I didn't care for my time at New Bridge. The place is old and cold. Drafty windows and only a few…read morebathrooms. I did get sober but had a lot of medical issues in which the nurses on duty have no medical training on. The nurses only know how to take blood pressure and temperatures and give out meds that's it. One nurse Miquel who isn't a very sympathetic person doesn't care about the people there and it shows. The food is horrible they tend to cook alot of fish and Asian vegetables. Alot of people bring their own food to eat. If your spending good money to go to this place you would think they would have better food. A more rounded menu. This place isn't good for handicap people because it's not ADA . Lots of stairs. There was one nurse who was awesome there, his name was Feral not sure on the spelling but thats how his name sounds. He was the night nurse and he really cared and loved to talked. I won't miss this place and this wasn't my choice to go to. Kaiser made me go to this place. Just do your homework before jumping into any rehab.

First off I was sexually assaulted multiple times at the direction of the staff. Multiple times while I was living at Aisha house my medication that I kept in my drawers were switched. At night I would take them and I was assaulted multiple times. On one occasion I remember being passed out, more like paralyzed. I remember my face being held into a pillow while being r@ped. I can still remember the pain till this day. After this, the head counselor at the time Richard was making fun of me in group laughing indirectly saying that it was one of the roommates at Aisha house at the time Ricky. Ricky was one of the Federal Clients. In the Bridge One Program people who are facing serious Federal time undergo "Behavioral Modifications". The experience I had made me realize the extent to which the Federal Government holds control and the 'keys to freedom' for these people. I can only image what else goes on behind closed doors. This program can only be described as government experimentation and exploitation and all the staff are complicit. Bridge One follows a cult like format in which everyone refers to each other as "family" like Manson or something And they have to be completely obedient and submissive to all the staffs desires. In addition to this I had been fighting the VA for my pension and disability at this time. Whenever I went to the VA after these assaults, they would just write me off, Strange. None the less, I would not suggest going here at all. Especially if it's on the governments dime in someway. In sharing my experience, hopefully others that I know are also being exploited at this very moment feel safe enough to come forward. YOU KNOW WHO I AM. -Tyrone

It's straight forward stuff but not necessarily easy to put into practice, so the hands on is helpful. I've been really impressed with the instructors I've met thus far. I think classes like this should be required for everyone, we can all stand to be kinder to ourselves and others.

i'm in a writers' group on zoom and i treasure each meeting. we help one another with friendly…read morecritiques of our writing and enjoy one another's writing style/subjects. i've been in this group for two years now, and am grateful to ashby village for steering me there. when i need a ride outside paratransit's parameters, i send an email to ashby village asking for a volunteer to drive me on my errand(s). i'm finally trying to downsize and a volunteer, as well as one of the members of my writing group. is going to help me i would have given AV a 5 rating, but, as someone else mentioned, the person who first interviewed me on the phone was unfriendly, not at all empathetic and when we said "goodbye", i was licking my wounds. her sharp tongue, and her inability to listen should disqualify her from ever interviewing someone for membership in AV. during the conversation, she stated, coldly, that i was probably too disabled to qualify for membership. i'm sure she's scared other people away. i wasn't that easily scared; just very angry. thank you to ashby village; its wonderful staff and volunteers. you bring much joy into your members' lives.

As far as Toastmasters clubs go, Berkeley Communicators (as this one is known) does a fine job…read more It's a small group (usu. under 10), so your opportunity to address the group comes more often. As you might expect in Berkeley, this is a diverse group; but most importantly, unintimidating. Since they meet early in the morning (7:30) and every other week (alt Thur), it's less disruptive to your day and your month. Some of the members provide great evaluations and insight into improving your speaking skills. It might get noisy in Au Coquelet Cafe, but not so bad that you're fully distracted. A couple useful exercises: 1) Table topics. They throw out a totally impromptu topic (at you), and you speak on it in some capacity for 2-3 minutes. It really helps with the impromptu thing. 2) Writing a speech for the audience. While I knew how to do this going in, it did help as a "for dummies" style reminder that build upon levels such as telling a story & incorporating gestures and props. They will also mercilessly beat you down regarding being under/over time, not projecting properly, and using too many "uhm's" etc. Guests are always welcome.

She does not provide a chart for your child.. so you can't get chart notes from her should you choose another therapist. She would not implement any holistic approaches for our child. Painting pictures and making puppets is about all she provided for our child. Honestly we would have been better off with a school counselor. As a student of College Internship Program, I have been subjected to quite a few of their…read moreexperiences. One of these reviews said it helped, two others, written by one of the students sons' and his mother, were extremely negative. I'm going to attempt to make this review as non-biased and accurate as I can. It all started out with a lie. I had no idea what to do with my life, so I met up with several staff on their campus who tried to sell me on the program. One of the people was their residential coordinator, and he, among other people, told me things that were untrue. The most prominent one I can think of is saying I could go just about anywhere on the weekends for as long as I'd like. Turns out there was a curfew. This was one of many things they've said. After talking with many of the students, especially the saner ones, I got confirmation I was not the only one they did this to. So I got let in. I ended up going in very last minute, and missed orientation, so I was more unprepared than any other student. I've heard of the staff saying you NEED to attend orientation, and that there are a limited number of people they can let in. Given that people are let in last minute every year, such as myself, I question the truth of that. Anyways. The idea of the program is that they can take all your things and rights/privileges (depending on how you define it) and build you up bit by bit. They took away everything that gave me any sort of independence, as they do to everyone else. Drove me crazy. Sooner or later, they started giving me my independence back, but it was never enough until I got out of the program. There's a reason some students don't succeed at this program and others do. Many don't try, or just flat out refuse to try. This program works best for people who have motivation to do well. They try to motivate the other students, but often the program falls flat on its face. This program gave me friends, and skills I need to survive in the real world. I appreciate it for everything it has done for me, but if I had one piece of advice it would be this: Make sure that your child has the motivation or want to make something out of themselves. Otherwise it's useless and a giant money pit. I'm giving this three stars instead of one, or five, because it is a mixed bag. The price is very high, and you should check out other options as well. That said, it was worth the money to me, and to a handful of other people in the program as well, but make sure your child is prepared for a long, uphill struggle. It's only worth it in the end if you start climbing the mountain in the first place.
