Didn't get a call until the next day and we agreed on a day 2 weeks out. Then I get a call today saying the business name has changed to San Francisco something and we had 2 no shows so they sent the hearing aids back and they no longer accept her insurance anymore. Ummm....what?? 1st off I called to reschedule... He argued that I didn't call... Really genius?? Then how did I get the other appointment?? And said if I called on Monday there was none there to answer the call, just the doctor. It's not my fault he wasn't there to do his job and it shouldn't have counted as a no show if I informed them earlier. Then says we no showed 3 days ago when I had it down for next week and didn't get any reminders. But the part that really gets me pissed is the fact he said they sent them back. I'm like, already? After 3 days? He said, in a rude manner, I don't know when they sent them but they did and now you have to go somewhere else. I have worked in the medical field at private practices for many years and this is not how you do business. And I can tell the front office help is lazy because many times I have left messages and have not received calls back. Save yourself the trouble and go else where! If I could I would give 0 stars!

The very first impression she gave was indifference followed by a hacking cough she tried to suppress (not wearing a mask). She walked in from the back room (of an already small office lobby) briefly looked at me, then gave me papers to fill out and started to turn. I asked if the pens were clean since there were no labeled pens and only 2 or 3 in the pen hold can. She said yeah as she was turning away. I forgot my mask and went back out to the car to get it, since they didn't have any available (not sure if a hearing test facility qualifies as a medical facility under the Santa Clara County Health dept.). After coming back in and turning in the form she again only looked at me when getting the forms once, and not again until my misunderstanding of what she said. Ironically I am at a hearing test place and heard her say is that 'butt' for your email; not the best handwriting. Corrected her, but was already agitated by the lack of a welcome and the feeling of indifference (with an extra dose of coughing), and then said why would you say that? Say "butt"? I wait a few seconds and she doesn't say anything. I eventually just go to the restroom. When I get out she said only said "bud". Then says it again, while at least looking at me this time, but now looking a little annoyed. Goes back to looking over the form and without looking at me, asks for my insurance card. I followed my instinct and said I am canceling my appointment. "Ok", looking at me with indifference again. I had to ask for my paperwork so it wouldn't be billed accidently. Once I got it, I started to leave, and mentioned she was coughing/sick. She sarcastically said 'bye'. I came back in and addressed her attitude and about being sick. I am guessing they have so much business it doesn't matter how she treats people, because she just turned and walked away... I left, because I didn't feel at that point I could trust them to do the testing correctly, and really didn't want to find out one way or the other...maybe you will get a different experience if you decide to go there...

Saw him even on Christmas Eve, the front desk was helpful, gave him the paperwork ahead of time. She was very personable. John, the audiologist was helpful. He related to my uncle by music. I guess the brand is a Starkey brand. Other brands may be able to program other hearing aids as well. I believe they used to be hall hearing which was a good provider of hearing aids in San Jose's a while ago. Thank you again!!!!

I made an appointment to have it looked at and they did nothing to really troubleshoot the issue and tried to feed me some BS about aging electronics and stated the manufacture probably wouldn't service it. Then started pushing me to buy a new set when I stated I was here to have my device serviced they then asked if my insurance had a benefit that could be applied to my purchase of new devices. When I told them I was walking out and why they said nothing. After leaving my hearing in a dehumidifier for an extended period it seems to be working fine again. Caveat emptor! (Buyer beware!)

It's not just that the local folks were great (and they were!) but I'm certain it's also because of the company culture. My husband was driving me nuts with his mumbling. And when speaking to me from a room away or when not directly facing me, his words were mushy, garbled -- if I heard them at all. I missed dialogue at plays. I appreciated the "closed captions" option on TV programs or streamed content. Of course, the issue was me. My hearing. My whole world is now richer, brighter, and ever more audible thanks to the wonderful employees of and the fabulous company called Starkey Hearing. The company looked at the audiogram (measuring sound intensity vs frequency) from my healthcare plan, repeated the test to validate the findings, suggested the EDGE AI hearing aid and gave me a fitting that instantly improved my hearing. I had zero issues getting used to slipping the HAs over my ears and wearing them all day. I loved the settings I could choose with an inconspicuous press of a button on my left HA for a crowd scene or noisy restaurant or a volume setting on my right HA. Or from the Starkey app on my smartphone. I can even choose to have my specific environment analyzed by AI to give me an "in-the-moment" change in settings. Since getting the HAs, I've been to large events with noises bouncing everywhere, and I can hear a pal or the speaker with ease. And for my friends with supersoft voices, I just crank the volume. I'm an active gal, lifting lots of things, bending down a lot and, out of habit, floofing my curly hair. Downward Dog exercises were the worst. The HA would sometimes come loose when my head was inches from the ground, butt in the air. Easy fix: an ear fitting of a bit of plastic made just for me. Hubby and I were able to couple a vacation to the Land of Lakes (so beautiful, so green, so friendly) with a visit to Starkey headquarters where they treated me like royalty and made me feel like family. Sorry, this is getting to be TL:DR (Too Long, Didn't Read), but still, I have more to say! To the receptionist who greeted me, to the professional who administered a superior audiogram with tiny mikes attached to headphones to send more specific test sounds to my ears, to the pro who created a custom mold of my ear canals that formed the basis of custom inserts that fit better than a glove, to the follow-up meeting the next day to double check all was well before I returned to California, well, I thank you so much. Several C-suite executives greeted me and served me, too. But here's what surprised me the most. While waiting for the custom plastic part to solidify over the custom molds made from my ears, I noticed a gentleman getting attention from Bill Austin, founder, chairman and principal owner of the company. I thought whoa, that guy has connections! But no, the next client also was seen by him. And the next one. And then it was my turn. I almost never take selfies, but I had to in this instance. Bill Austin has provided hearing aids to presidents, popes, Mother Teresa and Nelson Mandela, to name a few. His missions to some of the poorest parts of the world to provide free HAs to the underprivileged are inspiring and more. And there is more. The whole headquarters operation is in an open plan, with visibility into all parts of the process and into the all-glass doors of folks with offices. No fancy setting for the highest officials. And here's what may have touched me most and made me feel so very good about the company culture: Chairman Austin's bar-stool perch -- where he smooths the edges of the custom inserts on a grinding/polishing wheel and checks on the fittings -- is right next to the shipping clerk. Literally, they work a few feet away. That the company treats its employees with such equality and respect made me happier yet to have chosen Starkey. Customer service provided so well from the chairman to the shipping desk represents something worth celebrating. One local note, too: When an issue with one of my HAs arose, I was referred to Starkey's new office in the SF Bay Area. The receptionist and the audiologist were friendly and more. I walked out with a loaner HA that was identical to my own (even the golden color to blend in with my locks) to use until mine could be repaired or replaced. It's the company culture! I'll stop now. (OK, one more: The antique auto museum and HA museum at the headquarters just outside of Minneapolis were treats for my eyes and made the short waits a delight!) OK. I'll really stop. No, just one more thing: Hubby loves Starkey, too. He doesn't have to repeat himself anymore.

My current aids were not really doing the job, even though they are less than a year old. I just wasn't happy with them. So, I went to see Dr. Miles. He provided me with a new pair of Oticons. They are FABULOUS! I don't understand the technology, but apparently it monitors all the sounds at about 100 times a second. Here's what it says on its website: "Powered by the Velox™ platform, the newest BrainHearing™ solution from Oticon employs an "open sound" approach to manage multiple speech and noise sources, even in complex listening situations. The company says the new OpenSound Navigator™ scans the environment 100 times per second to analyze and balance every sound individually. Environmental sounds are said to be accessible, but not disturbing. With this open sound experience, Oticon reports that it makes traditional directionality, designed to focus on the main sound in front and suppress background sounds, a thing of the past. Users can now focus on a conversation while staying attentive to people and things around them, and switch focus quickly and easily." Now again, I don't understand it all exactly, but the aids have been really working well. Oticon also has an app for the phone that makes it easy and unobtrusive to control the volume. You don't have to pick the ambient noise quality (e.g., car, restaurant, etc.) because it is doing that all automatically. At least that's what I think its doing. Great hearing aids!
