Driving by, I see this little sign for chocolates and I have to stop in…read more I walk in and I'm greeted by one of the chocolatiers and owners, welcoming me and explaining all that is on the shelves and more importantly what is NOT on the shelves. We'll get to that later. I find Chocolate grahm crackers, rice crispies, nutter butters, Oreo's, and of course artistic pretzels to name a few. All are hand dipped and decorated beautifully, no machine could make each so perfect. I move on and find chocolate spoons for drinks, I am intrigued by the alcohol infused craft chocolate and then... I see chocolate covered key lime pie! well and others but really? Who thinks of this? Well that is not the end. Every time I stop in, I learn more and more. They offer individualized wedding offerings and other event ideas. They really care about what a consumer may want and ask every time I arrive, what it is I might like to see made on the shelf and sometimes I may get to taste test something new! I'm not going to lie, I mention, I may just like chocolate covered gummy bears. I know not so elegant but they are surprisingly pleasant :) Ok so cost for these items are reasonable and fair. Reasonable enough that I plan to organize something original for the office this holiday season. We had been recommended this spot by a few friends and finally went to enjoy it on a sunny day. The entry way is large with plenty of goodies to purchase if you're interested, including apple cider donuts, pumpkins, fresh honey, pies, and more. You better believe we left with multiple items. So good! Once you pass the barn entrance you come upon a huge open space with a playground, chicken coupon, basketball station, swings, and giant house filled with corn kernels for kids to play in. The landscape is wonderful with little rolling hills and tunnels for kiddos to run on as well. Behind this section you'll find rows and rows of apples for picking. And the most spectacular part, in my opinion, is the area with all of the farm animals! They're so nicely laid out on a path the explore with clever little houses/set ups. And to point out again, everything is very well-kept! Other highlights to note: easy and ample parking, picnic tables to hang out by for a snack/lunch, a food truck on site as well as other eats you can purchase from the farm inside of the barn entrance. We thoroughly enjoyed this spot and will no doubt return next year.

Stopping at Jorns was one of my favorite things about my visit to Door County. I have never seen a…read moregallon of maple syrup before today but let me tell ya, if I used it often enough and had the patience to decant in into smaller bottles to her at home I may have bought one. Drive slowly as you're heading to Jorns, because this is truly one of those "blink and you'll miss it" type experiences. And even when you've found the place and then start to enter the drive, you'll think you've made huge a mistake and are being lured into something nefarious since it's surrounded by trees. But then you see the little shack in the back, with the weathered sign welcoming you to Jorns Sugar Bush. There's no parking lot; there are a couple parking-space-like empty spots in the midst of this copse of trees. It was such a true pleasure to meet Roland Jorn. I was not expecting to have a chat with the 96-year-old proprietor of the maple shack on my way out of Door County, but it was fun to learn about him, and his family--and even the murder mystery that exists in their distant past. I had my sleepy toddler with me and he was delighted to meet her too. I haven't tried the maple syrup yet. But I've heard plenty that this is the place to get it so I can't wait to give it a try. Jorn's helpers were in the background filling bottles of syrup, and they're able to sell via the internet if you go to their site. The place is cash only, so make sure to stop at the ATM on your way in.
