 1 star and it only goes to Tyra. The thing about the sales associates is if they suspect you're local they won't treat you nicely and as if you would steal from them. Not even a single smile from any of them except Tyra. And there's this one associate with an earpiece that keeps checking me out and Tyra as if we're doing something suspicious. She keeps walking around us like 5 times. It's my first visit at the store bc I usually buy online. And for the lack of inventory while overstaff they should at least be NICE. While I try to checkout at the register, the cashier was very helpful and looked happy to serve the "tourist " in front of me. And when I got my turn, all smiles are gone. I love this store! The girls who work here are always so nice and helpful: say hello and goodbye, ask you if you need help, sit with you to find products that work. I came in today to look at Tarte brand foundation. I told Samantha I wanted to replace my Bare Minerals foundation and she knew immediately it was because Tarte used natural ingredients. She described the 3 lines Tarte has. After discussing my skincare needs, we decided to try one. She brought me to the makeup station, gave me a wonderful coconut makeup remover wipe, then scanned my face with a fancy machine to find my perfect color. After grabbing the product, she rubbed it in my cheek so I could see the coverage and let me feel it in my fingers to see the weight. I was happy with her suggestion and after being assured I could return it if I decided later I didn't like it, I purchased. We sought refuge in here on a rainy day while on vacation. My boyfriend patiently waited while I looked through the store. The associates, Jenn, Jade and Kim struck up a conversation with us and were all so friendly and helpful. They ended up doing masks on both my boyfriend and I and gave me a mini makeover. This store is not as large as ones on the mainland but they had a decent selection of brands (Urban Decay, Benefit, Too Faced, Stila and Smashbox to name a few). Of course Sephora is the mecca of cosmetics and skincare under one roof and this is a treat for us on Maui. Products are what you would expect to see however service is lacking. Some of the associates are not well versed in the lines they carry and cannot offer useful feedback. I am a regular at this location and it is smaller, but they meet my needs (and now I don't have to drive for an hour to buy some MU!) each time I shop there. I've been to many Sephora's and the customer service here is always great. I notice that every time I shop here I am always given consistent service and they offer samples to me each trip. I also had to return a mascara and I had lost my receipt. The manager just smiled and said not to worry. Loved that! Super sweet employees and management. Shannon is a remarkable employee and Sephora is lucky to have her. I just walked out of Sephora feeling so thankful for Shannon. I walked in with a very bad heat rash looking for products to buy with my 20% off discount. I asked Shannon to match me for a tinted moisturizer even though it wasn't the best time because I was red from my rash. She then helped me with a color and gave me a sample. She then went beyond my expectation and treated me with cooling products to help soothe my rash. She was genuinely concerned and did not try to sell me anything and everything. I only went back a second time at this location because I had a VIB 10% coupon that I used to get my perfume and eye creme. I walked pass a few associates and I was not acknowledged at all. Great products-HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. My friend and myself are both locals that live 45 minutes away. We wanted to stop by Sephora to grab a few things, we ended up spending $200 but we won't be back. In the 30 minutes I was shopping, not one representative offered me help out of the 5+ available. Some standing right next to me. My two sons come in to check on me and I hear a worker reporting it in to security. Security came in and stalked my party the whole time, making us very uncomfortable. I felt offended and unwelcome. We came dressed classy and with a lot of money, but we're still treated this way. We've both worked retail in the past so we are aware of suspicious shoppers and we're not behaving as such. I do not recommend this store to any locals on Maui. I will continue to spread the word. Makes you wonder about management and why they are hiring these girls who lack knowledge in their products, have zero human interaction skills, don't even smile or try to make customers feel welcomed. I actually got helped by two different sales people while shopping (me asking them for help, not them harassing me - don't you hate that!?). Hawaii has four Sephora locations and while customer service is wanting in each, this store has by far the worst. Considering how much more tiny this store is compared to the other three, it is embarrassingly overstaffed- a combination which makes no excuse for poor service. The sales staff hover around the cash registers when no one is in line and scatter when approached for assistance. The only sales woman to even acknowledge us was an abrasive Hawaiian named Keala who likes to shout from across the store that she found the acne medication you've been look for *cringe.* Understandably, we will not be returning to this Sephora location on our next trip to Maui. read more

While on vacation in Maui, I stopped at Sephora in Whalers Village for some Origins moisturizer. Thought I would pick up some nail polish too. WORST IDEA EVER. The display bottle of a new deep blue color was broken. When I picked it up, the whole bottle of polish fell to the floor and broke, spraying polish all over my legs, shoes and feet. I spent 20 minutes using all of their nail polish remover to clean myself up. No one ever said Oh we're so sorry, how can we make this right? No one commented that my PINK pedicure and manicure were now ruined by polish remover and my finger tips were stained blue from getting the polish off my legs! None of the clerks even bothered to let the manager know what happened, so when I asked for him/her and she finally appeared, I had to explain the whole story. Rather than sympathizing or apologizing, she asked what I wanted her to do. I said I wanted her to reimburse me for my pedicure. Instead she offered me 10% off the $48.00 moisturizer! I told her I really thought it would be the right thing for her to do to cover my time and expense to fix my pedicure. Just comp me the moisturizer. She asked me to wait while she called her area supervised and then said she could offer me 15% off. Am I crazy to think they should have worked with me on this? read more

I was excited to see Sephora at Whaler's Village and I went in to check out some makeup. People there nice. I can't remember if they ask if I needed help, but I think they did. Oh I think I actually ask them where the makeup remover was. They were nice. Then when I went to checkout my items, and when the girl spoke. I was like omg... Her voice sounded like Cher but more nasaled. Like one of those girls from Bratz that talks like a blonde rich girl. I was like umm I really wanted to get out of there because the way she spoke to me sounded very condescending lol. I was like oh dead god like can she talk normal? Note for the MUAs that work in that store. If you do not know what you are doing please ask for another associate to demonstrate. The girl was really nice but she totally did a bad job. Like it was really bad. I had brown spots on my forehead that was supposed to be the contour? There was very bad blending. Never let your clients walk out lookin like a clown sis. I had an AMAZING time today with employee Kaegil. She helped with every aspect of a quick, new, professional work look, including lips, foundation, finishing powder, blush, mascara, and eyeshadow. Despite my lack of experience with makeup, she was incredibly friendly and never condescending. I wish that Kaegil could be my helper every time I visited a Sephora!!!
