Review #17 for 2022. Had a great experience with Segway Off Road! Drew was super knowledgeable and friendly. Some colleagues and I did a Segway Off Road tour as a team bonding activity, and we had a blast. Drew was great with teaching us how to use the segways, starting with basic tips and practicing turns, bumps, various speeds, etc. We saw some beautiful sites, and I especially enjoyed Drew sharing about redwood trees, conservation, and how the trees grow. The tour clearly wasn't just about riding segways, which was fun, but it was also educational. Drew was super patient with those in the group who were a little more hesitant. He never made fun of anyone, but rather was always encouraging. Tip: If anyone in the group is unsure of themselves, have them ride at the front of the pack with Drew rather than at the back so he can help them and answer questions. read more

Definitely worth checking out if you're in the Bay Area! I've been on a few of these tours with Drew, and my family and I have always had a great time, and recommend it to friends pretty regularly, especially if you've already done most of the more cliché tours that are available in the Bay. This tour has a few main aspects that make it stand-out: - It's not just for the views! Drew goes the mile to stay knowledgeable about all of the buildings/routes that you go through. I've lived in the Bay my whole life, and I was still able to learn a ton on both his SF and Oakland Hills tours. - These aren't your average Segway's! These are designed with thicker tires that are specifically for off-roading. It makes traversing the city much easier, IMO and especially going through grass/dirt areas. While I don't know much about Segway's, I know Drew was one of the pioneers of this concept. - He has several tours available, at least when we went. Having been on multiple, I can say that each is its own unique experience, and the courses are very well thought-out and well-planned. There are different levels for people who are looking for something more or less adventurous! Definitely worth it!! read more

Me and my group of 9 took Drew's 2 hour tour of Oakland Hills - Redwood Tour on 3/6/2022. Cost was very reasonable to have 2 tour guides and hear historical information about the redwoods, and Chabot Observatory. First 1/2 hour is training through different terrain to learn how to navigate the actual redwood tour with confidence. My husband and I took the 2 hour off-road tour in the Oakland hills. We had never ridden segways before, but the lesson in the beginning was clear and helpful. We also did an "obstacle course" in an empty parking lot to make sure we were comfortable and had the skills for the rest of the trail. Drew is extremely knowledgeable about the area. The tour may be great (wouldn't know, haven't done it), but their customer service sucks! We purchased a 'groupon' deal and called several times to try and set up the tour. For months, there was never any answer. We tried to contact them through email and their website, with no response. When we finally got a hold of someone, they said (rudely I might add) that they have no availability on the weekends for months but that they have plenty of availability of weekdays. For any person that has a job, clearly a weekday would not work. We were aware when we purchased the deal that it might be hard to schedule a weekend date, however, we were not expecting to be ignored by the company for months. We were then asked to call back in 45 days to see if we could schedule anything then. When I advised that our 'groupon' deals would be expired by then, he said, "well, ya know, that's not our problem, availability was never guaranteed". If I were you, I would NOT recommend purchasing a deal through an external party!! read more

First off, this was an absolute blast! My boyfriend, myself & 2 other friends purchased Living Social deals a few months back. And while we did have to wait a couple months for a weekend to accomodate all 4 of us, the wait was TOTALLY WORTH IT!! I figured that the we were just going to get a lesson and ride around through parks for a couple of hours. But the tour was so much more. Drew is so knowledgeable, not only about Segways, but about the history of Oakland Hills. We stopped at the Chabot Science center and left there wanting to buy a membership to experience all of the cool programs he talked about. Also getting a lesson about the Redwoods and seeing it all closeup was fantastic. Now back to the Segway part, you'll watch a video and then practice until everyone is comfortable enough to go hit the road. I'll admit, I was pretty scared at first, as the thought of giving up control to a 2 wheeled machine, kind of freaked me out. But Drew was super patient until I got over my fear of riding it. And once I got the hang of it, I was zipping around all over the place - going uphill, downhill and over bumps with no problem. In fact, I already want to go back! At the end of our tour, we were all so excited and couldn't stop yelling "POTHOLE", "CAR". Once you take the tour, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. =) read more

Ever since I saw Segway Polo at Maker Faire many moons ago, I was fascinated by this two wheeled balancing machines. I've always secretly wanted to try one, but the thought of being "seen" in the city kept me from doing it for years. Well this year, hubby bought a google offer and surprised me with an off-road segway tour. It was AWESOME. Drew was a great teacher and not only led us through Chabot and the redwood forest, but took the time to tell us the history of the area, etc. A stop for lunch was a part of the four hour tour ( the Segways needed to charge up). The meal is NOT included but the restaurant offered a rather generous discount. Things to know: it is NOT as easy as you think. Really take advantage of the learning time. You will need it. Wear comfy shoes. Your feet will hurt. I stand all day and my feet still hurt. Take your time; there is no rush and you are there to have fun. Every year my son (also Drew) and I go to a half dozen or so major league baseball stadiums as part of an MLB Stadium Tour to see all 30 stadiums. We've seen 19 so far and in each city, I sneak in a Segway Tour which my son think is neat because of the Segways, but I think is neat because it teaches him some culture and a little bit about each city. Of all the cities and tours we've been to, Drew is by far the BEST. Not only will he take pictures of where you going and what you're seeing, he takes lots of pictures with you and your group together which is awesome. We had a large group and Drew was able to accommodate us all, with a few last minute additions to our party. The intro training sessions seemed a little tedious but were essential to our experience as first time segway riders and were very much appreciated. Drew was absolutely concerned about safety first! The Redwoods tour was fun and Drew was a great tour guide. Jen was also exceptionally wonderful as she was accommodating and helpful for our less adventurous tour group members. Overall it was fun and we had a blast! We'd do it again if we were in the area (nyc and nj ova here!!).. This was a great Segway off-road tour. Drew, the tour guide is a very patient and talented teacher and spent a fair bit off time training everybody on basic Segway operation and safety. He's very good at keeping an eye on the customers and intervening before anybody gets in a jam. There are a few tricky and non-intuitive things about the segway, and Drew does a great job of teaching them. After the training, we did a great tour of the redwoods. We also toured the park lands surrounding Chabot Museum. Drew has a very good knowledge of Oakland history and of the ecology of the redwood forest. There's a lunch stop at the end at a nice sports bar with surprisingly good food. Advice- wear comfortable shoes. You use your feet more than you would think to shift your weight. Also, bring sunblock and sunglasses. There is a long wait for weekend availability, so plan to book well in advance (at least a month) read more
