This is about as close as you're going to get. We slept in a bed in a room on the first floor of this gigantic house. We arrived late at night. In the morning we walked outside and were stunned by the views! We walked down to the water and were again stunned by the insanely cute/cool cabins. You know the insanely remote, girls-only, tree-house you wanted as a young boy? These kind of fit the bill. I should probably try and stay at them eventually. If you're an uptight travel used to staying in sterile hotels and having your hand-held about every little thing, you should probably check out the Best Western/Holiday Inn/Motel 6 instead. You probably won't like it here.

We didn't really get to appreciate and enjoy them to the full extent since we arrived so late, went promptly to bed, and had to get up early in the morning. But based on the amenities and location, this is definitely one place I would return to if I were ever to find myself in Homer again. Check in was a little strange, being that you had to check in in a separate spot outside of town. But other than that, the entire check in process was smooth. The space itself was clean, conveniently located, and the bed was phenomenal! We enjoyed the jetted tub and the clear skies and beautiful views of the water. Walking distance from the harbor, several restaurants, and shops, this is the place to stay in Homer! Just beware, that if you stay here in the off-season, you are pretty much out on the spit by yourself with almost no amenities available. We ended up eating at McDonald's because it was the only thing open in Homer at 8 PM on a Wednesday night.

The lodges are right on the beach at end of Homer Spit, and there was some maintenance construction happening on two or three lodges while we were there--inside the apartment, it was completely silent, though. The radiant heat flooring was a nice touch, and it was great to have direct beach access through the back door. This place also has incredibly soft, fluffy bath towels--this is one place hotels often scrimp, so I am always appreciative of great towels. The shower was a bit tricky to figure out, but an employee answered the off-hours phone line and walked us through it.

It is a shared bathroom situation here which I'm not always keen on but it was never an issue, was easy. Door locks and a nice hot shower. The staff was very friendly and talked to the woman at the front desk for a bit and then across the street talked to her daughter at AJ's restaurant. I felt like I was part of the town for a minute there. There's a great restaurant across the street (AJ's), like about thirty feet away and Bunnell Street Art Center next to that. Electric wine opener and other knick knacks to match. Bottle opener. Very comfortable king sized bed with carpet along the side and tile underneath. Which meant your bare feet weren't on cold floor. The bathroom had a fan that shoots out hot air. In many ways, it had the homey touch of an Air Bnb or a VRBO. Dish Network. There were a few confusions at checkin (I had two reservations since I was partially in town for work) but they smoothly worked through it with us!

The Wheelhouse where we stayed has a nautical theme with a full size ships wheel facing the front window overlooking Kachemak Bay and the mountains behine the Bay. This is a large 2 story cabin and just my wife and I stayed here so there was plenty of room, which we both enjoyed immensly. Donna's main "Goto" guy is Ric who did a tremendous job of introducing us to the ammenities that the property offered. All appliances are modern and worked perfectly. The kitchen shelves and the refrigerator were stocked with most every accoutrement and essential spice one could desire to make themselves feel at home. Donna had tbutter, banana bread, apples and bananas ready for our stay. The beds were quite comfortable as were the couches and chairs in the living room. The bookshelves and many nooks abounded with reading material pertaining to the Kenai Peninsula area as well as history of Homer itself. I definitely will recommend this place to anyone who is tired of the hotel and motel life and wants to expand their horizons and relax a bit.

I'm not sure you'll find any better than this property. I'd return in a heartbeat at a different time of the year when there's more going on.

The cabin was comfortable had all the expected amenities and was perfect for a weekend getaway.
