Kim our guide was also very knowledgeable and pointed out various types of fauna and flora along our hike. We were very lucky at the overview and saw 7 bears, including a mother and her cub. Oh my goodness Seawind is the BEST. We came to visit on a cruise and wanted to go on a seaplane adventure. I booked tickets for 6 people about 3 months in advance and Lesley was amazing to work with. She was so kind and answered all of my questions related to the trip and flight. We opted for the 1.5 hour misty fjord flight with a landing in the fjords. At the time the cost was $325/person. I know prices have gone up since I booked. Service was amazing. We were picked up directly at the port and brought to their offices. After our flight, we were shuttles back into town. A 1.5 hour plane ride that is simply unforgettable and breathtaking. Worth every cent. The plane only takes 6 riders plus the pilot so it's not your typical cruise/excursion crush of bodies and confusion. The pilot was very knowledgeable and made the trip a pleasure and Naomi, our driver to and from the plane, was very nice as well. It's only a 5 minute drive from the ship. Don't hesitate! read more

The service, from being picked up downtown to our pilot, was first class! The booking process with Leslie was easy and she was a pleasure to email back and forth with, answering all questions and accommodating us! Checking in once we arrived was easy and everyone was extremely friendly. Steve, our pilot, was great and explained what we were looking out at. The playlist on the headphones was spot on! We traveled from New Hampshire to Ketchikan so that we could spend time in the Misty Fjords and Seawind Aviation absolutely made it worth the trip! On top of being our pilots, Steve and Anthony also served as naturalists and tour guides for the duration of our flight. They pointed out wildlife, waterfalls, a volcanic plug, and everything in between. Back on land, Lesley and Jill were super helpful when it came to sending us off on our flight and receiving us afterwards. Everyone at Seawind was kind, professional, and accommodating. When we return (and we will be back!) we will definitely be contacting Seawind for another trip into the Fjords! read more

They gladly accommodated our needs saving us money on cab fare before our breathtaking flight across Southeast Alaska. I am so glad that we found SeaWind. We opted to book a shore excursion outside the cruise because it was less expensive and offered a better time. The reservation process was very easy, and the confirmation letter included clear instructions where to meet. We called Lesley as soon as we docked, and she called back to confirm our time. It was raining, and the time could have been adjusted due to the weather. Thankfully, the tour was not canceled. We were picked up by their staff and taken to their dock which happens to be near an eagle landing. There were 4 eagles just sitting by the shore. Our tour consisted of 4 passengers and our pilot Steve, the owner. He had 30 years of flying experience all in Ketchikan. I immediately felt like we were in good hands. Take off and landing was smooth. The flight though rainy at times was beautiful. Steve included music in the background and spoke about the topography and animals when appropriate. He said that rain was the best way to see how Misty Fjord got its name. It was beautiful! Sadly the trip ended. Leslie took us back to port and dropped us off where we liked. She also offered a recommendation for a good place to eat. We were happy that we went with this family-run operation. Learning about the area from a true local is the way to go. I know it feels like a risk booking outside the cruise, but these businesses know the cruise schedule as well. Ketchikan is so small too. It would be hard to miss your ship. read more

Definitely the highlight of our trip. My husband, myself and two kids (11, 13) chartered a flight over the Misty Fjords. Leslie was amazing, working around our tight cruise schedule and ensuring the flight would be appropriate for the kids. Steve was our pilot and he did a great job pointing out interesting things. When he spotted a pod of whales he circled overhead so everyone in the plane got an amazing view! We were all able to see the full grown whales as well as the babies with them. We then flew over ice blue lakes, forests and amazing waterfalls. Steve found mountain goats and tried really hard to find a bear. It was early in the season but at least he tried. We flew down low going out and up high coming back so it was a very different view. We all had headphones so we could talk to each other. Pictures are amazing! read more

This was the best excursion my mom and I had taken during our cruise to Alaska!! I'm so happy that it all worked out perfectly. A few weeks before our cruise, I contacted Lesley to ask about their handicap accommodations as my mom had fallen a few years ago which left her with a broken shoulder and hurt foot so it's a bit more difficult for her to get in and out of cars/planes/trains. Lesley assured me that they have ramps to the dock/onto the plane and was confident that my mom would be able to enjoy the flight. She also offered a great deal to my request of an AAA rate so I booked right away for our day in Ketchikan. When we arrived at the cruise port, Lesley picked us up in their van right by the port (no need to have to find our way to their dock). This excursion was a HUGE surprise for my mom's birthday so I never actually let her know what I had planned for us until she saw the seaplane advertised on the side of the van. I knew she would never partake in such an adventurous excursion if I told her ahead of time. By looking at the shocked expression on my mom's face, Lesley was so warm and comforting to my mom's jitters of flying in a seaplane. Even the fellow passengers who would be flying along with us were so nice and friendly -- they tried their best to keep my mom's mind off her nerves Once we got to the dock, we met our awesome pilot Steve who helped my mom into the seaplane with the use of the ramp. Easy peesy! We got to wear these great headsets where we could hear each other ask questions, the pilot provide feedback about what we're seeing, and incredible music that fit the sights (ie. Jurassic Park soundtrack). It really made the entire flight enjoyable. BUT THE VIEWS! They were awe-inspiring and like nothing I've ever seen. We flew throughout a part of the Misty Fjords and even stopped at a lake dock for about 20 mins that had incredible views too. This flight was awesome and an once-in-a-lifetime experience! SO happy my mom got to experience this with me because by the time she got up in the air, her nerves settled and she loved every second of the flight. My float plane trip with Seawind Aviation was definitely an experience of a lifetime! I couldn't think of a better way to enjoy the beauty and grandeur of SE Alaska. I was visiting after the tourist season but Lesley and Steve were very accommodating to make sure I got out on a tour. Lesley was great about staying in touch with me to make sure we could find a time that worked with my travel dates. I would recommend this as a definite "bucket list" item for anyone visiting SE Alaska. I was a bit nervous about going up in a small aircraft but this was one of the smoothest flights I've ever experienced. Steve is an amazing pilot and I'd recommend their tours to anyone! read more

This was the only negative experience on our entire 7 day Alaskan cruise. When we arrived for a flight to the Misty Fjords, we were told that the weather was uncertain (not their fault, right?), but they encouraged us to get in the plane while they confirmed. The plane was cranked up, and the pilot came back and told us he couldn't go there but that he would take us on a beautiful tour of Ketchikan. I wish we had declined. We flew in a big circle around the area for about an hour, and paid $1,200 for the family. There were virtually no photo-worthy sites. Two of the people fell asleep from boredom. When we complained, she did knock off $200, but it's still $1,000 I wish I had back. My advice is that if you can't go to the Fjords, don't get in the plane. read more

This was a definite highlight of my Alaskan cruise last summer. Flying over Misty Fjords was simply spectacular! Our pilot was awesome (I believe it was Steve) and the narration was excellent. We actually landed in a lake and pulled up to a dock where we were able to truly experience the serenity of it all. Absolutely one of my most memorable experiences in Alaska and also some of my best photos. I would highly recommend this excursion to anyone. read more
