My friends and I were drinking wine and beer and having some pad thai over at The Crying Tiger when someone brought up Melona ice pops out of the blue. It was a particularly balmy night and we really wanted to cool down a bit. Luckily, someone mentioned that there was a Korean grocery down the street, so the girls and I excused ourselves to get some ice cream. This place is brimming with goods from Korea. It's a jumble of a wide variety of products, such as packaged groceries and other dry goods, kitchen equipment, beauty products, instant noodles, home improvement and even baby stuff like non-slip changing mats and the like.
The place also advertises its plenty different kinds of kimchi and other fermented vegetables and pickles. You can buy these in bulk, or you can also get them in small disposable plastic containers. We were walking around the store, tipsy and kinda loud but they didn't seem to mind. With the grocery store's proximity to the bars and pubs around, they must get drunk customers a lot. I got to try the packaged Banana Shake drink, which was really, really good. Also, the cashier is very nice. She offered to give a discount because my purchase was a little over P60 and all I had was a P50 and a P1000 bill. She probably just didn't want to break my large bill, but the fact that she offered to just give to me the drink for P50 was very nice of her.
This place is convenient for those staying around the hostels and the affordable lodging in the area. You can get plenty of food and supplies from here, but you can always just duck in here and get your Melona ice cream fix. read more
