"The Forgotten Patient" Worse hospital ever for the "I…read moreforgot you were here" people. Not just one time but for over five-six hours. I begged all that time "Can I please have some water?" I had the IV line (two the first sticks one "blew" a vein, blood was just pouring) inserted but no IV fluids bag installed. My veins were collapsing because I was DEHYDRATED! Never got fluids of any kind the entire time. I came in by ambulance and had an immediate CAT scan but the dye or contrast didn't go in my veins but collected at the puncture site causing a massive painful red/purple/blue lump. The size of a lemon. The nurse grabbed some sticky bandage as tight as possible but that caused the lump to break into THREE huge painful lumps and my entire arm swelled. After hours and hours I realized if I wanted the basic needs of human being food and water, even sleep I needed to go home this was basic care which I couldn't get at this hospital. If something was wrong I figured 5-6 hours after one test was long enough or, unless they were truly cruel just did not care. That was so hard to believe so I must be fine. Definitely forgotten! I asked before I left if they would call with the CAT scan results "Absolutely!" Never got that call either! What did I get from Richardson Methodist? Massive bruising from blown veins, missed veins, vein, blowout contrast lumps, other arm collapsed veins (could I be DEHYDRATED! hint!) and extreme depression knowing I'm not worth their time. More tortuous than helpful. No fluids, diagnosis, recommendations, doctor, test result, medications, bloodwork (can you be charged for an IV if they never attached the IV fluid bag?) no physical exam of any kind, nothing. Going to a hospital like this when you're alone is like going to court without a lawyer! No-one to help and stand up for you and you end up being a "forgotten patient" Interesting fact, this is becoming a "phenomenon" in the medical world, coming in alone by ambulance, put in a room, might've been seen and had a test, then forgotten! I was shocked. That's what happened to me!! "Forgotten patient" is real! Even when it's a very slow time it still happens. Like "hot car" baby death, parents just forget they're there. So I guess make sure you're never alone! "Forgotten Patient" is real and it is terrible.

When I've needed outpatient imaging I now request only the Southwest Diagnostic Imaging Center…read more(SWDIC) in Dallas. I've been their patient for decades, the first reason I recommend them. I've seen many freestanding radiology practices disappear, along with my reports and images, many of which would be valuable for comparison if only they were available. My first tip: Stick with a company with proven longevity, such as SWDIC. My second tip: Get all of your outpatient imaging done at the same place so that you will know how to quickly find what a provider may want to see some day. SWDIC does every procedure I can think of. My next tip: if you have special needs, go to an imaging center where the staff and their accomodations can meet your needs easily. Two examples: at SWDIC, I always had the best of care from Cindy, the same mammography tech year after year, despite my limitations from MS. And I know of no other place you can have an MRI if you can't just get up and walk away from your power wheelchair (Don't I wish!) and walk the long distance to the MRI table. Uh, there's a good reason that I must use a power wheelchair, and only SWDIC has an MRI with a detachable exam table that can be brought to the patient who can't trek to an attached exam table! I thank God for the foresight of SWDIC clinical and executive staff for providing this invaluable tool! Never have I ever met a SWIC staff member, from schedulers to the front desk, to the professional staff who was not both professional and kind, and personal if the interaction was long enough. You may well leave with your images and reports in hand; just ask, if that will be helpful. And don't get away without a parking voucher, although I've always been given one before I could ask.

I had a very unpleasant experience at Southwest Diagnostic Imaging this morning, and unfortunately,…read moreI will not be returning. Earlier this morning, I had an appointment with my rheumatologist, who ordered several X-rays of specific areas, including my neck, back, and hips. After my appointment, I went directly to Southwest Diagnostic Imaging. The woman at the front desk was very kind and helpful. She made copies of my paperwork and helped me complete the necessary forms since it was my first time there. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill from there. While sitting in the waiting room, a woman opened the door and called out a name that sounded nothing remotely like mine. Naturally, I assumed she was calling for another patient, as I was not the only person waiting. This happened twice before she finally got my attention and asked for my name. Once I confirmed it, I stood up and followed her back. As I walked in, she made the comment, "You're too busy on your phone or just half asleep in there." I found this comment completely unnecessary and unprofessional. Once we got into the imaging room, she asked if I was experiencing joint pain. When I said yes, she responded, "Well, you know you're too young to even have arthritis." I found this comment extremely inappropriate. I was referred there by a rheumatologist, a specialist who specifically evaluates and treats joint and autoimmune conditions. My age does not invalidate the pain I am experiencing, nor is it appropriate for someone performing my imaging to make assumptions about my medical condition. At this point, I was already uncomfortable and just wanted to get through the appointment. However, the biggest issue came after I got home. When I reviewed my paperwork, I realized that the X-rays had not been performed according to my doctor's orders. Not only was imaging taken of my RIGHT hip when the order specified my LEFT hip, but the ordered imaging of my neck and back was not performed at all. I am not a doctor, nurse, or medical professional. I should not have to inspect my paperwork after an appointment to discover that the imaging I was referred for was not completed correctly. I trusted this facility to follow the written orders provided by my physician. I called the office to explain what had happened and was told I could either drive all the way back or go to another imaging facility closer to my home. I chose to go someone closer only to arrive there and discover that Southwest Diagnostic Imaging had failed to return my original doctor's orders with the physician's signature. As a result, the second facility could not perform the imaging either. What should have been a simple imaging appointment turned into an incredibly frustrating experience involving unnecessary comments, incorrect imaging, wasted time, and an additional trip that could have been avoided entirely. I understand that mistakes can happen, but the lack of professionalism, failure to follow the physician's orders, and overall inconvenience are unacceptable. I hope management takes this feedback seriously because patients deserve to feel respected, listened to, and confident that their medical orders are being followed correctly.
