Parking was plentiful but not many are near the front door. The wait time to get checked in was only a few minutes and then you are sent to the correct dept. We were seeing a Dr that doesn't have a dept at this location so we were told to wait in a room that was empty and it would be 10 min before anyone came out to get us. Other waiting rooms were busy. Ours was literally just us. And no other person ever came through until child was called back. The working area was clean, nurse was nice, and once in the room, the Dr came in. Nice! No waiting! The dr seen was nice. I was warned he lacked personality but knows his stuff. I would agree with the preview I was given. But in the end, he couldn't help my son's issue....same information I was told years ago. We did get a better prescription and materials to purchase some medical supplies. So not a complete waste of time. I like that you can get in and out here pretty quick. Years ago we saw a different Dr in a different dept. That was a busy waiting room and we had more of a wait. Staff then was great. Son had some extra testing on the spot we didn't know about and that went well and results were instant. That Dr had personality and knowledge and was reassuring about the situation. So all our experiences here have been good. I am never here for hours. And the Drs are all great/smart/helpful.

Once I passed the background check, I was given a parking pass valid for the next few days. I parked in the parking garage as instructed by my nieces husband. I got turned around the first time, and it took a little extra time to find the maternity ward. But the next time it was easier and I never got lost again lol. On one of my visits, I walked through the oldest structure on campus which was the original hospital built in 1827. This is the oldest military hospital in the US. It still had the original stone exterior (outsise of original hospital) which had been closed in with hallways surrounding it. I checked out some cool paintings throughout the hospital. I learned a lot of history by reading the captions of the paintings. This biulding was turned into an administrative building. The campus was huge! And very pretty as it sits on the bank of the Chesapeake Bay. There was lots of green space which was beautiful.

If you need Emergency care, know that you will wait based on the triage of the severity of your symptoms and the needs of other individuals also seeking care. You need to be a dependent or other military ID card holder to be seen and it is on the base; past the front gate. If you need help deciding if you need to be seen there is a nurse advice line when you call the main number that can help you decide if you're in need of care. Parking is sometimes an issue but you can park in the attached garage and get to the ER via the interior of the main hospital easily for walk-in care. Patient parking lot near the ER entrance is also an option. This is a place to receive care for any military member or their family member who is experiencing a mental health crisis and needs to be kept safe.

I'm in room 354 and since I have been here on the second shift, I see one lady working and really dedicated to the job. (Robin Humphrey). The charge nurse on second shift tonight is Lucy. I had to ask her several times to write her name on the board. I had a situation that required changing my bed. I pushed the call bottom and Lucy answered In such a rude manner. I explained the situation and she sent Ms. Robin. Robin Humphrey seems to be the only worker tonight. I inquired and was told that Lucy didn't have any patients tonight. I needed a unit of blood that the Doctor had assigned and Lucy said that she would go and get it. It took over 15 minutes and when she returned Lucy had to administer it. Lucy did come to verify the codes. Nurse Lucy has had company sitting at the desk throughout the night. They are laughing and singing with music as though at a club. This is why I'm saying that BSMC is paying for employees to come and socialize. I would advise anyone that would have to come to this hospital, please if you are assigned to this floor if you see Nurse Lucy. Run, and request another floor. On the other hand there are great nurses here who are definitely here for the patients. Such as Nurse Raven Green, Robin Humphrey, Michelle (ICU) Ashley (ICU) MR. Parker (Nurse super/manager. Clients perceive a sense of apathy from Sentara Healthcare.
