The North Hills spot ( 4421 Six Forks Road in Raleigh, beside Total Wine) feels settled in the best way. Comfortable, Welcoming, Cozy. We started slowly. A wine flight. Truffle fries with truffle aioli, parmesan, oregano. Marinated olives layered with citrus and herbs. Nothing too over the top, but generous and satisfying. The kinds of plates you keep reaching for without realizing it. For dinner, we had the the NY Strip (North Carolina pasture-raised Angus with Diane sauce and a French onion potato gratin). And the roasted whole fish (with hazelnut gremolata, citrus beurre blanc, and confit sunchoke). Both cooked to perfection, nothing missing, and absolutely delicious. What stuck with us the most htough, the service. Ben and Oscar were sharp, attentive, and present without being overbearing. They made the evening feel even more incredible. Some places try hard to impress - Foxcroft Food & Wine just delivers (time and time again).

The business was clean and there is also a bar inside. The restaurant has a large selection of wines and offers flights for purchase. The restaurant had some people dining in but they were not overly packed. Initially our server was pleasant and attentive. I got a blood orange sparkling water. It was ok. I ordered the whipped ricotta for an appetizer to share and a burger with fries for my entree. The whipped ricotta was ok. It would taste better with some sort of seasoning in it. My fries were served hot but needed some salt. I asked for my burger to be cooked well done but I was brought a burnt burger. I took one bite but it was too overcooked. I then requested that my server have my burger be cooked medium well so I didn't get another burnt burger. When my burger was brought back out, our server had me cut into my burger to make sure it was to my liking. The preparation was better but it was bland and tasted like there wasn't any seasoning on it. After this our server wasn't as attentive anymore. For dessert we got the donuts. They were served warm and I enjoyed them with the cherry sauce. I did not like the chocolate sauce that was served with the donuts.

I assume it's really hard to grab one of those, but luckily there's also a free parking garage nearby, so that's where we ended up parking. Inside, there is a combination of standard table seating and a few couches here and there. My wife grabbed a glass of wine while I ordered a beer, and everything was pretty reasonably priced. As expected, the wine selection was much more extensive than the beer selection :) The staff were polite and attentive throughout. We also shared a plate of hummus and crackers and everything was pretty tasty. Overall, I'd definitely come back here if I was in the area and wanted to chill out for a bit.

For $15 you can pick three meats or cheeses and they have add-ons like pickles, jams and olives for an extra $1-$2. You absolutely should try the prosciutto and goat Brie, as well as the sweet pickles and fig jam, delicious! I paired this with two classic of their Pinot Gris. Although, I went alone this is a perfect group setting and/or date night spot! Service was quick and the bartender was extremely knowledgeable. However, the atmosphere is fairly low key, although there were a lot of people here dressed up (business parties?). The tapas were not my thing. I actually hate tapas and sharing small plates. It's never enough food. We had calamari/goat cheese/margherita flat bread. The calamari was sub par and the goat cheese was too small a portion. The flatbread was good. My meal, pan seared scallops, was a really good. The scallops were huge! Loved the garlic mashed potatoes! Would highly recommend! Service was quick. The only downside I had was the massive gout in my toe the following day from eating all those large scallops. If you are prone to gout, be weary of the scallops!

Typically restaurants that have open main dining areas cause a lot of noise which can make it difficult for polite conversation, but I won't knock that against them. Service was pleasant and attentive. The server admitted the kitchen was running behind and gave us a free bread basket and kept our drinks full. The portions were well sized. What prevents this restaurant from being "S Tier" is that there's nothing unique or exceptional about the restaurant. It is exactly what you'd expect but nothing more. Parking was easy with the parking garage nearby. I would certainly return and recommend to others.

Christmas time is beautiful, as they decorate the ceiling with garments and ornaments and other decorations around the massive restaurant, but reservations are needed no later than 6 months in advance. If you're fine waiting 3 hours for a table max, then you will be fine. Every single time we come to Angus Barn, something is different. Now they give you a soup or salad with your meal, along with bread! The cheese and crackers are famous among the people and are a great way to start your meal. The bread is so fresh also! All components in their house salad is great. Everything is awesome! The prime rib is tender and has such good flavor. Their mac n' cheese is the way to go. Their recipe is constantly changing. Like what I previously said, something is different every time you come to Angus Barn. The chocolate chess pie is the best I've had. This is a MUST when dining at Angus Barn. You HAVE to get the chocolate chess pie. The service is some of the best in the restaurant business and all do a great job at explaining things. So kind and professional! Once again, if you're around Raleigh and don't come to Angus Barn, you are missing out. I highly recommend you come. So good!

The reason for the low rating is the food. My colleagues could not believe that I ordered the liver entree, but I didn't care, I love liver, and my wife won't fix it. I'd never heard of Mustard-Seared Calves' Livers, but, loving liver the way I do, I was willing to try it. When the liver came out, it looked like a huge pile of greasy slop. I was not deterred and took a bite. The liver was mush; it had absolutely no texture, and the taste was just awful. Not wanting to tempt fate (I have had food poisoning before), I did not eat any more than that first bite. As I mentioned before, the waiter was excellent and removed the offending entree. He offered to put in an order for something else. I opted for the calamari appetizer, which was okay. They comped my calamari and didn't charge for the liver. I hope the restaurant will rethink this dish. I suppose it could have a following, but at the very least, make sure the liver is fresh and high-quality.

We were greeted by a friendly hostess and the staff throughout the evening was welcoming and professional. The food truly stood out. Everything was flavorful, well-portioned, and thoughtfully put together. Highly recommend the broiled oysters, lobster crab cake, crab bisque, center-cut filet, and ahi tuna -- all were delicious. Even better, everything came out quickly and at the perfect temperature. Daniel was our server and he was fantastic -- very attentive, personable, and kept things flowing smoothly without being intrusive. The atmosphere does lean toward the louder side, so it's probably not the best spot if you're looking for a super intimate or quiet evening. One small hiccup: our reservation was initially for a standard table, but we were first directed to a high-top. After clarifying the reservation details, the hostess did correct it and seated us appropriately. Our booth table itself was clean, but the bench seating and the floor underneath could use a bit more attention. There was a piece of bread under the table (from a crab bisque -- we recognized it because we ordered one) that had been dropped and crushed, which likely hadn't been noticed during turnover. Overall, the food and service were strong enough that we'd definitely return -- just hoping for a bit more consistency on seating and table-area cleanliness next time.
