It is part of the Parliament Drive Professional Building. My visit here was on July 13, 2023. It was time for my quarterly lab draw, which I have been doing at the Quest Diagnostics location at Walmart. However, after waiting there for about 45 minutes, no staff ever showed up. Later that day, a message would come out that they would be closed and to reschedule the appointment (this was about 4 hours later). Since I was already fasting and looking to get it done, I started looking at other places that take Quest Diagnostics as the lab order is covered 100%. In the end, I made my way here to have the blood draw taken care of. I almost missed where the building was. It looks like it was converted to businesses, as it looks like an old motel was here before. They are located on the second floor, so you can only access it via stairs from what I was able to see, so you probably won't be able to get up there if you can't use the stairs. Once I came inside, there was a nice associate at the counter. She asked what brought me here and I told her it was for fasting labs and that I had the lab order available on my phone. After getting that squared away, there was a cost to have this done. Mind you, this was not expected as it was supposed to be covered 100%. Essentially there is a $30 convenience fee (at least that is what it seemed like to me). It's a fee for all out there, as it ended up costing $31.19 because they charge a credit/debit card fee too. After that was done, I was taken back to a room with the chair for the blood draw to take place. After everything was verified, the blood draw took place and then had me verify the info on the test tubes. After that, the process was complete. The blood draw portion took less than five minutes. Overall, everything went well with the process. This is actually well outside the area that I would normally go to have the blood draw taken care of. The associate was caring and understanding, so there was nothing wrong with that at all. There wasn't an overall wow factor and the convenience fee was a bit of a turn off for me. However, if you are looking to have labs drawn through insurance and close by, this is a viable location to have it done.

One Registration & large waiting area also include a Breast Center, Diagnostic Center & Lab. How surprised I was when Central Scheduling offered that location as the next available appointment. The time was also perfect. It was early evening when both the parking lot & the waiting room were almost completely empty. Although the arrival time was quoted as 30 prior to the testing, I was taken back pretty quickly, The technicians in the MRI room couldn't have been nicer. After noticing that I had no clothing with metal, I was allowed to have the procedure in my street clothes rather than a hospital gown. They were careful to assure that I was OK on the table with my bad back. First a pillow was placed under my knee. Then at my request they placed another one under my back. My head was secured in an open faced chamber so it wouldn't move. Next they offered little ear stoppers & headphones. After asking my choice of music (70's) they began playing a tune that wasn't to my liking. I was asked to name a group I liked (Eagles) & a new playlist began. I was happily singing along with the music until I looked up & saw two wide eyed faces staring down at me. My response was "I guess you don't want me to sing along." Both faces emphatically shook their heads NO. The machine was wonderful. You could barely hear the usual MRI sounds. One setting even felt like you were getting a back massage. The hardest thing was controlling my strong urge to sing along with the music. When the MRI was completed a technician helped me get off the table & I went on my way. The location is quite convenient. The Sentara Brock Cancer Center is a part of the ever expanding Sentara Leigh campus. It's the gorgeous building sitting on Virginia Beach Boulevard just to the east of the new Sentara Orthopedic Surgery Center. Both buildings have their own parking & also share a parking garage. Located on the southeast corner of the intersection of Kempsville Road & Virginia Beach Boulevard, entrance & exit is possible from either street. My experience & care was so good that I scheduled my follow-up CatScan at that Imaging Center. An added benefit is that appointments are available sooner than most Sentara facilities. I think most people, like me, don't know that there is a center in the building. So it's not requested as often. This is a facility I would highly recommend, from check in to exit. It's beautiful, clean, convenient & filled with friendly & helpful employees.

All the staff were wonderful. You're given a gown, lock your things in a locker, and will be called back when they're ready to do your imaging. Both days, different staff, all super professional and nice and calming. I was able to easily and quickly get my results and hop upstairs to have my follow-up appointment one of the days with my physician who already had the results. Boom! Hopefully, I can start getting my MRIs here too and won't have to go to separate places anymore. Win, win.

Mine was scheduled with a multiple months wait. The appointment happened to be during the time when I had Covid. I had to cancel & planned to call back when I recovered. The long illness made me forget. When I finally remembered, the wait again was many months. That's when I began my attempt to get the testing done at the McLeskey Comprehensive Breast Center, located in the Brock Cancer Center. It took some persuasion but scheduling finally agreed to the facility switch. They were both Sentara facilities. The radiologists & equipment most likely had been changed since my previous in 2017. Why not me also? I had already been a patient of the Advanced Imaging Center at Brock & loved the closer location, large waiting rooms & fewer patients. The McLeskey Breast Center provided all the same. I was given a late afternoon appointment with a more reasonable wait. Arriving for my appointment today about 20 minutes before scheduled, I was greeted by a friendly person at the checkin desk. She gave me additional paperwork with questions other than those asked on the MyChart On Line Check In & told me I would be called for registration. Before I even got started on the paperwork I was called to the Registration Desk. She too was extremely friendly. After learning the name of the ordering physician, she mentioned that she lived close to a landmark with a similar name. So we began sharing our knowledge & the history each had learned about the legendary 17th Century "Witch of Pungo". What fun! Just as I finished completing the paperwork I was called back for my Scan. The technician was also very friendly & we discussed my boots from my favorite brand and shoes she had seen from the same brand on other patients. The table itself was slightly padded, which was helpful for my bad back. This was important because they couldn't use pillows during a Bone Density Scan. It wasn't comfortable but it was bearable. A metal table bed wouldn't have been. Fifteen minutes after my appointment time I was leaving the facility. What a great experience! I'm so happy Central Scheduling allowed me to schedule with a different Sentara facility than my previous Bone Density Scans. The McLeskey Comprehensive Breast Center at the Brock Cancer Center is terrific. I'll always return here for testing.

Lab Corp is located in the Haygood Medical Center. I've written a review of it. Nice older building that is maintained nicely. As in others visits no debris in the parking lot. The lobby was clean and the couches utilized for pick ups. No appointment is necessary, but doctors orders, insurance card and form of ID are a must. Located on the second floor, just off the elevators is the business. Signage is small, but posted. I found the lobby to their office to be of adequate space and clean. I caught them around 8:50 AM which proved to be excellent because they were not busy. To the left is check-in. A woman named Tiffany was present to help me. She was wearing a white lab coat. Another woman also white lab coat and young male in in street clothes at desk. Tiffany God Bless her had no personality at all. No greeting, no smile just all business. I signed in which is standard and provided my necessary info to proceed. A form was signed confirming they had all correct info for me. Immediately after paperwork was signed I was called back. Guess what, Tiffany was my tech drawing blood. I tried to make light conversation and that failed. Again all business, roll up your sleeve and make a fist. I usually make a practice of hydrating to help with getting a great vein, but I forgot. Tiffany with lightening speed had a vein and needle in lickity split with zero pain. Well dang she is going to get props. So, thinking about combined experiences which I recall little of this was okay. They are in a customer service business and should be, or try to be at least a little friendly. However, the skill of the tech to get the job done supersedes being nice I guess, LOL! I will continue to use this lab and do recommend.

Anyway - the ladies are very nice and it's efficient. No one really wants to have advanced screening and MRI testing done but if it has to be done it's nice if the people are pleasant and kind to you and everyone is competent and good at their jobs. Last year when I had my annual breast MRI - they used a needle that hurt my arm/vein because it was too big. So this year I informed the nurse that since I'm very petite I wanted them to try to use the smallest needle the had so it wouldn't hurt my arm the entire time I was in the MRI machine. She found a smaller one and very adeptly started the IV. Someone else was finishing up their MRI so she pulled the privacy curtain and got me some blankets for my legs and feet so I wasn't cold and bundled me up like a baby. She talked to me for a good 5-10 minutes easily while we waited and we made pleasant conversation. She was very personable and friendly and put me at ease. Once I went into the room for the breast MRI I opened my gown - laid on the table with my boobs over the boob holes and they covered me again with blankets so I wouldn't get cold and connected the contrast dye to my IV. They gave me a call button in case I started to freak out or had a reaction to the dye and I was off to the races for me 20-45 minute MRI scan. It wasn't as bad this time as last time because I had asked my doctor to give me something for nerves so I was relaxed prior to the screening. I think I may have fallen asleep after the first 5-10 minutes. It seemed like it was over fairly quickly. All in all - they do a good job here and they're kind to me when no one really wants to be there to begin with. So, although I dread it, their efficient and well-run center makes it a bit less of a bad thing.
