I had a weekend appointment at the imaging center. You have to make sure you go to the very end of the building and not the middle where the sleep center is. I rang the door bell for 15 minutes before a security guard told me the correct place to go. There weren't really many people inside. I was checked in quickly and taking back for my MRI. The tech was nice, but she made me feel extremely rushed. I had imaging done a few weeks prior at a different facility and the experience was different. Today, I had a bad experienced by walking in to Sentara blood lab @ 1975 Glenn Mitchell Drive Virginia Beach to have my blood work done. The two ladies in registration area were very rude and aggressive. The lady in both #1 acted like she didn't want to be there and help people. I won't recommend this place. It's not worth it to get a blood work done. read more

Check in clerk aside from wearing sunglasses was rude and impersonal. Registration clerk yelling aggressively for next patients like she's calling a child in trouble and the lab tech performed the draw in an unsafe manner. And in a way that will surely result in poor samples and potential need for redraw. I reported this to Patient Complaint team. My second visit to this lab in 2 months. The good thing is both times I was in and out fairly quickly.. today however was terrible. had blood drawn from a teck. named Nicole. She was blunt, rude and not helpful. I was supposed to get 3 tests and I did not know if they were all related to the blood work. After Nicole stuck me with far too much force I asked her if I was done and could go home. She responded I could go anywhere I wanted. The one good thing is she hit the vein on the first Ram. I have probably been here a grand total of about 5 times to have blood work done. Three times I have been here to have the yearly physical blood work where you fast and they check a bunch of different levels of your blood sugar, cholesterol and a bunch of other stuff. Twice I've been in to have some significant blood work done to test for lupus or other auto-immune disorders, ANA-titers, full panels, etc. Each time I have been here the staff have been friendly, welcoming, polite and very prompt. I've never wanted more than about 10-15 minutes to be called back - I remember sitting for HOURS at a doctor's office where they did their lab work in-house waiting to have a blood panel done. They are very fast and efficient because all they do here is lab work for other offices and doctors. They are currently in the middle of renovating their space so the waiting rooms are kind'of rough looking right now. They had a new check-in policy where you go to a computer and put your last name, first name, doctor, and reason for visit and submit it. It populates in one of their three little corrals with check-in personnel who will call you by name and verify your testing and paperwork as well as insurance card and information. Once you're verified and the right tests are in the system you'll sit for a few minutes until one of the techs call you back to do whatever lab work you are waiting for. They can draw blood, run other panels, do MRIs, etc. here and it runs like a well-oiled machine from what I can tell. Markeeta (I'm probably spelling that wrong) - took my blood today and she was very friendly and pleasant. I told her about how nervous I always am about shots and needles and she tried to make me comfortable, she was very easy with me, and it was over very quickly. She got three full vials of blood before I knew it. Her demeanor and professionalism made the whole experience better and if I remember to ask for her next time I might see if they can get me the same gal! But really, I've never had a bad experience with any of the ladies working back there. Also - the nice young lady that took my information once I checked-in at her desk today was friendly as well and we had a good laugh about my telling her after my blood work was done I was going to treat myself to chick-fil-a for breakfast since I had to fast. All in all - this was a very positive experience. (The billing issues I had before were FINALLY resolved after about 15 phone calls and about 9 months. That has little to do with the women who work here - Sentara has a sep. site that bills patients and insurance) read more

Maybe if you have them easier names such as safe area and then approaching MRI area, people wouldn't have to worry about pacemakers getting ripped out. Sorry for the slight exaggeration. I strongly dislike getting labs drawn at the Princess Anne lab. It's common to wait over an hour just to get registered! You can't make an appointment for labs - you wait in one line to add your name to the wait list and then wait to be called to register and wait again to be called back to the lab. It's absolutely frustrating. In the future, I'll look for other Sentara labs - this is ridiculous. read more

Most confusing check in process ever in this lab office. A doctor from a nearby office asked me to get some bloodwork done, I stopped at the main desk in the hospital and asked where the lab was located, all she did was tell me which building. I walked over to the building only to wonder where the lab was actually located. There were quite a few different doors to different offices in this building. When I found the correct door, the first floor had a room with glass doors with mammogram printed huge on them as well as other things printed, in the bottom left corner easily missed smaller print and almost hidden behind a stand they had in front of it said lab work. However, I hadn't seen it. I walked in to find an employee to ask where the lab was located. The room was packed and everyone was too busy. I walked outside the building and a couple saw me looking around confused and luckily asked if I needed help. They told me where I was IS the lab, and then they argued over whether or not I check in on computer upon entrance. So I turned around and went back in, the computer had printed on top of it breast and mammogram check in - NOTHING about lab work. There were no signs posted anywhere with instruction. Luckily a booth opened at that moment and I was able to ask the woman working what I do for blood work, she told me to check in even though the computer says it's for breast and mammogram. How would I have known otherwise? She told me take a seat and they'd call me back in the lab. A woman came out of the lab in the back corner and asked the room for their paperwork. When I handed her what I was given is when she explained I had to go through the full check in progress first. Sooo confusing! I've never had this issue before from other labs. So wasted so much time just waiting to ask for help rather than getting checked in properly to begin with because there was no posted signage. Sentara needs to make things easier for patients. While I was waiting I noticed many other people coming in after me who were just as confused. At that point a patient waiting started directing everyone to just sign in regardless of the mammogram posting. The good - wait room was packed SO bad that people had to stand in the hallway during my wait, but the wait was super quick. They took people back for lab work promptly, and the lab work staff was comforting and friendly. So this review is for anyone confused how to check in, and if an employee sees this...maybe think about better posted instructions for your patients, especially on a busy day when you don't have a free employee to guide your patients. Because if a patient is like me, I'm not going to nag at a person in the wait room for help, I don't know what they're going through, how stressed or sick they may be, and I just want to let them be and would rather ask for help from an employee. read more

My husband and I both had routine bloodwork to be completed, so we fasted and went together this past Saturday. OMG! First of all it says they open at 8am. We got there at 8:05 and the waiting room was full. I mean no place to sit full! And there were two people waiting to do the self registering process on the computer in front of us. How can it be that the waiting room is full and all 40 people got registered in 5 minutes before we got there? Or do they start admitting people at an earlier time, but don't start seeing patients until 8?? It's not clear, but when the info listed about times open and times closed you'd think it would be pretty easy to get them right on the website. We would have been there at 6am if that's the time listed as being open. Anyway, a woman who was in front of us finished checking in and she asked one of the patient assistants that are in the little cubicle offices about how long it might be and the woman said maybe 15-20 minutes to call you to get your paperwork filled out and then another 25-30 minutes or more to get called back. When we heard this we just turned around to leave and there were 5 more people waiting behind us. I have a back issue and there was no way that I can stand for an hour or more waiting. So to recap there was no place to sit, none of the patient assistants (or whatever they are called) had anyone in their cubicles getting paperwork completed and they are saying that it's going to take 50-55 minutes to get seen. There's no way all those people were going to be seen by the alleged closing at Noon. This place needs to have the real opening times listed, more seating and perhaps appointments or early on line registration so you can through quicker. read more
