This place is an absolute disaster and disappointment for our last 2 days in Alaska. It's old but not just that, the floors are dirty and stained, the bathroom is tiny and offers no amenities, one tiny hook in the corner. The shower head is from 1970, it trickled out and when I tried to move it, it sprayed in all different directions. The shampoo and conditioner and body wash are the cheapest. Like motel 6 from 30 years ago. How awful. We got the king size Loft, while the bedroom itself is OK. The bed is decently, comfy and clean. The downstairs sitting area is gross. The chairs are old and stained. The bathroom again is just awful and there's one tiny countertop with a sink. For almost $500 per night. This place is not only a disaster and a disappointment, and I feel that the website does not display the actual amenities. Just know you will be sorely and utterly disappointed. It's one of the worst places I've ever stayed. Had I known better, I'd have chosen different accommodations like an Airbnb or another hotel. Please don't waste your money. read more

We arrived on Wednesday afternoon after 4 pm. We had reservations for a King Sized bed Room on the third floor. The room was clean, and ready for us. There were plenty to towels for our three nights stay. I really enjoyed the view, at the end of the building, and the relaxed/quiet atmosphere. I actually feel incredibly rested from a lovely three nights. I was just a little bit confused about who call or what to do in emergency situations. Usually there's some kind of booklet available, no but if you want just text housekeeping you can easily do that and housekeeping did text after checking in and they responded quickly. There was no "do not disturb sign placement card available." But we just texted housekeeping and let them know our preferences. There is a QR code, but no one seemed to let my spouse know that we could use the QR code to look up information. Given that we are an older couple, I think a few moments to just give us a heads up would have been helpful. I know how dial room service, but we are of a different generation, just a second of a heads up about said service/information would have been appropriate. And could have gotten Lands End a better rating. The King sized bed needed two more pillows, you might want to ask for two more, or bring your own. The pillows were mediocre quality, and flat. And maybe an additional blanket for sitting in the chairs looking forward out onto the ocean. And just one other suggestion, a spray hose that can be moved in the shower. I like a stationary shower head, but sometimes some people like a moveable shower head. The room was excellent, except what we had simple concerns about. I loved the room, and the relaxation. I would rent this room again. And now that I know what I know, we figured things out ourselves. And now you know. The King sized bed/room was a little over 200$ a night. I am sure we could find cheaper accommodations, but this was our 45 th Wedding Anniversary Date so we just wanted the Land End Hotel. Definitely worth a trip and a visit in the winter time here in Alaska. Homer Alaska is always great to visit and enjoy.. read more

Hay Alaska residents don't waste your money at this place it is run down. The hot tub was disgustingly filthy. The windows were hard to see out because of all the dirt on them . The ice machine didn't work the TV and Internet had issues with it the whole time. Front desk, girls were very nice and polite, but their hands are tied because of the condition of the hotel. read more

I love this resort and visit every year. The view of the bay and beach is awesome and the sound of waves restful. One can even catch glimpses of otters and abundant types of birds cruising the shoreline. The rooms are clean, modern and well kept up; and especially quiet. The restaurant is nice, the staff helpful and anxious to please. I was especially please with the vegetables plated with my ribeye steak, steamed soft whole yellow and red carrots, with zucchini, squash and mashed potatoes. Definitely A plus dining :) read more

This was one of the worst hotels I stayed in. It literally felt like a sauna day and night. You will not be able to get any sleep at all throughout the night. My family and I kept waking up many times throughout the night, and the fan could not even keep up with the heat. The beds are not comfortable at all. My dad and I woke up with our backs hurting so bad. On top of that, we booked the swimming pool but the lady at the front desk never told us that we had to book the hot tub and pool separately when she was showing us what we would get if we reserved an appointment. Which lead to us getting kicked out of the hot tub and dealing with karens. Overall just not a good stay at all. read more

Spent two nights here while in Homer for a fishing trip. Check in was quick and they had us in our room quickly. We stayed in the older part of hotel. Room was clean and everything was fine. Had the feeling of an old seafarer hotel in our section. Nice bonus was the deck with two chairs. Bed was a little small for two adults so we used the trundle bed for both of us. Did not use the restaurant or bar. They have a coffee shop where you can get coffee and light breakfast items before you fish. Nice thing of Homer Spit is you can walk most anywhere from the hotel. read more

What a place, we'd booked online headed from Anchorage. On our way we was given a courtesy call saying the room we booked was under construction, they gave us a free upgrade. It was beautiful viewing of the ocean, rooms were clean and even though part of the building was under construction it was still peaceful. Our family stayed for New Years during coronavirus times. Face masks required for everyone at the check-in desk. Our lodge was clean and sanitized, and we enjoyed the huge bay window, fireplace, and vaulted ceiling and windows that let us see a grand view of Kachemak Bay and Cook Inlet. Most of all, we enjoyed the Chart Room Restaurant's safe dining environment to celebrate two birthdays. We had a round table near the windows and away from any other diners. Our waiters wore face masks, and Meagan waited on us and she had a great sense of humor to add to our enjoyable dinner and celebration. We have been served by her on past visits to the Chart Room during day trips. We enjoyed brussels sprouts appetizers, prepared two ways. Several had the Halibut fish and chips, a pasta dish, and hamburgers. Everyone enjoyed their meals. read more

We stayed in one of the beachfront lodges (710) which was perfect for two people. The pictures on-line do not do justice to the place. It is very spacious, well appointed and has everything you need for a great stay. The deck is right by the water with great views of the mountains and wildlife. Very easy walking distance to all amenities on the spit. (We did drive to the ferry location, but in retrospect could easily have walked there as well). We enjoyed the restaurant and morning coffee service. It is not cheap, but definitely worth the price if you want space to spread out, be waterfront and have ability to cook if interested. read more

I came here for a Convention at the beginning of October. I was sharing a room with a friend (she'd reserved the room online, i was just gonna give her cash for my half of the bill) and as it was a 2 night stay, it turns out, I'm paying 1 night, she pays the other - very fair. She said she had requested a room on the upper floor when she booked, but when we got there, the front desk had no record of her booking (I'm not surprised tbh, her technological skills are somewhat lacking) fortunately, they found us a room, but it was on the lower floor. The rate we paid was extremely reasonable, tanks mostly due to the desk clerk i think, rather than my friend. As i have dreadful back pain, i was grateful not to have to climb stairs. The room however, seemed hugely far away from the lobby, which was where most of our Speakers and Workshops were located. This meant walking quite a way, which hurt my back. So she had to keep driving us from the Lobby to our room. Had this been mentioned beforehand, I'm sure they'd have accommodated us, but with it being a convention, i don't think too many rooms were left. In my opinion, whilst it's a fairly decent hotel, the common areas are somewhat dated, and i think for such a landmark hotel, a gradual remodel wouldn't hurt. Not everything needs done all at once, but maybe an area at a time, during non-tourist season. This hotel has the best views, literally. Beautiful sea views, i don't know if that's the case in every room, but ours was stunning. We had 2 queen beds, and a beautifully remodeled bathroom from the one i stayed in last time i was here 5years ago. Huge luxury bathtub, with a standalone feature faucet in the corner, beautiful frosted glass separate enclosed shower cubicle. I particularly liked the way the light switches operated. The room had microwave, refrigerator, all the usual things you'd expect. Hotel has a coffee shop with Gift items for sale. They have 2 hot tubs, an indoor pool, a sauna, but you need to book an appointment for the hot tubs. The indoor pool is small, and could be improved. I've never gotten to try the sauna, as it was locked the 1st time i stayed, and it was occupied this time. The hot tub was ok, but i prefer Chena Hot Springs hot tubs. The best things about these ones are that they have a sea view. There is entirely too much foam floating around on it, that you have to keep trying to sweep off the water surface. The restaurant is pretty good, though i did not go there this time (i was there 5 years ago, and it was good) but our Convention was catered by the Hotel, and the food was very good. I had a Chicken Alfredo with Garlic bread and i was beautifully creamy, with tender chicken. The salad and dessert were good too. It wouldn't take too much to modernize this Alaskan Landmark, and i think it's a good resort, especially for tourists to come and stay. One point of note, i went to use a bathroom on the lower floor near the lobby, and a staff member was sitting with cleaning supplies waiting to clean it. When we get out of workshops or speakers, there will naturally be a rush for bathrooms, but i did feel awkward that i needed to pee, as she declared we needed to hurry so she could clean. I understand she may have been having a bad day, and that people continually kept coming to use the facilities were disrupting her work schedule, but it's a Convention weekend and it's obviously busy. read more

The bartender Calvin was so acomidating to a refreshing drink made with Malibu in it!!! We didn't try the restaurant for two reasons: we were quite late arriving - just before closing; and the prices, like most prices in Alaskan restaurants, were quite steep. Well they re-booked us into an ADA room in the newer part of the hotel. They said the older part of the hotel didn't have any ADA rooms. The new room was about double the price. I actually enjoy that this place hasn't gone full-on, uber-fancy like so many hotels in Alaska have or have tried to. You can get get a room, with a balcony view of the freakin' beach...for $125ish in the off-season! That is AWESOME! And really, you're here for the view anyway, right? Who cares if your bed is massive or if the room service is extensive or if the restaurant is world-class? I do not! Well. As soon as I walked into my room, the smell of cigarettes assaulted me. Gross. I'm sensitive. So I matched right back to the lobby to request a clean room. The manager actually walked over to said room and deemed it not so bad and suggested that it was from fires that folks had made on the beach. This was ridiculous and there was no evidence of any fires on the beach recently. They suggested that I could upgrade my room as that's all they had available and I would be paying full price for the upgrade and, more importantly, it was far away from where my adult kids were. I found management to be not smart and smug. He stood there grinning like a non-caring person. Did he think I was overly dramatic to get a free upgrade? Yuck on him and his arrogance. Fortunately my daughter did not notice the smell as much as I and we traded rooms. It was great to still be together!! The views were amazing! Lots of window coverage. I had an issue at the restaurant and while Jeannie the manager contacted me, a couple days later, I was very frustrated as the meal was 35$ and not good.. lukewarm fish (I microwaved) and what was supposed to be cake... I just wanted an apology and a different piece of cake as I tossed that in the trash. I got the apology a bit late, but there it is... still annoyed I literally threw 15$ in the trash. So upon erasing part of the restaurant review I realized a lot of my complaints was about the condos as well... First off-- ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS VIEW WITH ACCESS TO THE BEACH AND VERY WELL STOcked HOME. I believe the whole problem here is that the hotel manages private homes. If I was a home owner I would find another way if you even have the choice. In their resort, they act like this is a magical land that can't be touched by covid but yet my trash sat (I moved it down in A common hallway) no refreshing of anything and if I needed anything I had to go down to the office. Also for their amenities like the hottub and whatever else they have it is very limited and you must have a reservation. I went down there once but they were dealing with one ken else for the same thing and I decided I'd rather stare at the view that haggle for a few minutes in a hottub once per day... good grief LET ME BE CLEAR HERE. I was informed last Monday that I had been in contact with someone in homer that had covid. I got tested - easily and for free- and I don't believe I got it as I have no symptoms and they should have shown up. I ALWAYS wear a mask at home but the magic got me. If I get a positive result in the next two days I will post it here as that whole place should get tested. Don't be an idiot like me and take your mask off-- I'm traveling solo and would be in quite the bind if I do have it! So please tell me how not grabbing my trash In The hallway and not dropping supplies off for 5 nights instead of one. I sincerely hope no one, including me gets covid here but dammit wear your masks!! (I won't be taking mine off!) Obviously they don't do housekeeping because of covid but yet I have trash downstairs in The little hallway that has sat for 2 or 3 days... I guess I should have taken it to the dumpster myself... I mean, I only paid $400 plus a night). nearly no one wears a mask out of concern for tourists so please keep that in mind.. a few miles away you can get some of the best food Ive had at the mermaid cafe... and when you order chocolate mousse it's AMAZING and looks as it should. This is an establishment that uses covid to give a very low level of service while walking around unmasked and close... this pandemic is still here! But yet, no one replaces items-- you have to go get them.... and you have to have an open credit card. I strongly suggest video taping the place at the start and end of this place (I did) as they are going to charge fees.. (although I ran into the cleaning ladies and I highly doubt the previous statement). it sure feels like it anyway. They have a framed picture in the closet where people might kick off shoes... if a kid didn't notice that and kicked their shoes off the glass could shatter. Million dollar view.... you can find all over the place here... go elsewhere. (Airbnb or save money and use bay view rentals to get the shorebird.... I will try to update that info. and for food- the mermaid cafe was amazing!or even the bagel shop was better) I have a ton of pictures on my iPad. Please do not do what I did, which is know from the beginning that you want to stay at this fabulous place but get worried about a few grumpy reviews on Yelp so you spend hours researching every place else in town only to decide you will risk it ... what a waste of time. This place is great! The staff is friendly and helpful, the views are amazing, and walking on the beach looking at these views is a cleansing experience. We absolutely adored every minute of our stay here and hated to leave. Unless you are a super picky person, or someone who is more concerned with the pattern on your bedspread than the fabulous views out your window, you will probably enjoy your stay too. read more

I have stayed at Lands End for many years. Have had a stressful few months so had one night to drive down and hang out by the beach. Room check is now 5 o'clock. Out at 11. Enjoy your 18 hours! Don't plan on using the hot tub! Advance reservations only...all booked up! You'll find this out AFTER you check in. Need a cup of coffee while waiting two hours for your room? Sorry...coffee shop says it is open 6am-5 pm...BUT NOT today. They "apologize." I feel like room rates should be reduced at least when all services are not available for use. I have mixed feeling about this place. You certainly cannot beat the location. It is literally one of the most breathtaking spots on the planet. At the end of the Homer Spit, surrounded by the Kachemak Bay, mountains, and glaciers, your're sure to see eagles, otters and the occasional seal. In the distance, there's even a volcano. It's a singular view. You definitely want to pay the extra fee for a seaside room. But the hotel is old, and the rooms are showing their wear and given what the cost, even in the off season, you expect better. Thankfully the beds and pillows are comfy, because when the weather is inclement on the spit, you definitely want somewhere cozy to curl up. The bathrooms are frankly kinda bordering on dingy. I was not pleased. Bring your own soaps, dont depend on what they provide or you'll be disappointed. Same for the coffee. We HAD to go find a coffee hut because the in room coffee was undrinkable. Complaints aside, the view makes up for everything, and the restaurant is BOMB. read more

We stayed here in a waterfront room, which was 199/ni in mid April. The view from the room was wonderful and I never got tired from looking outside at the water and sea creatures and birds. The hotel itself has a lot of history and shows its age. Our room was clean and modern but quite small, especially for that price in the low season. There may be an elevator but it was not visible from the lobby and they didn't suggest an option of one to us, so you must carry luggage upstairs if on the second floor. Plenty of parking close to the hotel. Our room was not cleaned the full day we were there, and we never had a do not disturb sign on. I mentioned it to the front desk on our way out at 615pm and they said it would be done tomorrow. Unfortunately they were never able to come back from that since we were leaving tomorrow! I'm glad we stayed here for the view and to Be so close but next time I'm in homer, I'm staying at an Airbnb that will give me a larger view for a lower price. The restaurant food is not good, though view is amazing and my grandparents would have loved it. read more

Fantastic location, just there on Kachemak Bay. We paid $129/night in early May (off season 'cos it's colder than hell), so we were super happy about that. Sweet little nautical-themed rooms (with a hint of SpongeBob). Outdoor hot-tub for your winter enjoyment. Absolutely memorable place to stay ... The only gripes are the service and the food. The staff is uniformly grumpy and can't be troubled. The food is beyond yuck. Even the free continental breakfast is a giant loser. But you will overlook these shortcomings just being happy to be there in fantastic Homer! read more

No guest entry back in from smoking area. Yep, like a quarter mile walk back around the building in the snow! Seriously! Everything else was fine As a local I was hoping to find somewhere to come back to more often. This is it, just hope they put a key card on that door, or at least a warning. It's all about the location. The food is very average. Located at the end of the spit, there are great views from the restaurant. It's fun to spend time looking out over the beautiful water. Our server was very kind and friendly but clearly he wasn't quite comfortable with his job. He was here as a seasonal worker, arriving from another country, and he was working very hard to do a good job but his inexperience showed. Not an important matter to us. I ordered the seafood chowder, tolerable but not exceptional. The texture was thick but not heavy. It was bland, not fishy, but tasting of not much of anything. The pieces of clams were small (my friend said they were chopped) and I don't recall potato in the soup. It worked for me because I wanted a cheaper meal. I'd read the reviews and talked to a person exiting the restaurant who was not at all happy with her meal. I wasn't prepared to spend a lot of money only to be disappointed. My other friend ordered a green salad that looked fresh, made with dark greens. She was very happy with her conventional style salad. The others in my party were not impressed with their meals but didn't have any specific complaints. I think most people will likely find their meal satisfactory if not memorable or impressive. read more
