I mean the ease with which the process moved, from appt setting, to examination/initial assessment to weekly progress. THIS team is the G.O.A.T. They challenge just enough and listen to you when you need them to. I can't say enough about this team.

It took me almost 3 years of living in Worcester to take a risk on a new chiropractor. I had one…read moreabout an hour's drive away, but seeing him was just unsustainable. I wanted someone who would keep me active and not just give spinal adjustments. I came to Dr. Wheelock with some extremely "stuck" tissues thanks to years of pregnancy, ingrained sub-pair movement patterns/imbalances, and admittedly "riding it hard and hanging it up wet". Nothing I did on my own would loosen these muscles. I told Dr. Wheelock, "my goal is to keep running" and he said, "that's my goal for you too." He has taken a truly comprehensive approach to reducing my discomfort AND getting me moving in better ways: effective adjustments, Graston Technique, and giving me personalized exercises to do at home. It is clear that he wants to understand your experience and give you a tailor approach to healing. I have seen excellent improvements working with him - from less irritation to more stable running and weight lifting. His office is extremely welcoming and - as others have noted - relaxing.

After just a few sessions, I noticed improvements. Through multiple sessions, I was able to get to the point of feeling great and only needing maintenance appointments. Unfortunately, five months ago, I changed jobs and my day off coincided with his day off :( I just recently went back (he has early and late appts) and we're trying to undo what damage I reintroduced since I was on this little unplanned hiatus from the office. I feel 100% confident that I will be back in tiptop shape in no time! Dr. Wheelock also made me a fantastic pair of arch supports that have completely changed my life! I can't say enough great things about him. He is extremely knowledgeable and his bedside manner is great as well. I tell all my friends and family to go see him. Run, don't walk, to Dr. Wheelock! If physical therapy relied on personality, owner Terri would get maximum stars. Alas, it takes more…read morethan a smiling countenance and crossed fingers to eradicate pain. Lots of conversation, electrical stimulation that accomplished virtually nothing, very little hands on manipulation after the first couple of visits, stretches assigned to be performed at home (none during office visits) and invariably less than 60 minutes per session did nothing to increase range or motion or diminish pain. My last visit consisted of a 20 minute discourse on how she could do nothing more for me and when I suggested that I didn't think a co-pay was justified for what could have been accomplished over the phone, I thought it adacious of her to say that I was being disrespectful. BVPT was able to get me a next-day appointment with Dr.Jessica Lynch (my savior with the strong hands). My introductory appointment was conducted in a private room and I felt immediately at ease with Jessica. Throughout my treatment she was professional and understanding, she truely listened when I explained my pain and it always felt like she was in my corner. The space, located in one of New England's repurposed mill buildings, is well organized and *clean clean clean*. The lighting is bright without being oppressive (handy when you're staring up at one during an adjustment or exercise) and there is a wide variety of tools aimed to get you back on track/in motion. Our typical session included applied heat, manual manipulation/massage, and guided stretches and strength training followed by ice. When we started I could barely move, but within 6 weeks (going from 2 to 1 session a week) Jessica had me back out and on-track with my health and strength goals. Absolutely would recommend BVPT to anyone in need of physical therapy! Looking forward to returning for Thursday evening (7pm) yoga lead by Jessica and might even take a stab at a TRX class. Everyone here felt familiar and welcoming, so I'm actually looking forward to keeping in touch (certainly not how I've felt with previous PT offices).

In May 2009, Bethany B wrote:…read more The eval went well, the first visit was helpful and then it went down hill. When I arrived for my third visit, I was left in the waiting room for almost 20 minutes. When I was finally retrieved the therapist was irate that I hadn't been started on my heating packs yet. That lasted for most of my visit -- not very relaxing. The visit went way over my 1/2 hour slotted time and I left sore. Not sore but helped, just sore and sad. Oct. 2009 - from Rita: This review happened to catch my eye as I was looking for something else. I am sorry that your experience at SCPT turned out to be far less than satisfactory and can appreciate the frustrations and even inconvenience not keeping to schedule can pose. I decided to join Yelp so I could provide remarks about the care I received at SCPT, as someone who has used this facility for about 6 months straight in 2007 and a few months during 2009. I have also continued in their After-care pgm. (mainly rehab type pool where each of us is given our own exercises based on our specific problems - this is an option, out-of-pocket after P/T runs out). This is a really big plus for me or anyone who needs warm water pool for exercising as there are few to be found. I think if a therapist or therapy is not going too well, it is still worth trying to address the problem with him or her. Another suggestion would be to ask to be assigned to someone else as there are differences between them. By using SCPT for the past 24 mos., I have noticed that they will occasionally run into staffing issues and not each and every visit had run as smoothly as I would have liked. Another important point is that P/T often takes 7-8 sessions before a difference can be felt and yes, I have had problems which made me hurt more first, but as a joint or limb was loosened up or the impingement was released, I started to feel the benefits. It takes time to see results from P/T (no matter where one goes) and also hard work on the patient's part. There were times I wanted to throw in the towel, but I didn't. However, by having used another P/T facility in Auburn as well as trying out P/T at UMass Rehab (on Rt. 9), I found most of the therapists at SCPT to be very dedicated, skilled and hard-working. They do have a unique set-up where the treatment tables are all open and therapists work on patients side by side, often coordinating two patients at a time. And I will admit this took some getting used to, but after a while I no longer noticed who was on table next to me or out on the floor doing exercises. In fact, I'd say this is one key aspect of SCPT which I think folks need to know ahead of time so not to be surprised if/when you start getting therapy there. Most of the therapists are quite skilled and most have gone to learn new techniques or use new tools. But there is a difference between therapists - some will be more aggressive or passive in their style and some will be most attentive and caring. I have a few favorite ones who spent all the time they could to complete a treatment - so going beyond one's schedule time is usually very much appreciated, though I understand if someone has a tight schedule, that may not be best for them. The individualized attention and creativity (things that some of them would come up with and really try to find ways to provide a treatment) far exceeded what I experienced at the other facility and at the hospital. One of my favorite therapists did not need to ask me anything as she could sense (or feel with her hands) if her touch was too heavy or whatever. So, I would at least like to leave others with my opinion and personal experiences of this place. Those are all the positives. For me, since I live closeby, I am also very happy not to have to drive a long ways as sometimes it feels the tension of driving on Rt. 290 will undo a lot of the good accomplished from a treatment. The negatives would be how busy and noisy the treatment hall (don't know what else to call it) can be at times. The positives outweigh the negative aspects for me.
