I appreciated her thorough analysis of my body from head to toe, and telling me how it effects my walking, etc. She was able to successfully diagnose my issue, and helped me come up with a plan to get better. She was also able to fit me for some custom orthotics. I appreciated that Dr. Alexis really took her time with me as a patient and did not make me feel rushed and was very thorough. Dr. Karmali is the best doctor I've ever had, and I've had great doctors in the past. She made me feel comfortable and relaxed every step of the way, talking me through everything. Dr. Karmali is extremely kind, attentive, gentle, humble, and calming. She went to UW Med School, so extra points for that! Another cool thing is that Swedish uses MyChart, an online personal health record system where you can see your medical history, appointments, messages from your doctor, etc. Strangely, when I called to make an appointment, the receptionist said that Dr. Karmali did not have any openings until January 2015. However, when I went online to MyChart, I saw multiple openings between now and the end of the year. I ended up making an online appointment with Dr. Karmali for early December and cancelling my phone-made appointment with another doctor at Swedish. I am so excited to go see Dr. Karmali again soon!

After my motorcycle accident in 2009 Dr. Karmali checked up on me and worked with my medical records from Harborview to continue with my pain management care. To this day she still works closely with me on this care and has been very good at keeping an eye out for my health and well being and continues to work with my pain management doctor at Harborview. Dr. Karmali set me up with MyChart (available to all Swedish patients) when I moved back to WA and through that I am able to discuss issues with her without having to make an appointment to go into the clinic (I'm already there enough as it is!) and she is quick to get back to me usually same day but definitely within 24 hours. She even responds on her days off and to me, that is complete dedication and proves just how much she cares about her patients. I have recommended her to a couple of friends and they love her as well. Dr. Karmali is very knowledgeable and caring. If she is unsure of something she will investigate the issue to ensure that you get the best possible care. She is just an amazing doctor and an even more amazing person.

I came in to see Pat because I had lingering pain across the entire left side of my torso. Pat has systematically worked his way through several problem areas, but my issue is somewhat like whack-a-mole, every time we make progress on one area a new issue presents itself. That being said, I've gone from being in constant pain to as close to normal as I've felt since November 2019. We've worked through a rib issue, an intercostal chest issue, a neck issue, and recently Pat found that my left lat was also very tight. While I was making good progress, after Pat worked on my lat I felt nearly 100%. Not only is Pat a great PT, I love how personable he is. He's always texting me about my progress and making sure things are going well. Pat is very good at keeping the conversation going and making me feel comfortable. I will continue to see Pat and improve my mobility and general well being.

This is my full update review (I have removed my prior). TL;DR at bottom…read more I saw Doctor Chimes around one year ago for intense hip and back pain. Right away, it was clear he cares more about his personal time than his patients. He told me he wanted yes or no answers and not explanations to his questions (and wouldn't really let me explain things in full even when it would clarify things). After my MRI, which showed multiple spinal issues (bulging, herniated, parse defect, which is a fracture) and bursitis in the hip, he gave me a shot for the bursitis that had already begun healing on its own. During this time, I continually try to tell him the pain is not in the location of the bursitis anymore. He continually ignores or even speaks over me. At the end, I am again trying to tell him I feel pain elsewhere in my hip even though there is a little reduction after the shot (but I was numbed, so of course it would hurt less). To test my pain, he had me stand up from my chair...once. Worse, when we were done and I was alone in the room, when I tried to get up to put my pants on, the pain was so intense I collapsed. This pain happened again when I got home and tried to take one step up the stairs. During our last appointment, instead of listening to me, he tells me "Your pain doesn't match the MRI", and that tells me I'm about to be dismissed, but then it got worse. He continues with, "In his professional opinion, you just need internal pelvic floor PT". Why? Because I'm a woman...and he asked me 2 or 3 YES or NO questions around sex and did not let me explain the answers... I told him I didn't think so, but he disagreed. Well, after speaking with a Pelvic Floor specialist, she disagreed with his assessment. So, instead of doing that, I went to Evergreen Sports and Spine and met with a new doctor who actually took my pain seriously. With his help and a new PT, another MRI of my hip WITH contrast (he was surprised that Dr. Chimes didn't order contrast as it's needed for specific tears in the hip), we found that I had a CAM Morphology, that should have been showing up on my other X-rays and MRIs, but apparently weren't spotted and/or reported...and that I had a tear in the Labrum of my right hip. Later, they also found I had a small pincer as well. So, a double impingement. I had to have surgery because the surgeon I spoke with next agreed that the tear was too large to not do surgery if I wanted to not be in pain. No arguing. No trying to talk me out of it. They immediately agreed it was the best course of action. I had surgery April 2nd of 2024 to remove my CAM and the Pincer they found, and then repair the labrum. While I'm still in recovery, my pain is down 80% of the time outside of flareups when I over exercise during my strength training. I would never send a woman to him, as she will be dismissed. I was in so much pain that I was crying after collapsing at the office during my last visit. The only reason I am giving this location a 2-star is because the women at the front were incredibly nice. This review is leaving out a lot of other smaller issues I had during my short time there. Maybe if you're a man, it'll be worth it, but if you're a woman, go elsewhere. I cannot, in good faith, recommend this office or Dr. Chimes. TL;DR, Dr. Chimes ignored what I said and then gave a sexist course of action due to my gender. New doctor 2 months later discovered the issue and that I needed hip surgery to remove two bone defects and a tear in my labrum. I have now had surgery and am doing well in recovery with a large reduction in pain.

He presented me with options and gave the likelihood of my ailment coming back. We had a medical student shadow for my appointment. I've had appointments where the doctor either lets the med. student take over entirely or ignore that they were even in the room making it awkward for everyone; Dr. Miyano doesn't do this at all. It was a comfortable consultation appointment. I felt guided with direction and empowered with the ability to choose what I wanted to do versus not being given options. I would highly recommend Dr. Miyano just based on one appointment and will write a follow up once I've gotten rid of my cysty wristy.

Island Wellness fortunately accepted my insurance with Premera, so I made an appointment to give it a shot. Though I haven't been in any accidents to require therapy, work-related stress and day-to-day activities caused a lot of tension so it seemed only logical to get a massage before popping lots of ibuprofen. Visai was assigned as my massage therapist and he was great - one key thing to note is that he took into consideration that it had been years since I had a massage, and so being sensitive was critical for my re-introduction back to the massage table. I left feeling relieved, but not sore - just what I wanted. I went in for a second time (this one with more pressure!) and nearly fell asleep during the massage! So relaxing. Now I just need to remember to bring cash for tips on my next visits.

What I am disappointed with is a change in business practice and most major insurance companies (I have Aetna) and Medicare are no longer billed. Patients are expected to pay up front (my recent bill was $250) and submit to insurance for reimbursement. My care plan had graduated to every other week. I can't afford that and they are not willing to work out payment arrangements. (So much for loyalty). Insurance can take months to reimburse an individual. I can appreciate the impact to a business when insurance is slow to pay them but there has to be a middle ground for the patient. I was politely invited to seek care elsewhere if I couldn't pay. Wow! Just be aware the bills are steep and up front payment expected. The therapists are great but billing practice not so good. Also if you expect to speak with a live person it's rare. You usually play phone tag or send a text and hope to hear back. I really wanted to continue here but I'm afraid I probably can't afford it....

Tried to set up PT for hip pain. Had to wait 6 weeks to get in. Before I went I called to question…read morethe costs. Was told it was a small co-pay. I questioned that it was more than that and they asserted that it was not. I went to my first appointment, which was just evaluation with no actual recommendations made. 2 weeks later I get a bill for the full amount as it was not covered by insurance (after I asked twice for an estimation of costs). So, now instead of a $33 payment I'm stuck with $200 cost for absolutely no recommendation of ways to alleviate pain. Do not trust what the front desk tells you regarding cost! If I had known that this would only apply towards deductible and I decided to still move forward. I would have at least set up my first appointment in January and not do one appointment in December and basically flush that $$ away. Very frustrating!
