My sweet pup Stevie was running in our yard and essentially stabbed herself in the chest on a large…read morepiece of driftwood that had come up from the marsh. We just moved to the area and hadn't been to a vet in the area yet. She had a large hole in her chest, that had me, quite frankly, terrified. My son and I got her in the car and I looked for the closest open animal hospital I could find on a Saturday. Luckily, that was PRVH. I called them on the way and let them know the situation. They helped me get her out of the car and took excellent care of her. They sedated her, did xrays to make sure she hadn't punctured the chest cavity and wasn't internally bleeding, and stitched her up. Dr. Marikay was kind and helpful. The rest of the staff was so caring and kind to both Stevie and myself, and when I called back multiple times with a million questions, they handled me with continued grace and kindness. To those of you complaining about cost, it's all about perspective. In other towns, veterinary care is more expensive. Emergency vet care at an emergency clinic is WAY more expensive. I highly recommend acquiring pet insurance for your fur family members. Yes, it costs money each year. But it is also there in case of emergencies like this one, to help offset the costs incurred. I'm so grateful to Dr. Marikay and the rest of the staff at PRVH for taking such good care of my sweet girl.

This morning I called Port Royal Veterinary Hospital because I found a deceased kitten on the broad…read moreriver bridge. I called to see if I could bring this kitten there to be communally cremated because no animal should have an ending like this little one did. I was told that if I brought the kitten in I would be financially responsible for its cremation even though I would not be receiving ashes back. I was told it would be $120 just to drop this kitten off (who was already deceased so no need for an "exam" or euthanasia drugs) to be cremated. I then called another animal hospital 10 minutes away who gladly accepted this kitten WITHOUT charge and said they would take care of it. I am disappointed that this hospital did not live up to their oath to serve the animals of our community and show respect to a kitten who deserved a much better hand than the one it was dealt. As a veterinarian and a veterinary technician it is your responsibility to take an oath for the animals, public and community safety and ethical practice. I am very disappointed in Port Royal Veterinary Hospital.

Unless you want your dog neglected and coming home with flees don't take your dog here! Not only…read moredid this happen to us, they then tried to state that our dog came with flees, like no we treat our dog but nice try. They will take your money up front for so many day care days and when you realize that this place is a prison for dogs they will not refund any money you had already paid in advance. They received an F from the BBB so stay away at all costs.

THREE times my dog got fleas. She was treated so luckily the fleas never laid eggs in my house but each time I would take her home and scrub fleas her...the last time there were at least 50 fleas on my dog that fell off in the bath. The first couple times I tried to give Paws the benefit of the doubt because they have great hours and try to accommodate military schedules and I appreciated that about the business. However, the third time when my dog was infested, I could not take it anymore. I told Tara I could not bring my dog back and that I would like 8 sessions worth of my money back. She claimed it was non-refundable, which is interesting because it is not written anywhere in the contract or anywhere in her policies. Actually, she does not have any written policies. She also claims that the 22 sessions are meant to be used in a month time frame. Again, no where does it say that or was I told this catch. I was not concerned so much about the money but I was concerned for her lack of concern for a huge problem in her establishment and her disregard for her customers and fellow pet owners. When I went into the place to speak with her in person, the first two dogs I saw were biting at their butts. Of course, Tara was not there, as usual, and my issue was not resolved. Your dog will get fleas from this place and Tara will not care one bit. Her staff is very dedicated and professional but Tara herself is a business owner to stay away from.
