If at all possible, do not let your loved one stay here. My husband came in with a stage 1 bedsore and left there with a stage 4 bedsore. The staff would not follow doctor's orders and change his position every 2 hours. They left a (2 rubber gloves tied together) tourniquet tied on his arm after drawing blood, He woke up with his arm hurting. At least one of the nurses didn't wear gloves at all with putting meds in the his IV and giving him meds from the package to his mouth. They really don't care about the patient. read more

My loved one was sent here to get stronger and get weaned off the ventilator that he was put on at HCA. These facilities don't let you stay overnight or come in before 10am so during those hours a lot can go wrong and it does. Who would think that someone is is critically ill and needs care, would be given a tube feed product he was allergic to ? get a broken nose? lose a molar (during oral care?) have to work hard on the ventilator when he was septic and had a fever? and when wound care came in the first time, they were picking at a mole (thinking it was a staple to be removed) My loved one had tears in their eyes and I am glad I was there to stop them or they might have injured him further. Most nurses were unfriendly and one yelled when I asked basic questions. They have meetings in front of your loved ones saying things that can and do frighten the patient. It is too bad because when someone is put on a ventilator , they need time and good care. This place was shocking and everyday things got worse here. read more

Anyone that gives this place a good review is either NOT who they say they are, or someone from the facility. I STILL have nightmares of the HORRIFIC "care" they gave my brother. This place is HELL! He passed away last August and I fully blame this place. i caught them several times lying, they are not compassionate, only care about beds being filled, and keep patients drugged so they can't function. I wrote daily journals of the terrible way he was treated and he was scared being there because he said they were mean. I have photos of bruises, cuts, the room being FILTHY, and his bed with pee because he hadn't been tended too and he was tied down like an animal. That was because I showed up when they weren't expecting me. I tried desperately, to find him a place to go, but unfortunately not in time, plus they hindered that also! If you love someone, DO NOT SEND THEM TO THIS HELL HOLE. They don't know what they're doing! FGS, they had a speech therapist that couldn't even speak good English! They also lost personal belongings. They are UNcaring, have NO empathy, are neglectful, and I STILL say they should be shut DOWN! My husband was transferred to Select Specialty Hospital this past Wednesday from Jacksonville. I was promised I could call any time and talk with his nurse to check on him. Needless to say this has not happened. Yesterday was the only time I spoke with someone. I've called twice and was told his nurse was busy and would call me back. Still waiting on that call. I totally understand he is not their only patient but still a call at some point would be appreciated. I am worried about his care at this point! DONT SEND someone you love there! My brother was restrained on all fours for 5 months, and lost 40 pounds In the first couple of months!! He had a TBI, brain injury from an accident. They have NO IDEA how to care for someone like that. They "claim" they tried to feed him, but I saw NO untensils opened to feed him with when I went to visit, so they LIE! Case managers threatened me multiple times, because all they care about is GETTING THEIR MONEY! They have people that sit and watch their phones with ear phones in so they can't watch patients. They say call anytime to get updates or info, but NEVER answer the phones, or tell you they'll call you back and NEVER do! So many horrible things happened there, I can't BEGIN to list them all! Lazy, no empathy, and some nasty employees! IF YOU LOVE YOUR FAMILY DO NOT SEND THEM THERE! Should be shut down! We tried to find a place for him to go, but they hindered that also, because they wanted money from his VA! They kept him so they could make money! They only care about FILLING THE BEDS, And getting money! We had "family conferences", and told them our concerns, and they did NOTHING! DO YOUR RESEARCH ON THEM, there's PLENTY of it out there and it's not good, we didn't, and our brother suffered for it...many lawsuits. Just be WARNED! read more

My mother-in-law was moved here from North Florida Regional Hospital for specialized wound care. She has a complex health history and this was a perfect fit for her needs. This specialty hospital is located in Shands Hospital on the 5th floor. It is located in its own wing. The facility is very clean and these are private rooms. There is a team of nurses and aids that take care of the patients. The rooms are large and can accommodate several guest visitors. read more

This is such a horrible place to have anyone end up! If you love someone DO NOT let them end up at ANY select specialty hospitals, but especially in Gainesville! They do not care, they do not do anything their website says, and they will kill your loved ones! They have had several lawsuits including negligence and false record reporting since 2009!! Google search if you're not sure! Rhonda Sherrod, CEO, should be ashamed of herself for not doing a damn thing when we brought the lack of care to her attention, but all she did was talk and do nothing! We specifically talked with the director also and NO ONE cares!!! My uncle is 5'6" and was in an accident at 162lbs! Now only 2 months with them and he's lost 40lbs!! They are starving him! They say he won't eat, but they have him tied down by his ankles and wrists and put the food across the room! Yes this happens daily! We are there as much as possible but we are not there 24/7!! If you love the person you are thinking of bringing here please don't. In October of 2019 my sister-in-law had a brain aneurysm she made it through the surgery and was awake, moving her hands and feet and speaking. We moved her here and within 9 days she had bed sores, urinary track infection and she fell out of a chair and hit her head. Two days before she fell we let the staff know we were uncomfortable with her in the chair because she was moving around a lot and they blew us off. When my brother arrived there the staff instead of being caring was trying to blame the fall on my sister-in-law not the fact that they left her sitting there by herself and not strapped in the chair. After a few choice words with them my brother demanded they do a cat scan on her brain and sure enough she had to be rushed in for another brain surgery. Unfortunately since this last surgery she is not speaking or moving her limbs. It has been almost 3 months since her fall and thanks to the staff at this place we do not know what the future holds for her. We are taking it one day at a time and praying everyday. read more
