1) What we consider "over the counter" meds are still generally kept behind the counter, so you need to ask for them. You won't see an aisle full of cold medication and NSAIDS, for example.
2) If you are looking for ADVIL, here ibuprofen is marketed mostly as "MOMENT"
3) ALEVE (Naproxen) is called "MOMENDOL"
4) TYLENOL is marketed under the name "TACHIPIRINA"
5) Most other common over the counter items (not all) have the same names (Dramamine, Zantac, etc.)
6) You will find that pharmacists here are very highly regarded as "almost doctors", to the point that doctors often consult with them on selecting prescriptions. As such, they are extremely knowledgable, and can often help you choose the right meds for many situations.
7) Many meds that are prescription-only back home are available over the counter here. For example, you can get most antibiotics without the need to see a doctor, and if you explain your condition, they will generally be able to choose the right one for you.
