So glad i found this place on yelp! In search of a really good authentic parilla, I decided to try out my somewhat sometimes trusty yelp app. I tend to trust the locals more than the tourists as to what connotes good food in their country and so relied on the 7 positive reviews from the Porteños - and sooooooo glad I did. As the name implies secret parilla does not have a sign outside and all the windows are blacked out - however look for the address and listen for the clanking of plates and glasses and lots of happy chatter and you will find the door to the entrance. Just ring the bell and head in. What's great about this place is that is it very local, we were the only non locals there. Most of the seats on the first floor were reservation only but fortunately we were able to get seated on the second floor in the Miranda. As in any good asado we ordered the usual - chorizo, morcilla, molleja, chinchulin, and then for the main cut we decided on the bife de chorizo - with all these meat we had to garnish it with a salad for ruffage and a nice Malba Malbec with soda to wash it down. First the atmosphere was great - just a regular place with locals getting together wth their friends... Secondly the food was incredible....the meats were all delectable - really this is what a good parilla is, the waitress were really nice, and it's at a price that will make you smile. I definitely recommend getting off the beaten path and discover the secret parilla

One star for the creative experience of making it feel like a top secret local experience. You arrive and it looks like a closed business of some sort. No sign outside. No way to tell there a whole busy restaurant going on. I felt like child included in the big kids club of food wonder hehehe. Two stars because their quantities are HUGE. My God. My boyfriend ordered what he thought was one order of beef for him and one order of rabas (calamari ) for me as a side. Figure we cut the ribeye in half and share. Then one order of wine. What we got was TWO FAT SLABS of beef, I had to do a double take and ask repeatedly "is this one order? This is one order? One order is all this?" She got a kick out of my shock. The calamari was a serving for like four people. And the wine was a little bottle that served about two and a half glasses of wine. It took us two hours to eat half of our food. We had to take the rest to go. You definitely get a bang for your buck. I subtract 2 stars because our waitress was too busy to attend us. I had a hard time getting her attention as she buzzed around and when I finally got her, she was so quick to run off before I could finish making my request. I had to tell her wait wait don't leave. I'm not done. Also, this conversation. Me: can i have sauce for the calamari? Waitress: okay. What kind of sauce do you want? Me: what do you got? :) Waitress: we don't have any :) Me: lol. Ranch? Waitress: nope. Me: mustard? Waitress grabs a bottle and places it on our table. But the table over has sauce! On top of that, when we paid the bill with cash cause they don't take credit, the waitress kept the change without even asking if she could. Not like we weren't going to tip her. I used to waitress and I know how hard it can be, but I also understand that tipping is earned and not expected so I always give people their change back no matter how much it is. It's their money to make the choice. After waiting a while for our change we asked for the receipt to give her a clue that we expect our change. She came back with the receipt clearly stating she helped herself to a tip. That's just rude. Idk if she thought we were dumb tourists who wouldn't know better or if she really felt she deserved it. We were going to tip you lady, even though you were not that good of a waitress because I saw you were also busy. You could have gotten a bigger tip if you would have brought my change back. You guys, make sure you give exact change if you want to decide how much you want to tip. Food flavor: it was okay. Nothing amazing. Calamari batter was meh. Beef was plain. Id say go more so for the experience of secrecy and huge servings.

The seafood wontons were delicious, and my husband had the catch of the day with tacu tacu (a Peruvian dish that is rice, beans and spices) that was fantastic! I had the seafood spaghetti and it was delicious with a silky sauce that coated the noodles perfectly . The ceviche (Asian style) was the standout of the meal though-made with the catch of the day- it had sesame oil, chilis, and crushed peanuts on it , in a fresh citrus dressing. We loved our meal here! The piece sours are good too! Reservations are a must!

Everything else I eat was very disappointing. The causa.... Why call it a causa.... A causa it is not... And flavor wise was very lacking... Moving on to the pasta and breaded fish . The pasta was horrible. It was the first time in my life I couldn't finish pasta. On my book (as an Italian) it is sacrilegious to throw it away but that's what Happen and the fish was very bland and didn't tasted fresh at all. A shame I won't be coming back.

About a 20 min Uber ride from our Airbnb apartment, it also allowed us a glimpse into Palmero. We made online reservations through their WhatsApp number. Quickly seated around 7.30pm before the crowd started to arrive. Fortunately, our server spoke English too. The fried seafood appetizer was a large tasty portion of shrimp and calamari. The server provided additional red sauce when requested. My pisco sour was very good although a bit too much whipped whites on the top. Recommend to request on the rocks next time. The table next to us, ordered a salad which was very large, probably an appetizer for 4! Service was very polite and not too slow. I enjoyed the fresh river fish for my entree. We skipped dessert as we had been eating at too many bakeries every morning for breakfast! Palermo in that area around 9pm or so was not very exciting. Other restaurants and lots of food delivery bicycle riders hanging about.... It would be nice to return with more of a plan to explore the area. Easy to request a ride back to Recoleta and catch some sights along the way!

Very pretty place, with two dining rooms on the ground and first floor, the latter having a small…read moreterrace off of it, and then another level up, a full rooftop terrace, where the four of us decided to lunch. Here, the menu is focused on just freshwater fish. Among ten appetizers and nine main courses, all are freshwater fish, with the exception of one vegetarian and one meat dish in each category. As of our visit, the freshwater fish on offer were pacú, dorado, boga, and surubí. Three of us went for delicious deep-fried surubí empanadas! And served with hot sauce on the side on request. 45 pesos apiece. You get little complimentary ramekins of pickled white butter beans, and they were so good, we ordered up a full appetizer order of them. A bit steep at 180 pesos for the small sized bowl that we got - for that price, this bowl ought to be full! Stick with the free ones. A good ceviche - the flavors were all there, though surprisingly, given the fish choices, the one they use for the ceviche is the boga, which has a kind of chewy texture to it naturally. I think we all would have liked it more if made with surubí, a classic of littoral cuisine up along the Paraná river. It did need a little more heat, even with the requested "make it picante" - so we added some of the hot sauce from the empanadas. 350 pesos. Two of our number ordered up the grilled pacú, our waiter swiftly returned to let us know that the only pacú in house were huge, and the kitchen recommended just one order of a big fillet to share. Good choice, and they gave us a price discounted to somewhere between one and two orders. Perfectly cooked, rich, and served with a choice of sides - french fries, mashed potato, grilled vegetables; plus rice. 370 pesos regularly, we got the double version for 600. Our waiter highly recommended his personal favorite, the grilled dorado with leek cream sauce. Excellent! Even with the grilled head staring at us. But that turned out to be a plus, because of course, there's that delicate cheek meat that's so good... 450 pesos One of the group, of course, had to be contrary, and ordered the ribeye steak. Cooked just the way he ordered it. The accompaniments a little odd - a sort of fruity wine sauce, and a very bizarre mix of mashed potatoes and smoked eggplant that didn't work texturally or flavorwise. 370 pesos The one other disappointment, the "grilled vegetables" which turned out to be just a few strips of grilled vegetables laid atop a bowl of undressed arugula. If that's what you're offering, let us know that, because that's not a "side of grilled vegetables", at least not in our book. They were tasty, just too few of them, and the salad was like an afterthought. All in all, love the space, great service, it's a delight to have a place for freshwater fish in town again. And, for the most part, great food. For all the above food, plus three rounds of fresh brewed iced tea, and tip, we spent 2400 pesos, 600 apiece.

A distinguished and very fine seafood restaurant in Palermo Hollywood…read more Expensive. That is your problem. Not theirs. Reservations only. Don't count on talking your way in at the door. This is true even if the restaurant will be 2/3 empty all night. This is because, more than any other restaurant I have encountered ... The house is absolutely positively averse to food waste. They want to know EXACTLY how many people are coming every night. They buy just enough food To serve exactly X dishes to customers - a number known in advance, And throw away exactly Y dishes - the dishes that customers did not order. They know exactly what X and Y will be every night. When my wife and I were the first people in the restaurant, And we both ordered Salmon with Miso - we found there was just one copy of that dish that would be served that night. My wife got the one copy. From both a business standpoint and the point of view of managing quality in the kitchen, this policy makes total sense. Other restaurants don't do this or don't have to do it ... But I see what Chipper is trying to accomplish. * * * Everything we had at Chipper was utterly superlative. My wife's one dish of Salmon with Miso was dramatically good. However, I got a house staple ... The pasta with seafood sauce. This is a dish for which they are known, So they make a lot of this one. The seafood pasta would easily justify the reputation of the establishment. It is an utterly satisfying wonderful dish. The only other place I have had seafood pasta this good Was in an Argentine diaspora restaurant in Leme in Rio de Janeiro. I have thought about that dish for years. Chipper's stands in fine company with that legendary Rio de Janeiro bowl of pasta. * * * Desserts may be wonderful at Chipper. But keep in mind, Chipper is a few doors away from Alchemy. Alchemy is one of the finest if not the finest ice cream shops in Buenos Aires. Never never never never never never turn down a chance to get ice cream at Alchemy. So we did the morally right thing. But for appetizers and main courses, You are not going to beat Chipper if you like fish. Yeah, you have to make administrative arrangements to get into the place. But you have to make administrative arrangements to fly to Buenos Aires in the first place. * * * Both sets of complex administrative arrangements are worth it.

They have a particularly nice clam chowder, very easy to recommend. In fact, i recommend it. Try sitting on the patio in winter with a bowl of their soup. So worth it. Only real downside i can see is the price; it's not a cheap place to eat. I think it's worth the price, but i'm accustomed to paying San Francisco prices.
