Pro: this is one of the most gorgeous places to stay in Homer. Pro/Con: it's far away for just about everything. Unfortunately, Homer doesn't have a hostel. This is about as close as you're going to get. We slept in a bed in a room on the first floor of this gigantic house. We arrived late at night. In the morning we walked outside and were stunned by the views! We walked down to the water and were again stunned by the insanely cute/cool cabins. You know the insanely remote, girls-only, tree-house you wanted as a young boy? These kind of fit the bill. I should probably try and stay at them eventually. If you're an uptight travel used to staying in sterile hotels and having your hand-held about every little thing, you should probably check out the Best Western/Holiday Inn/Motel 6 instead. You probably won't like it here. read more

I had a great stay at Seaside Farm! We reserved one of the cabins for the night with a great view of the inlet. Loft sleeping with room for up to six people. Outhouse in the back with all the fixings to make your outdoor visit a little more comfortable (being a NYC girl I did well with this!) For a reasonable option in Homer with a real Alaskan experience Seaside farm is your pick! read more

My boyfriend and I both agreed that the Seaside Farm was our favorite hostel in Alaska. Our room in the lodge was great and Geena, our adorable hostess, was fantastic. It's a very friendly, laid-back atmosphere with a diverse crowd. Families staying in cabins, young backpackers in the bunks, and friendly seasonal workers who would love to show you a good time around town. Plus, the raspberry jam is to-die for! By the way, the older reviews of the crummy bathrooms are totally outdated. We found the place to be in a rustic but great condition, clean bathrooms and all. Thanks for the lovely stay, Seaside! read more

Our last night of camping in Alaska was at Seaside Farms. It was end of season and we were the only campers on the big grassy field. The outhouses were very clean and the communal kitchen was a great plus. We bought fresh Halibut down at the docks and cooked it up back at camp. Oh yeah- free wifi too! read more

From my experience staying at Seaside Farm's "Quarter Deck" room ($65 per night): Pros: - Has a kitchen - Has a shared bath with hot running water - Beautiful views - Fun to walk around and look at the ducklings and chickens - Has eggs (25 cents each) or jam ($5-$10 depending on size) for sale - Rooms dark enough to sleep in during the stay Things that can be improved on: 1. Honoring quiet hours in the house. - In the middle of the night, I'd awoken to hearing running across the top stairs and the manager and a friend chit chatting in the kitchen. 2. Sterilize utensils. - For some reason, every cup and fork and knife I found in the cabinets or out on a table were very dirty. It had old coffee stains or food debris on it. 3. Direct instructions on how to contact management after hours - I had arrived around 10:50 pm, and saw several different signs with different phone numbers to call if no one was in. The directions were really confusing, compounded with the fact that they were missing the area code for the numbers. One sign said to please do not contact after 10 pm... but then what were we to do? I hadn't received any prior instructions on if I arrived after 10 as to what to do, panicked a bit. 4. Wifi is slow 5. Bathroom can be safer - The shower curtain is rather long, and I had fallen quite painfully when I accidentally stepped on it. I'm not sure if management changed, because the manager I had met was so-so compared to "adorable" and "wonderful, welcoming" staff other reviewers mentioned. I had to find the bathroom on my own and try to figure out resources without her prior prompting. Never got to meet the owner, but I did wake up to hearing her argue with the manager about leaving the laundry room door open. If I were you, I would arrive 3pm-10pm. Avoid the room; stay in a cabin, to avoid the noise disturbances. Wash all utensils before you use them, and be mindful of the curtain when you shower. read more

Seaside Farm is a beautiful place with incredible views and wonderful, welcoming staff. While the atmosphere is a 5/5 the room I stayed in was a 3/5 because of the crummy mattress. I should say that I did stay in the hostel portion of the house which is usually less comfortable than the higher priced rooms and cabins so If you are prepared to rough it a bit the low cost and incredible views are worth it! read more

I'm a little hesitant to review Seaside Farms because it is so awesome! Although our cabin was rustic (no running water, electricity or wifi)...we had modern amenities in the nearby lodge. My wife and I rented one of the premium cabins and felt very fortunate for this splurge: the view was quite memorable. The farm raises chickens and sells eggs so I'd encourage you to not buy eggs before arrival. Also---I'd also encourage visitors to read the guestbook to learn about how a pioneering Homer family ultimately created this Jewel of an establishment. read more

Seaside Farm was an interesting lodging experience for my family (4 adults). We stayed in Rose Cottage which was very charming and suited our needs well. We knew we weren't getting the usual motel experience, for example we knew would be using an outhouse and Seaside is a working farm however we were challenged with small things such as not enough toilet paper or Clorox wipes in the outhouse and our water never got turned on (this wasn't a huge deal as we did have a jug full of drinking water but we couldn't wash our dishes so we left things messier than we normally would have). Our beds seemed worn, as we had the "roll to the middle" problem with the double bed. The property is very charming and special. We were not informed of the road construction which added to our travel time to get to anything in Homer. It would have been nice to know. Don went out of his way to welcome us, picking fresh raspberries was great! We never connected with Cindy, the manager, which we would have liked. With all that, it was our most expensive night of lodging with the fewest amenities. Again, we paid for the uniqueness of the experience - we were not driven by amenities. For an individual I can see this being an amazing deal but if your traveling party is 2 or more and you just need a place to lay your head that is close to town, you should look elsewhere. read more

The bunkhouse was very dirty and the owner was rude to her staff. The view an farm is beautiful but the hostel accomodation is disappointing. I can't comment on the private cabins or camping facilities however. read more

This review is specific to the bunk house only. I did not stay in the campground or cabins. I was immediately struck by how odd and impolite the owner was. She also was very abrasive in how she treated her staff. The bunkhouse is dark and dirty. The shower and toilet facilites were filthy. The internet is very inconsistent and slow. The bunks are very old and creak loudly. The place is filled with passive aggressive signs, some of which threaten that if you leave your possessions out, they will be confiscated. However, the view was AMAZING. The property was incredibly charming and you can walk right down to the beach where there are clams and scallops abound. The camping area looked really amazing, save for the outhouse which had a door that wouldn't close. The pavilion and outdoor kitchen seemed nice. read more

What a perfect way to get lost in a town on the verge on nowhere. I love alaska. Here Mossy (owner) and Co.(current help staff) will get you settled in just right. If you need to make a few bucks on your backpacking trek around the world, see if they need some fresh hands around the place. Its communal lodging at its best (a small reimbursment will suffice for what you take) and the paths down to the water are awsome. There are little shacks off of the main house (keep in mind that the shacks only have out houses) but are awsome for the experience. There are animals everywhere, accomodations for tent users (very cheap). Remember you cant get anywhere in Alaska without a car, But this place is less than a five min. drive outside homer... you will love it. If you don't want or have no need to be there in the middle of winter and still want to experience the Northern Lights, go in late summer/early fall to catch a toned down version (not the greatest but still visible). read more

I've only camped there once and then attended a wedding, and ended up camping there but you cannot hel but just love this place! An organic raspberry farm, with free range chickens that give deeeelish eggs, and horses, more horses, cows and a view of Kachemak Bay and the Kenai Mountains to simply die for. The quaint little cabins were adorable, the hostel type rooms cute, and the 'big house' was totally Alaskan-cool! Lying in the grass, in the big meadow where everyone tents it, and hearing the acoustic guitar over by the bonfire, near the beach , stargazing, was about the best most mellow time I'd had in many years. I will go back and maybe this time, stay a month or two. Thinking about heading home real soon, and wonder if they take people in for winter? I wanna go home ... Texas is ok but NOTHING beats Home, Sweet Homer! Check this place out. Go four and half miles out East End Road, from Homer, and then ... SLOW DOWN! Turn right onto the bumpy dirt road that winds down the main area of the Farm, and fidn Mossy or family. You'll be glad you did ... it's almost like you get a feel for the REAL Alaska, the non-touristy Alaska if you stay here. It's all homestyle, Alaskan homestead-style actually. read more

My friend and I stayed in the cute little Wildflower Cabin. It was the perfect spot for us. Just what we were looking for. Great views. Farm living. The cabin had electricity but no running water. The outhouse had an amazing view, making up for the no running water part. I slept in the loft which was accessed by a steep ladder. Worked out fine with the summer midnight sun. I didn't have to navigate in total darkness to the outhouse with a view. :) This place is cute, and quaint, not posh. Just what we were looking for but probably wouldn't be for everyone. For me, it was a favorite. read more

Seaside Farm is a working farm with incredible views and a wonderful, helpful staff. I stayed in the female "dorm" and it was quite comfortable, sheets were an additional $5.00 (reasonable). The hostel is very clean and well organized, very good experience, I would certainly stay there again. read more
