The service here is amazing! Ask for the firey red head (Kyleigh) behind the bar! She knows how to make a yummy drink & puts on a good show too!

A Charlotte staple this place was here long before I arrived and from speaking with my friends who grew up here it has been a favorite hangout of Charlotte natives for years. They are known for their inviting patio (I am not really sure I even know what the inside of this place looks like) and their inexpensive mixed drinks they call transfusions which are served in a signature Styrofoam cup. I no longer live very close to this place so I hadn't ventured over here in a while but my Patriots were playing on a Thursday night so some friends suggested this location to get together and watch the game. We managed to snag some couch space along with a table surrounding a fire pit. A fire wasn't needed as the weather was nice but I imagine they come in handy during the colder months. For drinks I kept it simple with beer orders while many at our table enjoyed their transfusion drinks. We decided to try their pizza and ordered three larges for the table along with some chips and queso and several appetizers. The food was ok nothing special. Good enough to eat while drinking and watching sports but not something you would plan your night around to come eat. If I were to base it simply off the food the score would be lower but our main objective was to watch the game and have a good time and they certainly provide that. Our server was fantastic and did a great job keeping up with everyone's orders she gets 5 stars from me. I can definitely see the charm to this place, it is old school and laid back. If I lived closer I would probably swing by more often.

One of my favorite spots to watch football games! Got to try the diet transfusion or the regular if you aren't counting calories! Also they have some "decent"'wines for you none beer liquor drinkers :)

This place is alright. The food is typical bar food options but everything I ordered tasted good. The drinks I ordered were also good, however I do think the first drink I ordered was incorrect. But as it tasted fine and I didn't want to wait for another drink I drank it. The outdoor are could be so good, but they REALLY need to invest in new seating under the roof. The couches by the big TVs were all broken and extremely uncomfortable. When my boyfriend sat down he literally sunk into the seat. This place is not incredibly expensive which is nice.

So...another one of my "been in Charlotte 3 years and I just tried this place?!" moments (ie Penguin). Was out with a buddy last week and after some good beer tasting at Dockworkers, we were in the mood for pizza. Decided to head in the direction of the new Mellow Mushroom on Selwyn, but unfortunately (fortunately tuned) it was not open yet. Decided to go across the street to Selwyn Pub as we'd never been. OMG...place is awesome. Was busy for a Tuesday and the patio area is twice the size of the pub itself. Huge TVs, couches, fire pits, high tops, low tops, fireplaces, separate bar. Selwyn could be my new favorite pub in Charlotte, but I'll let a few more visits in the coming weeks decide that. Found ourselves a fire pit near the TV. Baseball game was on and checked out the menu. To my surprise and delight all the pizza was $12.99. That's right, za for $12.99. And that's their specialty pizza prices. You want A 10" (I think that's the right side, then it's $7.99). You want an 18" cheese pizza with all the toppings...yep...$12.99. Witnessed a few handfuls of customers picking up the pizza to-go, which means like usual I'm the last one to the party. I'll be back soon, especially with the nice fall weather in store!

Always a fun time at Selwyn! Best during football season! Just make sure to get there early for a table because those fill up quickly!

I like that they had Magner's on draft, and of course no Irish pub is complete without a Guinness. Good selection of food, but we went with a bunch of starters- sliders, chips, sausage roll, and fried pickle okra. Okra was a favorite. The slider was delicious!! Chips were good, though they were thick-cut potatoes like wedges, so I wish they could've been a bit crispier. I wasn't a fan of the sausage roll, but my friend liked it. Great service, we were checked on frequently. It's a loud spot in the later hours, but that martini was so good I made my friend go back the next night to get another.

We ordered the Honey Badger cocktail, sausage rolls, shepherd's pie, and purple potato gnocchi. The honey badger cocktail was pretty sweet, and although I usually like sweet drinks, this one wasn't well balanced. My favorites were the sausage rolls and shepherd's pie! Perfect savory flavors. The Shepherd's pie had the perfect ratios of ingredients and a nice jus which didn't make the whole dish soggy. The sausage rolls were soft and flavorful with a perfect flaky/buttery roll which was great with the stone ground mustard. The side salad which came with the shepherd's pie was not my favorite. The gnocchi was okay. It was a bit too sweet and overwhelmed by the bell pepper flavor. I wouldn't order it again. The baguette and butter with it was very good as well as the presentation though.

Valhalla Pub and Eatery is a nice neighborhood pub with an appealing menu and a full bar…read more Unfortunately, for nearly every positive aspect of our visit, there seemed to be a frustrating inconsistency in how the pub was operated. A couple of friends and I decided to attend a Charlotte FC watch party during the team's match against FC Dallas, which was being played just down the street at Bank of America Stadium. Valhalla promotes itself as a soccer bar and a destination for Charlotte FC watch parties. However, that commitment seemed to take a back seat when other sporting events were on television. If you're going to promote yourself as a Charlotte FC watch-party destination, particularly through the team's website, you should be prepared to accommodate fans who come specifically to watch the match. I arrived about half an hour before my friends and waited at the bar. The bartender was very pleasant and worked hard, assisted by another staff member. When my friends arrived, we found a table directly in front of the largest television in the downstairs dining area. College football games were playing on all the televisions, and a Notre Dame watch party was taking place upstairs. Before ordering, we asked our waiter whether he could put the Charlotte FC match on the television nearest our table. He agreed. However, when the match began, it appeared on two smaller televisions some distance from us instead. We were happy to let the Maryland football game finish on the large television. But when that game ended, the pub switched it to the White Sox-Guardians playoff game rather than the Charlotte FC match. We did our best to watch the soccer match from our table. During the second half, the Charlotte FC match finally appeared on the large television in front of us. We were delighted! Other soccer fans even moved to nearby seats to get a better view. Then, unexpectedly, our original waiter approached and said that fans were going to "kill him" if he didn't switch the television back to baseball. I didn't notice anyone nearby watching the baseball game, so I pleaded with him to leave the soccer match on. Fortunately, he did! What puzzled me was that the baseball game wasn't subsequently shown on any of the other televisions, including those that were already showing the soccer match. It left me wondering why there had been such resistance to accommodating the Charlotte FC fans in the first place. The staff operates as a team rather than assigning one server exclusively to each table. Some employees were outstanding, particularly the bartender. Others, unfortunately, were less accommodating, and the inconsistent communication about the televisions detracted from our experience. About the food! We shared Odin's Pretzel Bites, pillowy pretzel bites with garlic and Parmesan cheese. They were enjoyable! Like me, one of my friends ordered Lodbrok's Lamb Burger. I really enjoyed mine, although my friend thought his was just okay. Our other friend ordered wings and said they were good. A couple of things to know before visiting! The restaurant automatically adds a 20% gratuity on special-event days. There is also a 3% surcharge for credit-card payments. I recommend checking your bill carefully so you're aware of these additional charges. Finally, Valhalla is located in Uptown Charlotte, so be prepared to pay for parking. Overall, Valhalla has some real positives: a pleasant pub atmosphere, enjoyable food, and several hardworking employees. However, our experience was disappointing because we specifically came to watch Charlotte FC at a pub that advertises itself as a soccer destination. Better communication and a more consistent commitment to its advertised watch parties would have made a considerable difference.

It's hard to describe quite how special this place is; for all the features and fun things to do, the venue has an effortless vibe and the drinks have the best prices you can find in the city. Don't let that fool you; just about everyone on the bar staff has extensive experience as trained cocktail bartenders, and the top shelf is nothing to scoff at. There are also regular karaoke nights, movie events, and a steady rotation of absolutely amazing food tents and trucks coming through in the parking lot. The bar is divey, and you can find very cheap drinks, especially if you go for the daily specials. The bartenders are nice - beware that they do keep your card if you keep your tab open - and seem to know the regulars. In addition to monthly bingo, they seem to host drag events, have video games and board games available to play, as well as several TVs. Plus, dogs can go inside and out. The bar does not serve food, though usually there is a vendor there. Looking forward to next month!
